11/5: Notes from the week

bell on belly 2

[She loves to lay on the belly and feel baby kick]

1. The little lady is a moving machine. She’s been punching and kicking me all day, and when I walk around with my hand on my belly, feeling her move, people will ask “are you ok?” Are you kidding? I love it.

2. I would like to snatch an entire salmon from the sea and eat it raw. It sounds terrible, but I’m just being real here. I’m dying for raw salmon.

3. Heels have officially been put on hold, along with stripes, until post-January. The closest I can get to heels are going to be wedge shoes, since I wore real heels for about an hour today, and it was a little rough to walk. I wore wedges the rest of the day, and now I have no ankles. Propping them up now.

4. The nursery is coming along!! Thanks to a good friend of mine, we may have fixed our glider/recliner situation [I’m sleeping on it tonight before I order it tomorrow- I always do this before big purchases]. I’ll post lots of pics when it’s done and ready for her. When I went to Kelly’s shower today, I was so excited to see her nursery put together, just waiting for her little one (she’s due the week after me)- it looks beautiful. Speaking of Kelly’s shower,

5. I spent most of the shower holding and snuggling different babies while I chatted with the girls. It felt.so.good… and I didn’t feel as awkward or scared like I used to with little babies. Also, why do babies have the best smell in the world?

6. Apparently pregnancy not only makes your belly grow, but makes you taller?

maternity dress

Maternity dresses all go down to mid-calf, or that awkward not-short-not-long length on me :/

The Asics make the outfit, though, right? Haha.

7. It’s interesting to think about how our family dynamic will likely be different for our baby than the one that Tom and I grew up in. My parents are both divorced and remarried, so my brother and I spent different times of each week at my mom’s and dad’s house, splitting holidays and birthdays, and rarely got to be in the same place at the same time with both parents. Tom’s parents were also divorced, so he spent most of his time growing up with his mom and sister. I still had an amazing childhood, and am fortunate that I still got to see both of my parents, but I can’t help but wonder what it would have been like if I didn’t have to be split between the two. Obviously most people don’t ever intend to get divorced, but if the last 6 years are any indication of how strong we are together (we’ve been through a LOT), we’re in it for the long haul.

8. Hayley brought the cutestmostadorableprecious doll for the baby that I’ve ever seen:

ballerina

A ballerina Blabla!

Bella thought it was for her. Sorry, Bell.

All of the dolls are handmade in Peru and are similar to sock monkeys, but they have so many different characters and animals. I had never heard of them before, and I absolutely love it- the fabric is so soft, and the choices for dolls are diverse and fun. If you’re looking for a unique baby gift, these are a win.

9. Just for kicks:

10. Tomorrow is baby shower day. I feel like this is a big milestone in life and am so excited to spend the day with family and friends. Little lady is already very lucky.. she has so many people that love her <3

Oh lord! That video was the most horrible, hilarious thing I’ve ever watched! I felt terrible for laughing so hard!

  3. Jennie (in Wonderland) on November 6, 2011 at 2:01 am

some of those kids seem a bit spoiled, but the little blond pumpkin and the two brothers at the end are beyond adorable. the last line, in particular, is classic. “YOU SNEAKY MOM!!!!!” I literally loled.

  4. meagan on November 6, 2011 at 2:16 am

“What the heck, mom?” Ohhhh my gosh. Tears, tears of laughter.

  5. Amanda on November 6, 2011 at 2:39 am

I hope you have a fun, love-filled shower! Enjoy every moment! You look so beautiful pregnant, and if it’s any indication of what I’ll look like when the time comes, I’m all for it.

Hey Gina, I’ve checked your blog a few times before, but I subscribed to it this week. I hope you have a wonderful time with your friends and family at the baby shower!

You deserve to have an amazing day and I know it will be! It’s one of my fondest memories of my pregnancy, the day of my shower. I never had a bridal shower so my baby shower was big for me 🙂

You look adorable in that dress…the baby bump is too cute!! Along with the tennis shoes 🙂

  10. Emma on November 6, 2011 at 6:04 am

Hope you have a great babyshower! Can’t wait to see the posts about it 🙂

  11. Keelie (SweatEqualsSuccess) on November 6, 2011 at 7:38 am

I hope you have a beautiful shower! I LOVE events like that- or really ANY excuse to get together with all the important people in your life that you don’t get to see often enough!

The Blabla doll is the cooolest thing I’ve ever seen! 🙂

And I definitely have similar thoughts about family dynamics- my parents split when I was 12 (my sisters were 10 and 8) and it was TOUGH… My parents were better off apart but I think back fondly on life pre-divorce- having everyone in the same place is a nice feeling… Judging by what I see on your blog, it seems like you and your dude are in it to win it, though! 🙂

  12. Madeline (Food Fitness & Family) on November 6, 2011 at 7:56 am

    We have a Blabla too!!

Ya heels went by the wayside during pregnancy haha. Have an AMAZING baby shower!

And that video was hilarious – my favorite are the two boys at the end haha

  13. Stephanie on November 6, 2011 at 8:13 am

Hope you have so much fun at your baby shower! I’m sure you’ve read a lot more than I have about dietary restrictions during pregnancy and talked with your doctor, but just wanted to share an interesting article from a few years ago about sushi & pregnancy (in light of your salmon craving lol!): http://www.nytimes.com/2007/07/15/opinion/15shaw.html?ex=1342152000&en=a30c838e3d0bd7f5&ei=5124&partner=permalink&exprod=permalink. Obviously the right level of risk with foods is the one you’re most comfortable with, and like I said I’m not pregnant so I doubt I’ve done as much research as you, but I just thought it was good food for thought!

Also, I’m obsessed with the 2 kids at the end of that video. “2+2 is… 5” “It’s 4.. you were SO close” hahaha

  14. Gina @ Running to the Kitchen on November 6, 2011 at 8:30 am

I hope you have a great shower today 🙂 That video is hysterical. The last kid is my favorite “you sneakkkky mommmm!!” haha

  15. Karen on November 6, 2011 at 9:06 am

I hope you have a wonderful shower today. Mine is next weekend and I can’t wait (less than 8 weeks till my little one arrives). I tried on the same two dresses and they both looked fumpy on me…ha-ha. I can’t hear maternity clothes for some reason. I actually found a cute Merona dress from Target that I can wear now and after the baby is born. Can’t wait to hear about the shower. Have a wonderful day!!

  16. Jackie on November 6, 2011 at 9:09 am

Throughout this entire time following your pregnancy, I have to say, I would be so lucky to look as good as you have pregnant.

When I first read the line about sleeping on the glider/recliner, I thought you were literally going to sleep on it. In my head I thought, “hey, that wouldn’t be that comfortable I don’t think.”….Then I reread it. Haha.

  17. Erin on November 6, 2011 at 9:31 am

I hope you have a fantastic shower!!!

  18. Christie on November 6, 2011 at 9:38 am

I have that dress! I like it but it is a little long on me – past knee length but I made it work 🙂

I loved that video – I can’t wait to do stuff like that to my kids!

    Happy baby shower day!

  19. Amber L on November 6, 2011 at 9:55 am

I love that video. The last two kids cracked me up! That “you sneaky mom!” line – priceless.

  22. Jenn on November 6, 2011 at 10:15 am

My daughter has the Mermaid blabla doll. I was mildly freaked by it at first (I’d never heard of them either), but now I think it’s one of the coolest looking girly touches in her nursery!

    • Fitnessista on November 6, 2011 at 12:41 pm

i love the mermaid one, too!

  23. Fallon on November 6, 2011 at 10:58 am

haha that video was classic!! Good morning laugh.

Can you still wear your Toms? I’d think those be a bit comfortable to still wear? And they are cute still cute!

    • Fitnessista on November 6, 2011 at 12:41 pm

oh yes- i wear mine all the time. i think i need another pair actually…. 😉

  24. Emily on November 6, 2011 at 11:20 am

Have an amazing day! You deserve it, enjoy every second.
And yes, the Asics totally make the dress:)

  25. Maren on November 6, 2011 at 11:29 am

oh my gosh I am literally bawling my eyes out from laughing so hard at that video! The kids at the end were hilarious! “You sneaky mom!!!” 😀 So funny. Hope you have a GREAT baby shower!

Just read the comment above about tom’s… my 3-year-old niece just got these:

That video is hilarious. We were watching it at work the other day. My favorite ones are the little boys at the end for sure! 🙂

  29. Ali on November 6, 2011 at 7:15 pm

Love the runners with the dress. I think you should start a new trend, since heels are so bad for our feet anyway! It is so so true, we always want the thing we cannot have the most! I am sorry you are suffering from lack of salmon so badly. Just think how good it is going to be after the long hiatus! I wish you and Tom all the love and support in the world. I think you are totally right, in it for the long haul. You two are absolutely an inspiration. I can’t wait to read all about this new chapter in your lives!! <3 much love

  30. Meggy on November 6, 2011 at 8:33 pm

I’m at 33 weeks and still rocking the stripes! They probably draw more attention to the belly, but at this point, there is no hiding it! haha. I’ve also had a horrible time finding cute maternity-wear. So have been buying loose cut and stretchy regular-wear!

OMG that video made me laugh so hard!! haha Glad you’re loving all the belly kicks!

  32. Stephanie on November 8, 2011 at 11:04 am

I bought the two dresses in your picture (the one on you and the one hanging up). I might be a little taller because the length is okay for me. I thought they were so cute!!

    • Fitnessista on November 8, 2011 at 11:05 am

they were super cute, the length was just awkward on me :/
