Me + Bridget Jones + 100 calorie kettlecorn = one riveting Valdosta Saturday night.
The hubby Pilot is currently TDY in Tampa and I’m here with the puppies for a few days until I escape to glorious Orlando. I’m pretty excited about working on the blog and getting some good recipes, workouts and info out for everyone! Please let me know what ya’ll think or if there’s anything you’d like to know. I’m going to try to update a few times a day and I would love to answer any workout or nutritional questions you may have.
First things first: I DO NOT BELIEVE IN DIETING.
There is no reason to deprive your body of food and make anything “forbidden”. Our attitudes toward food are so skewed these days due to the quality of food (additives, preservatives, unnessessary sugar) and epic serving proportions. I believe that if we take the time to listen to our bodies and feed them healthy food that will enable them to thrive, rather than junk food that will hinder us, then we would all be in a much better place. Sometimes, my body tells me it needs a little chocolate! I eat it, enjoy every single bite, and move on.
Here are some of the best foods that we can give our bodies.
These will enable us to perform at our maximum ability, give us energy and satisfy us:
1. Fruits and Veggies (of course)
2. Whole grains, especially brown rice, quinoa, barley, bulgar wheat and oatmeal
3. Lean white meats and fish: boneless, skinless chicken breast, turkey, salmon, tilapia, mahi mahi, shrimp, pork tenderloin, lean all white meat ground turkey
4. Other Proteins: beans and legumes, eggs, tofu, tempeh, fat free milk (I prefer organic), 1% cottage cheese, Fat free or Reduced Fat Cheese, all natural no salt added Peanut Butter (my cryptonite- I LIVE for the peanut butter at Fresh Market that you grind yourself! mmmmmm)
5. Starches: Sweet potatoes, 100% whole wheat bread products (pita, tortillas, crackers– just make sure whole wheat flour is the first ingredient)
6. In moderation: SWEETS! Everyone has a sweet tooth…unless you’re crazy… and mine gets kickin sometimes. I usually try to have a treat meal once a week- if I want a huge brownie, slice of cheesecake, ice cream, whatever, I’ll eat it and truly enjoy it. I usually feel insanely sick the next day from all the sugar, which usually doesn’t make me want something sweet for about another week. If I do crave something before then, I’ll have some dark chocolate. What an amazing creation: it tastes incredible and has so many antioxidants. Just make sure it’s 70% cacao or more. Speaking of antioxidants…
7. WINE: I love wine. I adore wine. I just try not to drink too much wine, because then my waist starts to resemble a trucker’s. I try to have less than 3 drinks a week. A little tip: mix wine with club soda or tonic. It can take a 150 calorie glass of Cab Sauv down to 75. Not too shabby.
Well, I’m off for tonight. Starting tomorrow, I’ll post pics of some meal ideas and when the hubby comes home I’ll post the recipes I use for dinner each night– we’ve been married almost a year and I haven’t made the same thing twice
Have a great night!

I love going back and reading blogger’s first posts! Yours is great – particularly this quote, “I adore wine. I just try not to drink too much wine, because then my waist starts to resemble a trucker’s.”
xoxo

Wow…just now checking out your earlier posts. Your blog has come a LONG way! Gimme some advice!
I’m checking the earlier posts too! Fun stuff! May take me a few days, but I’ll work my way through.
But now it’s Almond Butter rather than Peanut butter right?
I bought my first jar of almond butter but am afraid to taste it! I’m a big wimp for trying new things
I do love natural peanut butter though!
once you go almond, you never go back
Now it’s all about sunflower seed butter. mmmmm.
I love reading blogger’s first posts! I’ve been reading yours for about a year now and am finally commenting more! Especially on your family posts b/c hubby and I want to start trying soon…waiting for my cycle to get it’s act together
And I just started a blog so I love seeing and reading how you started…it’s kinda hard when you get no comments and you see so many bloggers like yourself who have an amazing following…but you gotta start from somewhere, right? I’m just happy to have found a hobby I’m really loving and it’s great to be part of such a great community
youre totally right- just stick with it
congrats on your blog and thank you so much for reading <3
let me know when you have a bun in the oven!

Apparently I’m not as original as I thought haha. Glad to know others like to go back to a bloggers first post :]
I L-O-V-E your blog! I discovered it through a high school girlfriend of mine. I’ve recently been putting in a really strong effort to try and really lock down healthy and efficient eating and your blog provides my inspiration every single day! It’s been great to read about all your different recipes and even use them to inspire some of my own! As already stated, I’m obviously not the first one with the genius idea to start from the beginning with your postings. But I am very excited to read about your progress and use some of your advice and guidance to help me. Thanks for all the info and inspiration!
aww, thank you so much! i’m so glad you’re enjoying it so far <3
take care and best of luck to you! hope to see you around here more often
I’m just like the other readers, coming back to read your first post, and go from there
I have been reading your blog for several months, have picked up a couple of new habits, and am looking to set some goals for myself. Definitely been a fan of your summer/winter shape-ups and try to incorporate them into my fitness routine – and it’s starting to pay off! The hardest thing that’s happening is I am kind of moving in the direction of being vegetarian, with fish/beef sometimes (I just can’t do chicken), and having a hard time getting enough protein. So I’m thinking I’ll only pick up more good habits by learning more about how you’ve made your own choices. Anyway, long story, but just wanted to let you know how much I appreciate all the helpful info you put here! – K
thank you, kay!
it’s funny because my eats have changed so much from when i started the blog. finding out what works best for you can be a long process, but once you get it, you get it
