1/6: Meals and Fitness for the week

Hi friends 🙂 Sorry for the blog silence yesterday! The only thing I had to write about was my legendary headache. I even took a few Tylenol, which is a testament to how bad it was.. usually I’ll just deal with it. When I got home for the day, some snuggles and giggles made it all much better 😉

Me and liv after work

Let’s see… what else happened this weekend?

The Pilot took Liv to her baby class while I was at work:

Mygym

We had her first birthday photos taken -watching her smash the cupcake was my favorite thing ever

We went to friends’ house on Friday night. I’m not sure how/why she hasn’t tried it yet, but it was Liv’s first time having pizza. She loved it! Pizza Friday may need to become a regular thing

aaaaand we had a date night! We were trying to decide between Life of Pi and This is 40, but decided to rent the latter.

Popcorn2

Life of Pi was in real 3D, and the cinematography was reason enough to see it in theaters- it was truly exquisite to watch. I hadn’t read the book, but found it to be an amazing story about man’s ability to survive and the animalistic nature of humans.

The movie does have religious themes in it, and while I try to keep my blog as religious as I do political (which is not at all), it gave us a lot to talk about on the drive home.

My date:

Movie

Here’s what this week’s tentative fitness plan looks like:

Sunday: Runday

Monday: OFF

Tuesday: HIIT and Strength (testing out Winter Shape Up workout 1)

Wednesday: Teach Zumba

Thursday: Teach Buff Booty and Glide

Friday: OFF

Saturday: Power yoga

As far as eats go, sugar detox is officially over:

Moose munch 1 of 1

(white chocolate moose munch)

I feel like this past week was a good kickstart back into my normal eats, instead of the holiday variety which included a cookie or two after every meal. The fact that I made the detox on my own terms (wine, chocolate and goat cheese everyday), it wasn’t too big of a deal. It feels nice to be back to normal-ish, though 🙂

Bfast 1 of 1 4

(Coffee and a jar of bfast cookie dough cereal to take to work)

Meal ideas:

Kale frittata with millet crust

-Liv’s birthday dinner: order pizzas and make cupcakes

-Slow cooker chicken tortilla soup

-BBQ pulled pork (for the Pilot), chicken, quinoa lentil salad

-Prep: amazeballs, chop veggies, make Liv’s pancakes and turkey muffins, maybe try this Paleo bread

Going to enjoy a lazy Sunday morning and then see where the day takes us.
Hope you’re having a wonderful weekend!
xoxo

I enjoy this workout and wrote it down to take with me this week to the gym! Thanks for the awesome countdown workout , I LOVE these! I felt the same way, it really is difficult to get 100% on track right after indulging in wine and cookies for a week so as I slowly enjoyed my last cookie a few days ago and sipped the last drip of my champagne yesterday, I am ready for a CLEAN slate 🙂 Have an amazing week! Love + Shine CourtStar

Yum! Cookie dough cereal – how?!

  3. Lisa on January 6, 2013 at 11:50 am

Glad you’re feeling better now! Oh, I can’t wait to see Life Of Pi, but I’m betting it does’t compare to the book, because what ever does?! I’ve got to try that Chicken tortilla soup! Thanks for the idea.

I loved the 12 Days of Fitness! I looked forward to doing it everyday. In matter of fact, I’m off to complete day 12 right now 😉

I was debating over if I wanted to see life of pi or not. I couldn’t decide if I would like it, but now I think I’ll check it out.

Ugh! A headache all day? Hope you’re feeling much better today:)

Me and my hubs have a couch movie date in store for tonight. We’re gonna watch Bridesmaids. We’ve seen it before but it makes me laugh every time. So vulgar but so freakin hilarious!

I have a question that I hope you can help me with. I am needing some protein powder and I’m not sure which ones are good for me or bad. I usually get SW when it’s on sale through Open Sky but I missed out last time. I was just gonna roll with some from the store for now. Do you recommend a particular brand/kind? Or can you at least tell me what to look for that’s in it or should not be in it?

That first picture melts my heart! I feel much better too after not having my daily dose of Christmas cookies! But, dark chocolate and vino never left my diet 🙂

I’m surprised how much I enjoyed the 12 Days of Fitness. I was doing it each morning as soon as I got out of bed and loved how it gave me some extra oomph. I used to workout in the mornings but got lazy. Ill have to make this a habit again. Thanks!

Hi there! My sister introduced me to your blog because we were pregnant at the same time. I have an 11 month old girl and it has been fun to read about some of your similar experiences! Ashamed to admit, but I am not one to exercise much ( I leave that to my sister : ) ), but am needing
to to get rid of this baby belly fat!! Any suggestions? I have been doing planks and they seem to help.

    Thanks!
    Jeanie

Headaches suck but thank goodness for tylenol.

The Life of Pi sounds phenomena! Good to know you liked it! Guess that’ll be next up on the list!

  11. lucie on January 6, 2013 at 2:20 pm

I love that pic of you and Liv! And the 3D glasses crack me up. I wanted to post a pic pf my man with them too, but he wouldn’t let me 🙂 I saw Life of Pi too and it gives quite some stuff to think about, I didn’t read the book either. I got a bit inpatient in the end though, I thought it was a bit drawn-out. I did the 12 days of fitness challenge and I loved it!! The 12 sumo burpees were killing 🙂

  12. Liz @ Tip Top Shape on January 6, 2013 at 2:42 pm

It’s really difficult to return to normal eating after the holidays. A mini-detox like that is a great idea! By the way, I love that Moulin Rouge cup! Super cute!!

  13. Katie on January 6, 2013 at 3:41 pm

I had to start over on the workouts – I caught the flu, ugh! Just re-finished day two 🙂

  14. Danica @ It's Progression on January 6, 2013 at 4:17 pm

I’ve heard so many good things about Life of Pi…I really want to see it now–I love when a movie brings up discussions like that.

  15. Kim on January 6, 2013 at 4:34 pm

Loved the 12 Days of Fitness!! Since today was the last day, I made it my work-out and did it 5x back to back – great circuit!!!

  16. Rachel on January 6, 2013 at 4:57 pm

The challenge went well. It was super easy to fit those extra exercises in during randomly daily free time. Very convenient!

  17. Leah O on January 6, 2013 at 5:10 pm

The 12 days have been so great! I have noticed such an improvement in my plank doing it for a minute every day. I’m excited to continue doing it every day and up my time by a little bit every week. I definitely feel stronger than when I started! Thanks Gina!

  18. LisaG on January 6, 2013 at 5:39 pm

Can’t believe Liv is almost one. She’s precious!
Thanks for the link to chicken tortilla soup; bought ingredients today!

  19. Laura B on January 6, 2013 at 5:42 pm

Trying out the slow cooker soup tonight! Thanks to you, we are doing a sort of detox over here too, but I guess it’s sort of like getting back to normal. Between my pregnancy and the holidays, we were being way too lenient with our diets. So we’re done with all the snack foods we were consuming and back to nuts and veggies and other healthy things for snacks. Back to just having chocolate and fruit for dessert and are saving other things for truly special times. I’m 6 weeks post partum so I’m just starting back up at the gym (very slowly) but I cannot wait to do some of your workouts when I’m bit more recovered!

Oh, and movie nights are extra fun and such a special treat once you have kids! Glad you had a fun date.

  20. Amelia on January 6, 2013 at 6:06 pm

Just threw that bread that you linked to above in my oven. Here’s to hoping it comes out just as good as it looks. I’m hoping for something quick to add to my morning routine this week and I bet it will be delicious topped with sliced banana, chia, and homemade raspberry jam!

Sorry about your headache funk. I’ve been in a cloud over here all day as its raining and gloomy. Getting dark early doesn’t help any either. 🙁

    • Fitnessista on January 6, 2013 at 6:19 pm

let me know how it turns out- i’m so excited to make it!
thank you- hope you feel better too <3

      • Amelia on January 7, 2013 at 7:06 am

I tweeted about it @i_heart_kale. Mine ended up taking 85 min to bake, but worth it!!! So good!

        • Fitnessista on January 7, 2013 at 11:00 am

it came out AMAZINGLY. i need to make some now for sure

  28. cassi on January 7, 2013 at 9:46 am

i just tried the cookie dough cereal for bfast. Wow, so good!!! I would never have thought of doing that on my own. 🙂

    • Fitnessista on January 7, 2013 at 10:59 am

      so glad you liked it!

      • Cassi on January 7, 2013 at 9:59 pm

Did you use rolled oats or instant quick oats? I just realized your photo for the regular version(not raw) looked like the quick oats not whole rolled oats. Unless pic it just looks that way

        • Fitnessista on January 8, 2013 at 12:07 pm

i’ve done it with both- and both turn out great 🙂
