The Early Bird Doesn’t Zumba

Helloooo! Hope you all had a great day back to work and escuela. My day has been bueno, but looooooooong. As things get crazier and crazier this semester, posting will be a little sporadic. I’ll still post every day, but who knows what time it will be ;)

I started the day way earlier than humanly necessary and had an Early bird b-fast cookie:

001_thumb

I topped this one with goji berries and a sprinkle of FEED granola that I picked up at Fresh Market in Orlandy.

I went to the base gym to teach 7am Zumba and, shocker, no one showed up. I know for a fact that this is WAY too early for Zumba- my Wednesday night class is usually packed but some Monday morning, no one shows. I don’t blame them—7am is PT hour, so military guys are all over the place and it’s more lift-weights-and-grunt time than prime booty shaking time.

So that my trip wasn’t worthless, I did a short workout before coming home to the sleeping puppies:

Stairmaster 20 minutes, level 6
Stability ball hamstring curl body weight, 3 sets of 12
Inner thigh stability ball plie and squeeze body weight, 3 sets of 12
V-glutes 3 sets of 12
Standing stability ball calf raises 20 lbs, 3 sets of 10
Leg extension 25 lbs, 3 sets of 12
Total time: 45 minutes

When I got back to the casa, I had a snack of a two egg white stada with salsa, Ezekiel and a macaroon (for, ahem, healthy fat)

002_thumb

I got ready for work and had this before leaving:

003_thumb

Work was pretty uneventful, and I came home for my lunch break to make the following:

Salad with chickpeas and Goddess dressing and an Ezekiel soup-dipper

004_thumb

Whole Foods creamy tomato soup (1.5 cups)

005_thumb

Tomato soup is so comforting. It wraps my heart in creamy goodness haha.

I went back to work to TA one more class, then came home and did something I haven’t done in forever: took an hour nap with the puppies.

Waking up so early for nonexistant Zumba is seriously exhausting.

When I woke up, I was snacky (of course) so I had some patriotic fruit:

006_thumb

Then I hit the gym for a insane booty-kicking run sesh. More to follow in the “something to do” section at the end of this post.

I came back, with the U-shaped sweat on my shirt that’s a sign of a killer workout and made some quick dinner before heading to class.

In a skillet,

-1 onion, diced and cooked on med-high in olive oil for 5 minutes

-2 cloves garlic

-1 can organic whole, peeled tomatoes

-italian seasoning, salt, pepper, red chili flakes

-3/4 cup chickpeas

-2 servings of shrimp (which I defrosting beforehand)

Here’s what I got:

008

I LOOOOOOOVE SHRIMP!!!

Here’s my serving (I saved the other half for tomorrow.. so yes, leftover’s are in the near future)

009

Succulent little shrimpies.

Dessert:

010

I went to class and teach decided it would be a nice night to keep us late (arghhhh) so I am so ready for jammie time.

Hope you all have a wonderful evening and I’ll see ya tomorrow!

Much love,

G

Something to do: Treadmill workout!!! Here’s the one I did today: Run It Off A couple of changes that I made were that I walked at 4.0 for 3 minutes to warm up (instead of 3.5) and also ran an additional 7 minutes at 6.0 mph with a 2.5% incline before cooling down. This was an INTENSE and beautifully short workout. Let me know if any of you try it!!

ooooh your shrimpy mix looks yum! Sorry about zumba – blah – Zumba definitely seems like more of a post-work class than a pre-work, especially on a Monday! Glad you got in the workout though to make it worth your while. :)

Sorry to hear no one showed for early Zumba. At least you got a good nap in. :)

Your dinner looks so simple and delicious! I love both shrimp and chickpeas.

Your treadmill workout sounds killer! I would fall off the treadmill. :P

I have a question about Zumba. My gym is offering a class for 6 six weeks and last week was the first one. The instructer says that they’re taught not to teach us the moves, we’re just supposed to see them and do them. Is this true? Because it made it pretty hard sometimes. I know the class stays the same every week, so by week 6 I should have them down, but it seemed weird and very difficult to just watch her do the moves and try to follow along!

What a nice day of simple eats! I know I feel all self righteous when I eat all whole foods all day long – you must have a happy belly. Plus anything with Goddess dressing is better – I even did a stir fry with it tonight and it was AWESOME! I had to post the recipe. Better luck with Zumba next time!

hey petit noonie- yes that’s pretty much what zumba is. some instructors will teach you the moves before they start the music, but i’m one of the teachers that dances and the class copies me. a lot of the dances repeat the same 5-6 moves over and over, so it’s easier to follow along. by the end of 6 weeks, you’ll definitely have it down!

diana- that’s funny you say that.. i’m always stoked when i have awesome eats and feel so good about :D

Oh my gosh Gina – just got your macaroons and banana bread today. Bring on the good fats – those things are not going to last long in our house. Thank you so much.

Sorry no one showed up for Zumba – I can understand too. I don’t know if I’d be up for much booty shaking at that hour. :)

Love your treadmill workout. I bet that little bit of incline makes such a difference. I’m bookmarking this one. Have a good night my shrimp lovin friend!

Hey Gina! That work out looks good but I have a question! I walk at 6-7 on my treadmill and run at 10-10.2. Any idea on how to do the conversion so that I’m getting a bang for my buck? If you have a second, shoot me off an email! Thanks!

That treadmill workout looks intense – just what I need! I am training for a half as well and get really bored going at the same pace/incline for several miles. Thanks for the post and I will let you know how I feel after I try it out! :)

Did the “Run it Off” treadmill workout today! It was killer…it’s amazing what a little incline can do to your routine! I’m looking forward to doing it again and am going to look for more tread workouts for the winter as running outside is not all that easy with all the snow I’m dealing with up here in Canada! Stay safe!

    Thanks Gina
