1/18: Meals, fitness, 7 days down

Hi! Happy Sunday! Hope you’re enjoying the weekend!

Datbeachtho

We are officially 7 days down for our little detox. The verdict so far: we both feel amazing. While we already know which staples will eagerly welcomed back into the rotation (cough wine cough dessert), we both feel great after this little reboot. We’ve been focusing on fresh produce, protein, fruit, and natural sweeteners (dates, banana, a little honey or maple syrup) and it’s been nice to get back to basics. I’ve been keeping track of everything so I can post all of the details when we’re finished.

Pancakes 1 of 1 8

(Banana-egg-oat-flax pancakes with almond butter and maple syrup)

Here’s what I’m looking at for plan, prep and dinners this week:

Dinners

Almond, berry and chicken spinach salad

Chicken sweet potato burgers (from the book!) with sweet potato fries and roasted broccoli

Chicken coconut curry with quinoa

Paleo crab cakes with salad

Prep:

Make Paleo bread (the Pilot is obsessed, and I’m so glad he likes it)

Chop veggies

Make veggie dip (done!)

Paleo granola (also from the book. My fave!)

Bliss balls

Granola 1 of 1 2

Fitness plan:

Sunday: OFF

Monday: Teach BODYPUMP + Spin

Tuesday: Flamenco + Barre date with Jess

Wednesday: Teach Zumba

Thursday: OFF

Friday: Strength and cardio

Saturday: Pure cardio

I’ve got some fun (and possibly COLD) workouts on the agenda for the upcoming weekend. 😉

What’s on your food and fitness plan? Any new workout classes or events on the horizon?

xoxo

Gina

You’re an inspiration! Great work with the detox 🙂

All your meals look so delicious and healthy! I’ll have to try some of them especially since you make it look so easy 🙂 Enjoy the end of your weekend!

    Hi Gina,

    Sounds like yummy meals!

I know this isn’t related, but I Just watched American Sniper this afternoon and I thought of you and your family. Thank you for the sacrifices you make daily to be in the military. It isn’t easy doing what you do, and I am thankful for the freedoms we have here. Have a safe week and enjoy your family as we are in TX. 🙂

Having a come to jesus moment and getting myself back on track this week. An old bridesmaid dress is a little too tight and it really bummed me out. I’ll try to use it as motivation to snack less and try new workouts. <3

Can’t wait to hear all about this detox! So cool that you and the pilot are doing it together!

Hi Gina! I think it’s awesome you guys have been doing this detox together, sure makes it better to have a teammate. Maybe my hubby and I will do one soon? I don’t know … we have so many restaurants in San Francisco, it would be hard to stay away from those for any amount of time hehee. Anyways, this week I’m hoping to try a new yoga class at least, as well as teach a few classes and do my own workouts. Have a great evening! 🙂

That chicken berry almond salad looks amaze!!! Just curious for your pure cardio day–what do you normally do? Do you plan on running or spinning? Also I wanted to ask you–I know you did pin-up glamour shots a while ago and I’ve been hankering to do it forever. Just for fun! I was wondering if you could share me what the experience was like and if it was worth it. The studios here in Chicago charge around $275 for calendar prints etc.. So I want to be sure it’s something I’d enjoy. I already have a theme and an idea in my head with music and everything. Were you able to have your shoot with music? I feel like that would help me get “into character” if you know what I mean. Also–did you get to pick out clothes yourself or did you use what they had? Just wondering if you could share some thoughts on it because yours came out so cute. Your hair was insane! So gorgeous!
    XOXO

usually i teach zumba, but this week will be a little different 🙂
i did do the pinup shots, and had a blast. it was expensive, but i was glad i did it! she played vintage movies which was a lot of fun. all of the clothes and makeup were from the studio and they did my hair, too. thank you! i wish i could wear it like that all the time!

Hi Gina! Looks like some tasty meals and snacks for the week. I always like to have an almond flour bread or muffin on hand too. Look forward to hearing your thoughts on the detox. Have a great night!

I’m thrilles to hear your experience! I did a detox for a month in October and looking back wished I had documented it better for others. I’d like to doing again, but I just like my healthy muffins!

About halfway through my Whole30 and going strong! I’m looking forward to trying some new recipes this week. I just bought the Against All Grain Cookbook and I’m going to try the Korean “Noodle” Bowl (with zucchini as the noodles) and the Indian Spiced Pork Loin. I’m also making this Paleo chili! http://paleonewbie.com/paleo-crockpot-chili-recipe/

Sounds live a great challenge so far! I can’t wait to hear more!

  16. Amanda on January 19, 2015 at 6:55 am

What a great challenge! I’m focusing on cutting out sugar right now, but I’m also considering starting a Whole30 in the next few weeks.

My friend gave me the same mug for Christmas this year (but with an ‘A’ of course). I’m obsessed with it!

  17. Alex @ True Femme on January 19, 2015 at 10:20 am

I’ve been incorporating a few HIIT workouts into my routine over the past few weeks (from your book) and it is SO much fun!! Okay, so fun isn’t the best word because I’m sore a lot more than I usually am, but I feel mentally stronger and I’m excited to keep building up my endurance and feel physically stronger!

    • Fitnessista on January 19, 2015 at 2:11 pm

      so so awesome 🙂

  18. Nicole @ Runs & WODs on January 19, 2015 at 5:53 pm

  19. Lucie@FitSwissChick on January 20, 2015 at 2:44 am

I ‘ve been eating a lot cleaner since the beginning of the year and it feels so good!
Is the hashtag eatlikeaPRO still a thing by the way?

  20. Lori on January 20, 2015 at 6:38 pm

Hi Gina! I can’t wait for you to post the details of your detox! I want to try it too. I think the hardest part would be the lack of coffee for me. It’s my quiet time ritual in the early morning! Even black coffee is out?:)

  21. Emily on April 13, 2015 at 8:32 pm

    Hey Gina,

I recently made the Paleo bread you linked in your site, but I am wondering if you refrigerate it or leave it out. I have left it out and it has been fine so far, but I know with breads w/or preservatives, sometimes you refrigerate them.

Also, I just want to say that I love how down-to-earth you are about everything. Some fitness bloggers stress me out so I can’t read them. Yours doesn’t, so thank you!!

    • Fitnessista on April 14, 2015 at 8:38 am

yes, i keep it in the fridge! it’s great for about 5 days (and is usually gone by then haha)
thank you so much, and thank you for reading <3 xo!
