January 2009

Hey everyone! Happy weekend! Hope yours is going swimmingly ;)

This is gonna be a quickie because Megan will be here any second to cook an Indian feast with me.

Yesterday morning, I met my friend Ashley for a pilates pow wow and ate this before heading out:

001

For someone who usually isn’t a fan of white chocolate, Jenn has me HOOKED on these bars!!

When I got home, it was a cucaracha for snack:

004

I spent the entire day being domestic by cleaning and baking up a storm.

I stopped for a lonchi of AB and P on Ezekiel:

005

And my new favorite combo: APPLE AND GOAT CHEESE!

006

I went with Jeni and her friend Megan to Hizzle Lizzle (aka Hobby Lobby) and then my friend Megan (yup, there were 2 Megans) met the 3 of us at Lonestar for dinner.

I got my usual: grilled shrimp with no butter sauce, a plain baked sweet potato and veggies:

008

009

I also had a lovely glass of vino :D

When I got home, it was still pretty early and I decided to do a Dave Farmar podcast after reading about it on Jenna’s blog. IT WAS FREAKING AMAZING. I figured Jenna definitely knows her yoga, and if she said he was good, then he had to be—and it rocked my world. For the first time EVER, I truly enjoyed doing yoga and actually got an awesome workout from it! Thank you for the great recommendation, Jenna! I’ll totally be doing these podcasts more often!

This morning, I really wanted cereal for b-fast, even though it never fills me up. It just sounded so good.

I topped Whole Foods honey wheat puffs with 1/2 banana (ate the other half on the side w/ AB), goji berries, blueberries and 3/4 cup almond milk.

010

I hit up Wizzle for a few things, waited in line at the post office for an hour to ship 5 packages (macarooons are on the way, friends!) then had this for a snack:

011

Heather introduced me to these bars and I absolutely adore them. Kind of like a Larabar, minus the stickiness.

After that, I loaded up my iPod and Camelbak and drove to base for a long run. I did 9.5 miles and it was a doozy. I felt so victorious when it was over, though. I munched some Sports Beans after mile 6 and didn’t take a pic—they were delicious, though :D

When I got home, I was starving, but in a rush to let the puppers out, shower and meet my friends at the movies.

I tried another new goat cheese combo: cucaracha and goat cheese

012

It was surprisingly incredible. I’m starting to think goat cheese is good on anything ;)

I also had a 1 egg, 1 egg white egg-stada with salsa

014

And popped a ton of popcorn and topped it with sea salt and nutritional yeast to sneak into the movies with me. I should have re-bagged it because the bottom corner had a hole in it and proceeded to sprinkle nutritional yeast at the bottom of my Chanel bag. Lovely. I cleaned it out, and still ate the popcorn of course :D

013

We saw New in Town and it was pretty cute. I’m not a huge Harry Connick Jr. fan –Patrick Dempsey should have been in it, haha—but it was funny and endearing.. and made me miss my pilot, of course. I’m so ready for him to get back here!! I can’t see scary movies while he’s gone because I have nightmares, and even the slightest bit of romance in a movie turns me into a giant mushball.

We went to Marble Slab after the movies and I got a small yogurt swirl with chocolate chips:

015

It was gloooooorious.

Well I’m off to make some Indian food with Megan!!! I’ll be catching up on your blogs in the morning! Hope you’re all having a wonderful weekend!

xoxo,

Hey bloggies :D Happy Friday to youuuuuuuuu!

First off, I am very touched by all of the sweet comments I got on my weight-loss post. Your kind words mean so much to me and from the bottom of mi corazon: THANK YOU :D I wish I would have known back then that such an amazing group of girls would be cheering me on!

Here are yesterdays eats (and treats):

I started off with a AB,B and P (which stands for Polaner) B-fast cookie:

007

(I smeared the Polaner on top before putting it in the fridge overnight. It gave it a lovely glossy sheen and some extra sweetness, which is always enjoyable)

I took the puppers for a walk and munched this for a snack:

009

Then I got ready for work. I seriously love being a TA— I help out kids in the class if they have questions (which is fairly often) and when I’m not doing that, I upload grades and do homework. Brilliant.

My camera ate my lunch. Which is a bummer because it was SO good—an Ezekiel tortilla with homemade raw hummus, spinach, tomato and eggplant bacon. I also had an apple.

After work, I had some Kashi crackers and hummus:

004

And some Rooibos Chai from Teavana.

006

Some of you asked how the teamaker works… You just add the tea leaves and boiling water into the teamaker and let it brew according to the appropriate time. Then when it’s ready, you put the teamaker on top of your mug and it drains the tea right into it. It’s quite brilliant :D

I went to the base gym to teach step and was horrified to see that the battery in my mic was dead. I went up to the desk and told the girl, who just said : Oh, sorry. I asked her if she would help me find one or go to the BX and buy one, and she said she couldn’t because she was the only one working. In other words, she didn’t feel like helping me at all. I was about to cancel the class (and dreading it since more than 20 people had already set up their steps) when one of my regulars went to her car and FOUND TWO BRAND NEW 9 VOLT BATTERIES. I wanted to kiss her :D Class ended up going really well.

When I got home, I was ready to make some of my favorite dessert ever:

013

Raw vegan macaroons. These will change your life. Seriously.

The lovely Meghann has a Blogger Bake Sale coming up (on Feb. 9th), so if you’d like to try some of these bad boys, you’ll have the chance to purchase some and donate to a truly amazing cause.

The batch I made last night was for some bloggy friends, but I had to try one to make sure they were ok:

017

Last night ended up turning into an impromptu wine night, when Megan and Hayley came over to have so vino with me. I had to celebrate the start of my 3 day weekend :D

015

We also each had a Starbucks chocolate truffle:

005

And here’s a pic of my slightly unattractive dinner:

014

012

This morning, I woke up early to take Bella to the groomer, and Viesa got her nails cut. I’m going to give little Viessy a bath before Bella gets home, which is always a joy since she acts like I’m pouring acid on her, when it’s really just lukewarm water. She hates baths.

I had a beautiful bowl of oats this morning… almost Kath quality ;)

019

1/2 cup oats, 1 cup water, 1/2 small banana, blueberries, goji berries, 1/2 scoop vanilla protein and a sprinkle of FEED granola.

Now I’m off to clean like a maniac, then hit up Targizzle. I’m thinking the girls and I are going to dinner and a movie later.

I’m thinking it’s time for another pilot post ;)

Enjoy your FRRRIIIIIIDAY!

xoxo,

G$

Something to talk about:  Laura mentioned on her blog earlier this week about an Oprah episode that was aired concerning obese children/teenagers. I was able to catch most of the second episode, which was devastating and extremely thought-provoking. According to the episode, the childhood obesity rate is up 30% from the year 2000 and for the first time in history, children have a lower life expectancy than their parents. The thing is, a lot of the children were saying that they don’t eat because they’re hungry—they eat to numb themselves from the pain that they’re feeling. What I’m wondering is, what needs to be done to change this??

-Better education for children on proper eating/nutrition?

-Education for PARENTS on what they feed their children?

-Getting all of the chemicals and junk out of the food that’s intended for consumption by children/teenagers?

-More sports/athletic activities in schools?

-Has Obama mentioned any initiatives to address this epidemic??

January 28, 2009

Heyyyyyy! TGIAF! I’m soooo ready for this weekend I’ve been promising a “before” pic of myself for quite some time, but since the madre’s been holding them hostage (and never believed I was overweight to begin with) so that’s where the hold-up has been. I came across this picture while cleaning the closet out last [...]

Trading expensive habits

January 27, 2009

Hey everyone! Happy Tuesday I dropped my camera yesterday and now the battery cover won’t stay on. In order to upload the photos I had to hold the cover on my camera the entire time—accidentally let go, and was left with 11 out my 17 photos. So for some of these I’m going to be [...]
