December 2008

Helloooooo! How’s your day been? Any big plans for New Year’s Eve?

I got my Pei Wizzle last night!! Some of the fam wanted pizza, but the rest of us wanted Pei Wei and ended up getting that. I was stoooooked :D

I made a salad at home with some baby greens (which my nana brought over from TJs and was asking me if I ate my salad yet.. don’t you fret little nana, I’ve polished off the whole bag within a couple of days!) and chili sauce as the dressing

001

My meal from Pei Wei was a kid’s teriyaki shrimp with brown rice, no sauce, added veggies and steamed instead of fried. This is why I’m not a fan of eating out—creating my own meals from the menu is exhausting! I’d rather make it at home without having to explain it to someone

002

It was delish and SPICY (just how I like it) :D

I spent the night reading Eclipse had dreams about my pilot, who’s my own personal Edward Cullen… minus the vampire-ness of course

This morning I woke up nice and early for a base trail run!

I munched a Clif bar:

005

(This flavor was recommended by my aunt and I LOVE IT. I don’t usually like fruity bars, but this was outta control delicious and tasted exactly like a blueberry muffin)

I wasn’t feeling too motivated when I got to the trail, despite my new running tights, half-zip and beanie, but as soon as I saw that the trail was full of people running in their military PT gear, it lit a fire under me and I was so ready to leave them in the dust. I did 4.5 miles in 37 minutes, then walked around for 10 minutes and did some stretches. Perfect way to start the morning :)

We were meeting my nana for brunch, but I was starving when we got back, so I had this before I took a shower and got ready:

006

We went to my favorite Tucson b-fast spot, THE GOOD EGG, which is more like “The Extremelydecadentoutstandingscrumptiousblowmymind Egg” and the familia ordered this cinnamon roll:

007

With cream cheese frosting…… drool….. I resisted the urge to eat the entire plateful and only had one bite to taste it.

For my brunch, I had my usual Traditional Day Starter with two egg whites cooked in spray instead of oil, fruit instead of potatoes and a whole wheat pancake with no butter instead of the english muffin.

I totally wasn’t joking about how I create my own meals from the menu to make them Gina-friendly. I’m sure a lot of you do this too!

008

009

It was incredible!! After b-fast, we went to the mall, and I did not find ANYTHING at Victoria’s Secret semi-annual sale –guess I’ll be shopping online instead—and then came home and took a nap with my puppy while the madre and brother went to Kohl’s and Trader Joe’s.

When I woke up from my nap, I was ready for a snack, so I had a pear:

010

An almond butter filled cucaracha:

011

And a salad with a sprinkle of garbanzos and some Goddess dressing:

012

I hit up the gym for a quick upper body workout:

Elliptical Level 5, 5 minutes
Overhead shoulder press 15 lbs, 3 sets of 12
Compound row 20 lbs each side, 3 sets of 12
Cable chest fly 10 lbs, 3 sets of 12
V-triceps extension 50 lbs, 3 sets of 10
Lower back extension 50 lbs, 3 sets of 12
Total time 35 minutes

When I got home, the aroma of a delicious feast filled the casa.

My madre made a casserole with stir fry veggies, bok choy, mushrooms, scallops and shrimp with a roasted red pepper sauce and topped pasta with the stir fry and baked it with cheese:

013

She made me a separate cheese-free, pasta-free version:

014

It was aaaaaaaaamazing. Thank you madre!

After dinner, we headed over to my nana’s to see my cousins and received some disheartening news on the drive there. I don’t want to say what’s going on for privacy sake, but please keep my aunt in your thoughts. I love her like crazy and I know she’ll be ok because she has to be, but if you would please take a second and pray for her health, I would appreciate it so much. Good thoughts can go such a long way and I know it would help a lot.

ANYHOO,

after my nana’s we made a quick Whole Foods run and then came home.

I needed a little snackaroo when we got here, so I grabbed a snowman mugful of honey puffed wheat with soy milk:

015

Perfect.

Well it’s jammie time up in here, so I’m gonna get ready for bed and read a little. Tomorrow morning it’s zumba and pilates :D

Hope you’re all having a great night and I’ll see ya tomorrow.

xoxo,

Gina

Something to think- Time is going to pass, no matter what. You can choose to use time to your advantage and work hard to accomplish the goals you’ve set out for yourself and look back after 6 months and be proud of all that you’ve done. Or, in 6 months, you could be exactly where you are right now. I remind myself of that often when I’m lacking motivation to eat well or work out. Stick with it… it’s well worth it and if it were easy, everyone would do it. You can :D

Hey!! Sorry for not posting last night! When you see how my night ended up, you’ll be glad I didn’t :D

I started off yesterday morning with a pumpkin b-fast cookie:

001

After that, I went to the base and played a little game I like to call Dude, where’s my car?

I parked by a running trail, ran two laps around (3 miles) to make sure I had a solid pace going (9 minute miles), then TOOK OFF!! I ran around the base for 1 hr 15 minutes—about 7.5 miles (and the time included a decent amount of stretching).

Now, keep in mind, this game is NOT to be played off base! Please don’t park your car in a random place and run around for an hour and then try to find it. I love this way of running when I’m on base because I never get bored and I know I’ll be safe the entire time.

After the glorious run, my knees were killing me from the cold, so I took a supahot shower, then did about 20 minutes of yoga stretches.

I also munched this Clif bar:

003

And had some much needed coffee:

002

A couple of hours later, my nana called me to see if I wanted to meet her and my tata for breakfast. I definitely went, but since I wasn’t too hungry, I ordered two egg whites, a fruit cup and more coffee:

004

We ran some errands, went shopping (!!!), then came home for snack.

I had some leftover greek salad:

005

And a pear :D (no pic!)

Later that night, I went to Guadalajara Grill with some friends. I started off with a GIGANTIC sangria:

007

Then we all took kamikaze shots:

008

By that time, I’d already had a sizable amount of chips and salsa (which they make FRESH at your table!! I loooove it), and my dinner arrived:

Camarones diabla with no rice and no cheese

009

It was soooooo good! By the time we left, I had finished my entire sangria, most of my meal and had taken quite a few dips into the chip bowl. I almost never have chips and salsa –when I’m with my family, I just order my own salsa and eat it with a spoon since chips are a little too addicting for me—so last night turned into an unintentional treat/drink night. Very worth it though :D

After our glorious Mexican feast, some of us went to see Marley and Me. Total sobfest. And I’m not just saying that because I was inebriated when I saw it.. I would have been balling my eyes out regardless. Don’t get me wrong, it was a great movie, especially if you like to leave the theatre with eyeliner dripping down your face. It was heartbreaking. I think I need to go see Twilight again to get over it :D Edward Cullen can cheer me up!

*Note: To further live up my “treat night” I had some kettle corn, too >;)

I got home, crawled into bed, and crashed out!

This morning, I woke up feeling like death, but wasn’t too sick to eat one of these:

012

I hit up the gym and took it easy by doing 40 minutes on the elliptical, then a 1 hr 15 min Pilates class. Stretching felt AMAZING after yesterday’s run!

I came home and went back to bed, until I had to go pick up my bro from work.

I made my favorite fries when we got back:

013

I’d missed those little guys!

I took my bro to the credit union, where he got the keys to his new Eclipse (whoo hoo!!!), then we came home to chill for a while.

I just munched one of these brown rice treats:

014

(the Glenny’s brand is WAY better)

and a “baked apple” (sprayed with nonstick spray, topped with cinnamon and microwaved for 2 minutes)

015

I’m not sure what we’re doing to rest of the night, or what dinner plans are yet… I’m hoping for Pei Wizzle (=Pei Wei) :D

I hope you all have a great night and I’ll see you tomorrow!

Much love,

Gina

Today’s tip: Make the MOST of your weight workouts!! If you can easily do 15 reps of an exercise, it’s time to increase the weight. You should be really pushing yourself to finish the last few reps of each set. Don’t hurt yourself, of course, or sacrifice good form, but if you don’t need to really push yourself to finish the last few reps of each set, the weight is too light. Need help starting out?? Check out my workout page Another tip: pause for a second at the top of each rep… For example, if you’re doing a bicep curl, bring the weights up and hold them in place for 1-2 seconds before lowering. This will make your weight workouts more challenging and a LOT more efficient. Remember that change creates change. If you’re doing the same old thing and not seeing results, that’s exactly why! You know I’m cheering you on :D
