20 Week Update

The baby is the size of a small cantaloupe right now! Cuhrazy.

It blows my mind that I’m halfway through the pregnancy!

That little lady is growing quickly, and I hope she continues to grow strong and healthy.

I’m pretty sure there’s no denying the belly now, too.

[I think I say that every time I post an update. haha]

but not quite from the side.

20week (4)

Having a sizeable, obvious baby belly has been good for many things:

1) Scratching. It itches!! I also like to rub it… all the time. Before I was pregnant, I wondered why pregnant women always had to be rubbing and touching their bellies. Now, I 100% understand. At any time of the day, you can find me scratching, rubbing, talking or singing to my belly 😉 I love that my amazing husband loves talking to the belly and rubbing it, too. I woke up in the middle of the night the other night, and he was rubbing my belly, half asleep. <3

2) Getting me busted for dipping into the almond butter jar.

shirt

“What’s on your shirt?”

Oops.

3) Sweet words of kindness and horror stories from random strangers. I’ve gotten to the point where I only listen to the good things and kind of block out the rest. Positive thinking leads to positive results, right?

One lady, whom I admire greatly (and is a rockstar mom), told me last night “Don’t listen to all of the negative things people will tell you. I always had this feeling that I was destined to be a mom, and I love it more than anything in the world.” These are the kinds of things I love to hear <3

4) Little kicks and bubbles that make my heart go into swoon overload. After I eat, I love to go lay on my side (the only time I like to lay on my side) and feel her move around. There isn’t a ton of movement yet, but enough to make me extremely excited.

Notes from this week:

-My hips have never hurt like this in my life. Yesterday, they were miserable. The Snoogle has helped, but I’m way overdue for an acupuncture appointment.

-Other than the hip thing, all in all, I feel pretty fantastic. My energy levels are pretty normal until the end of the day, and around 9pm, I’m DONE. I’ll disappear shortly after dinner to go upstairs and get ready for bed.. that is, if I don’t fall asleep with Bella on the couch.

-My workouts have still been pretty “pregnancy normal” (normal with some modifications)- cardio almost every day, weights 2-3x a week, slacking on yoga but am committed to get back into it when we get back from Philly. If you guys would like, I can post some of the changes I’ve made, especially since back and stomach exercises are discouraged after the first trimester.

-I broke a bra last week.. while I was wearing it. Thank goodness I was in the mall when it happened, about 50 ft from Victoria’s Secret. I bought one new one, in my new size, but am not sure how many I want to invest in, because it seems like things are always changing over here. How does pregnancy bra shopping work??

-Weight gained thus far: 12 lbs

Cravings:

-Fruit, smoothies, gluten-free pizza, beastly salads, fruit/veggie juice, shrimp, blocks of goat cheese and kind of random.. I’ve been wondering for about 3 days if they make gluten-free strawberry poptarts. I’ve had poptarts on the brain!

Fun baby purchases:

-Besides the goodies I showed ya last week when we announced it’s a girl, we’ve also ordered the nursery bedding.

Thanks for sticking with me over here on the Family page for the past 20 or so weeks 🙂 I’ve loved being able to blog about and share this adventure…about 20 more weeks and we’ll get to meet the little lady <3

  4. Lindsay@LivingLindsay on August 17, 2011 at 7:40 pm

So excited for you!!! You look fabulous and the nursery bedding is so pretty!! We had the most adorable nursery for our son. He’s 3 now and still hasn’t ever slept in there. haha 🙂 He had really awful reflux when he was little and had to be held upright to sleep. Needless to say, that turned into cosleeping. We bought a snuggle nest (ever seen those?) that went right between my hubby and I. Once he outgrew that, he stayed in the bed with us. It just felt right and still does. We are just about to buy him big boy furniture and need to make that transition. it will be hard, but it’s the right time. 🙂 Again – so happy to follow along on this exciting journey with you!

  5. Ashley on August 17, 2011 at 7:42 pm

  8. Danielle (Shrinking and Studying) on August 17, 2011 at 7:44 pm

It’s probably just the pictures, but it is SO obvious in them that you are pregnant from the side, but from the front you can barely tell. 😉 I LOVE the bedding! She is going to be one pampered little cantaloupe. xoxo

  9. Heather on August 17, 2011 at 7:44 pm

    so ah-doh-rah-blay! 🙂
one of the best things i liked about my obvious baby bump was not having to suck in my gut when i was bloated from eating! lol!

    • Fitnessista on August 17, 2011 at 7:52 pm

hahah exactly! it just sticks out a couple of inches farther

  10. Kris | iheartwellness.com on August 17, 2011 at 7:46 pm

The bedding is to die for…so stinking cute…and trendy 😉

    xxoo

  11. Jena on August 17, 2011 at 7:46 pm

lol you should totally challenge Angela from OhSheGlows to make vegan gluten free poptarts. It totally sounds like something you’d see on her site.
In fact, she might have made something similar with strawberries in oatmeal in square format?

    • Fitnessista on August 17, 2011 at 7:52 pm

i think you’re right… i need to check her recipes and see

  12. Heather Eats Almond Butter on August 17, 2011 at 7:47 pm

Hilarious. I craved Pop-Tarts like mad my first trimester. Literally, some days the only thing I could eat was a cherry or brown sugar frosted Pop-Tart. Had to be toasted. Had to be Kellogg’s. Had to be frosted. Haven’t touched them since. A reader was kind enough to send me her homemade version along with the recipe. They were delicious, and I’ve been wanting to try them using a gluten free flour – maybe almond? She used whole wheat. Let me know if you’d like the recipe.

You’re glowing and gorgeous, almond butter splatters and all, and yes, I can still totally see your ab muscles! 🙂

    • Fitnessista on August 17, 2011 at 7:51 pm

i would love the recipe- thank you friend!
hope i get to see you this winter <3

  16. Sarah on August 17, 2011 at 7:49 pm

  17. Jen on August 17, 2011 at 7:49 pm

Thank YOU for sharing! I look forward to your family posts (and all your blog posts in general!) You look great. I can’t believe you are already 20 weeks!

I am so thankful for your ‘How I Got Pregnant’ post. I bought and read both the books you suggested and am so grateful to have this wonderful information before TTC. I started tracking my cycles and have already learned so much. I feel a hundred times more prepared. Thank you!!

    • Fitnessista on August 17, 2011 at 7:51 pm

      that makes me so happy!

  18. Hillary on August 17, 2011 at 7:50 pm

Gina, you look fantastic. For real.

And your husband is making ME swoon. Again, for real.

  19. Ashley on August 17, 2011 at 7:51 pm

You can for sure see your abs!!! That is pretty cool…probably a sign they will go right back to normal! All you preggo bloggers are just way way too cute. Still need to find a good recipe for gf pizza dough or place to buy it from. Not sure about the poptarts, but I’ve wanted to make GF poptarts lately actually. I might just have to give it a go! 🙂

    • Fitnessista on August 17, 2011 at 7:55 pm

      i hope so!!
if you do- you have a taste tester over here 😉

  22. Kristin on August 17, 2011 at 7:55 pm

Oh PLEASE post the modifications you are making for back and stomach exercises. I’m just about to enter my 2nd trimester and am wondering how I can do some of my favorite exercises! LOVE the bedding by the way!

  23. Laura @ Meet Virginia on August 17, 2011 at 7:55 pm

You look amazing! I love the bedding, it totally reminds me of you! 🙂

  24. Ashley H. on August 17, 2011 at 7:57 pm

I would love if you would do a post on what you are doing for exercise while pregnant. Just purchased physique 57 and it’s a killer!! We are currently TTC and would love suggestions on exercises to continue doing while pregnant.

  25. Nicole on August 17, 2011 at 7:59 pm

Ha! The almond butter “incident” picture was priceless!! Love!

  26. Elizabeth on August 17, 2011 at 7:59 pm

That bedding is SO cute. I absolutely love it; if I hadn’t just gotten a new bedding set for myself, I would look into it. And she can keep on using it for a while because it’s girly without being overly cutesy/babyish. You have great taste.

  27. Jessica @ Sushi and Sit-Ups on August 17, 2011 at 8:07 pm

You’re looking great–baby bump abs and all!

  28. Felicia (Natural + Balanced) on August 17, 2011 at 8:08 pm

i loveee these posts 🙂 i can not believe you are at 20 weeks already!!

  29. Sara on August 17, 2011 at 8:10 pm

I’ve got to say, I didn’t know what a pop-tart was and had to Google it. A pastry that you put in the toaster??? Is nothing sacred?? If those ever arrive in NZ, I’ll petition the government to get them banned 😀

    • Fitnessista on August 17, 2011 at 8:11 pm

hahah. i grew up on poptarts 😉

    • Tracy on August 18, 2011 at 6:38 am

We used to have pop tarts in NZ, Sara. I remember them being pretty gross though. Haven’t seen them for years so I don’t think we can get them anymore.

  30. Abby @ Abz 'n' Oats on August 17, 2011 at 8:10 pm

I loved the part about the Pilot rubbing your belly while he was sleeping. That is like the cutest thing ever! 🙂 You look great!

  31. Madeline (Food Fitness & Family) on August 17, 2011 at 8:12 pm

    You look fantastic!

As far as bras go … I haven’t really invested in many new bras because I am about to go pick up my nursing bras. Those are the ones I want to spend the $$ on since I will (hopefully) be wearing them for the next year while nursing.

Enjoy your energy now – I am 32 weeks now and feel like I am back in my 1st trimester again 🙁 I miss my 2nd now! Haha. And as for belly itching – mine itches ALL the time. I guess it is from the stretching? The only thing I have been able to see that helps is keeping it well moisturized!

  32. Shayla @ The Good Life on August 17, 2011 at 8:15 pm

You look absolutely beautiful Gina, and you can definitely still see your abs! 🙂

I have really loved all your pregnancy posts and I’m so thankful to have them and read your experiences so that I have a better idea on how to prepare myself since we’re currently trying to conceive, thank you! 🙂

  33. Sarah on August 17, 2011 at 8:18 pm

You look so cute! I love that bedding! Laughing at the almond butter incident. All my maternity shirts had stains on the belly or I always had drips from my water bottle!

  34. Katelyn @ Chef Katelyn on August 17, 2011 at 8:21 pm

GOAT CHEEESEE!! Don’t worry i’ve been craving it too 😉

  35. Jennie in Wonderland on August 17, 2011 at 8:24 pm

Ok, you have to be the prettiest soon-to-be-mama out there. And nice abbies!

PS: The almond butter blob made me giggle.

  36. Nicole on August 17, 2011 at 8:26 pm

Too funny, I craved poptarts and peanut butter. I don’t like either regularly but I ate a ton of both. My 15 mo old daughters nickname is actually peanut butter.

I don’t know how you feel about them (people either love or hate) but I went to the chiropractor when I was pregnant for my hips. Oh, my poor hips kept me up at night until I went. It was amazing and so helpful. Just check to see if they are a certified prenatal chiropractic practice.

  37. Leanne (Bride to Mrs.) on August 17, 2011 at 8:27 pm

Thank YOU for blogging about your pregnancy for the last 20 weeks. I already loved your blog before you were pregnant, but the family posts are some of my favorite posts you do. You are such a wonderful person and your positive outlook on life really inspires me.

Keep doing what you’re doing! 🙂

  38. Lauren on August 17, 2011 at 8:33 pm

is it normal to be jealous of an unborn baby? because that bedding is GORGEOUS!

  39. Marguerite Miller on August 17, 2011 at 8:36 pm

Love how the ultrasound pic looks like she is saluting! You look great Gina!

  40. Jenn on August 17, 2011 at 8:47 pm

I would love to read some of your modifications. I have read about how to modify for my pregnant participants but I’d like to hear what works for you, and how to still give girls a good and safe workout. Since I haven’t been in their/your shoes it’d be good to get it from the source!

  41. April on August 17, 2011 at 8:53 pm

I seriously LIVED on PopTarts during my second pregnancy! Not sure what it was, but i craved them all the time! I kept having to buy them in bulk from the warehouse store. LOL I think part of it in the early first tri was that I was so nauseous and NOTHING appealed to me to eat…except PopTarts. 🙂

  42. Pam Rich on August 17, 2011 at 8:55 pm

You look incredible. I love the family posts- keep them coming! 🙂

  43. Karen on August 17, 2011 at 8:58 pm

Oh I loved seeing the perspective of you looking down at your baby belly. I don’t think I have ever seen a shot like that- very neat! (obviously I have never been preggers)

you’ll have to update it when you can’t see your toes anymore, lol!

  44. Krystina (Organically Me) on August 17, 2011 at 8:59 pm

You’re one of the cutest pregnant women I’ve ever seen. 🙂

I feel like I’m destined to be a mom, too. I think this factoid scares my boyfriend to near death.

  45. Emily on August 17, 2011 at 9:02 pm

try getting a nursing bra and an extender, that way you can use it now, have some room to grow and when you start to lose the pregnancy inches afterwards (but not the boobs if you nurse!) you can get rid of the extender and have a bra you’ll use for a long time!

  46. Jes Suazo on August 17, 2011 at 9:05 pm

Congratulations on the baby! You look fantastic. Being a mom is one of the greatest treasures.

  49. mi-an on August 17, 2011 at 9:16 pm

    LOOOOVE the bedding!! :))
i read this other blog, The Daily Garnish, she too is pregnant and her pregnancy updates are compared with veggies/fruits for comparison. It’s pretty cute. Healthy bloggers are the cutest preggo women… :))

  50. Ky G on August 17, 2011 at 9:17 pm

This is all so awesome and thank YOU for sharing. I’m about 7 weeks behind you with my 1st as well so it’s definitely been fun and interesting to read about what’s to come.
