Hey guys! How are ya?? Things are bueno over here- just got back from a walk with the puppers and thought I’d do a little post before going to the post office to send off these macaroons :D

Yesterday ended up being nothing like I expected! I didn’t end up teaching, or go to school due to the absolutely insane weather that randomly occurred.

I did have a scrumptious lunch before going to work…..

Freshly made raw hummus

002

The texture of raw hummus is very fluffy and light unlike the dense traditional hummus. It’s made the same way, only using soaked dried chickpeas and raw tahini.

I spread the hummus on top of two slices of the raw sesame flax bread from Ani’s Raw Food Kitchen:

001

Topped with romaine, tomato and sliced bell pepper- it was perfect and very filling.

I love how the bread turned out! Instead of being crispy like a flatbread, it’s super soft and grainy

003

Work was pretty uneventful –the class I TA for had a test- but I was so excited to see an Easter package from the Tucson familia when I got home!

Tons of candy (for the pilot, even though I was scoping out the pink peeps….) and a gift card to Seasons 52 which we can totally use for some dessert this weekend :D

004

I make a new cd for spin and sipped on some lovely juice:

006

(I used half the bag of carrots)

009

After that, I went to teach in the torrential rain. Base is a good 20 minutes from the house and I couldn’t see most of the time I was driving. Not very safe, I know :/ Also, they have an exercise going on right now which means that the entire base is preparing for multiple scenarios and usually practice what it’s like to deploy. I find this kind of hilarious since the pilot’s squadron just got back from a deployment—I’m pretty sure they know how to do it….. People are camped out in tents, there are tanks by the gates armed with men with machine guns (kinda creepy) and the base gym is totally empty because everyone is working on exercise-related stuff with their respective squadron. For all of those reasons, NO ONE came to spin class or any of the classes the were scheduled for yesterday.

So I drove back home to the puppies, hid during the tornado watch, did 30 minutes of the New York City Ballet Company workout, and then met my friend Jeni at the gym closer to the house.

Here’s yesterday’s workout:

Elliptical Cross country 2 program, level 5, 35 minutes
V-rope tricep pressdown 40 lbs, 3 sets of 12
Dumbbell upward rows 10 lbs each, 3 sets of 10
Seated chest press 35 lbs, 3 sets of 12
Supine dumbbell skull crusher 8 lbs each, 3 sets of 10
Front dumbbell raises 8 lbs, 3 sets of 12
Supine chest fly 5 lbs each, 3 sets of 12
Overhead press 20 lbs, 3 sets of 10
Stretching 5 minutes
Total time: 1 hr 5 min

When I got back to the casa, the pilot was home and had grabbed Moe’s for dinner, so I just had a bar:

012

I still feel pretty meh about these bars. I have two flavors left to try, but from what I can tell, Lara still wins.

Two egg whites and leftover asparagus:

013

I got the macaroons (and other goodies) ready to ship and then called it a night!

This morning, I woke up to a beautiful breakfast cookie

014

The puppies and I went to the base trail for their walk and SAW THE BASE ALLIGATOR AGAIN!!! She was floating in the water with her little bug eyes sticking out and gave me the heeby jeebies!!! We definitely kept our distance from her….

When we got home, I was feeling a little snacky, so after munching on a super charge me cookie I made something a little more substantial—egg whites and Joe

015

Well I’m off to the post office, work, (hopefully) teaching step if the weather allows!, then to school (?).

I owe ya an intuitive eating post, which I’m going to do tonight (I promise!) because while I was cleaning yesterday, I found some of my pre weight-loss pics I want to include….

Hope you all have a very happy Tuesday!

Much love,

G

Today’s tip: While doing weights, make sure to keep your core engaged the entire time. It will make your workout even more effective, help your posture and adds a bonus toning sesh. Last night, while I did weights, I kept my abs tight (without holding my breath) and am a little sore today even though I didn’t do abs-specific exercises. Give it a whirl :D

I always liked driving around on base as a kid while they playing war boy. :-)

I should try raw hummus. It looks really good!

    Hope the weather holds out!

I am excited to read about your intuitive eating post. I have been working hard at it- but it’s not easy.

Also, I know you’re in lil’ Valdosta, so I thought I’d let you know I’m having a giveaway of some AWESOME bars you might like! Check it out: http://peanutbutterandjuli.wordpress.com/2009/04/13/perfect-foods/

They are really great before workouts (which you do a ton of… hehehe) Have a great day, Fitnessista!

    Oooh, raw hummus!!

    Great Easter package!!

Yeah, tons of rain here too – it’s frightening!!

We need to do a Larabar/Pure bar swap – I haven’t eaten Larabars in months, but eat Pure bars now everyday.

I think intuitive eating is becoming more, well…intuitive for me! I’m not even trying at it very hard, but I really noticed it this weekend with the Easter candy. Part of me wanted to eat it all up so it’d be out of the house and not tempting me, but I noticed a strong feeling after eating a few chocolates that I really didn’t want any more. A while ago, I would’ve eaten more anyway, but now my brain is able to take charge and tell me I won’t be happy if I keep shovelling it in. Looking forward to your thoughts!

I am always trying to “keep my core tight” but I am really not positive on whether or not I am doing it right…
I cannot believe you just see an alligator walking by like that!!!

Oh no sorry about the weather and no one coming to classes, I remember how disappointing that used to be…good workout anyways though!

Definitely agree about engaging my core, I need to remember to do that the ENTIRE time!

Hey flaxy Mama! I just wanted to say that.

You have shown me why I can’t buy a juicer. I can’t imagine spending MORE money on produce than I already do!

The breakfast cookie looks awesome! And I agree with the person who commented on buying produce and juicing … I spend so much already, it would break the bank to buy more!

What seasonings do you put on your eggs whites? I’m always at a loss for seasoning …

    Great blog!

The breakfast cookie is so puurrrrtttyyy today! I love your tip! I make an effort to hold my abs in on all of my weights and that saves me from mindless crunches later on. I totally agree it can work the core in a much different way than traditional ab work. I also squeeze them like crazy during spin class and find that helps a ton too! Have a wonderful rain free…no alligator spotting day :)

How did you like the NYBB workout? I have the DVD but haven’t brought it out in a looonnnggg time.

I remember really liking the abdominal series and floor work but not much of anything else. Maybe I’ll have to bring it out again.

    Haha that’s for the motivation!

At least there is no snow on the ground like there is at my house! I would love some rain to maybe green the brownness which is my yard!

    You’re awesome!

Aw! What a bummer that you drove through that rain and no one was at the gym! They should just cancel all classes on those days!!!

The raw hummus sounds good! I love how fluffy it looks.

I need to send you some pics of the gators in our neighborhood. I keep forgetting to bring my camera with me on my runs!

    Have a good day :)
