Brain freeze, food baby and a buzz

Hey guys! How’s your weekend going? Mine has been GLORIOUS!! Thank goodness we’re done with all that party stuff. It felt sooooo nice to chillax it up.

Before I get on with the blog, I just have to say

HAPPY BIRTHDAY….

image  (Image from here)

TO MY NANA!!!

She is a faithful blog reader and always supports the bloggy by sending me cute plates and care packages. I love you, friend and am so blessed to have you <3

So last night, my friend Jeni and I hung out while the boys went and played poker.

We had a delicious feast at Longhorn!

I got the usual shrimpies and double veggies:

001

And an unpictured glass of red vino 😀

After dinner, we decided to get dessert before the movie and picked up some TCBY.

I got the white chocolate mousse:

002

And LOVED it. Real dairy, fake sugar and all. It was good stuff.

After the froyo, I had a brain freeze, a food baby and a buzz from the vino. If those aren’t the qualities of a successful night, I don’t know what is haha 😀

We went to see Bruno which was WAY different than I expected. It was funny, but not highlarious funny, and I saw a little more male body parts than I had bargained for. It was borderline traumatizing. So to make up for it, we made it a double feature and saw Harry Potter 😉 I LOOOOOOOVED IT! It made me even more excited to re-read the first 4 books and finally finish the series.

This morning, I whipped up a lovely sludge for bfast:

003

Hemp milk, Vega smoothie infusion, almond butter, banana, stevia, sea salt and cinnamon. Deeeeelicious.

The pilot and I were lazy bums for most of the day and lounged by the pool, and then did something very domestic by getting a Sam’s membership. I was joking with the pilot that I actually feel married now because we have a Sam’s membership 😉

Lunch was simple and scrumptious:

Pumpkin Pie in a bowl

006

(minus the avocado and it was still super creamy and wonderful)

005

And a spouted English muffin with ketchup, mustard and romaine with grape tomatoes on the side.

This is a quickie post because Next Food Network star is on (gooooo Melissa and Jeffrey!), but I’ll be back in the morning with pics from tonight’s ridiculously amazing dinner.

Hope you’ve all had a wonderful weekend!

xoxo,

G

I definitely don't think anything proves a successful night more than a little buzz and a happy tummy. 🙂

Can't wait to read about your dinner.

  4. Kristin on July 19, 2009 at 10:06 pm

    TCBY, yum! 🙂

How do you like Sam's? I just joined Costco after reading a bunch of negative things about Sam's. How is the one in your area?

  5. eatingbirdfood on July 19, 2009 at 10:10 pm

Whew, double header with Bruno and HP- you're a movie going champ!

I loved HP as well, both the book and the movie. I think book 6 is my favorite! Isaac saw Bruno and said he was a little disgusted then said he thought I would hate it so I think I'll take his advice and skip it. haha.

I didn't know that the original Pumpkin Pie in a bowl recipe had avocado in it. I've been making it without it all along and fell in love. I'm sure it tastes really creamy with the avocado.

    Happy b-day to your NANA!

Glad you got some down time in after all the craziness of the dinner party. Love TCBY! mmmm- I can't get enough. Next foodnetwork star was really good…I can't wait to see who wins this season!! I am pulling for Melissa!

Aww happy birthday to your nana!

You might have mentioned it before but why do you add sea salt to the smoothies? Does it do something for the taste? Just wondering cause I hadn't heard of doing that before!

  10. VeggieGirl on July 19, 2009 at 10:25 pm

Happy birthday to your dear Nana!!

Oh yes, I was watching TNFS too (guilty pleasure, even though this season is kinda lame, haha).

  11. Fitnessista on July 19, 2009 at 10:28 pm

hey kristin- we only have a sam's club here (no costco) but i was wayyyy impressed by the selection! in tucson, where i'm from, the costco there is much better than the sam's club.

amelia- whenever you're making something sweet, it's a great idea to add a little bit of sea salt. sounds counter-intuitive, but really helps the natural flavors and sweetness come out.

I'm so glad you liked Harry Potter! I was traumatized enough by Borat to not even consider Bruno, even though the whole eminem thing was freaking funny, in my opinion. The sludge sounds fantastic!!

  13. Gena (Choosing Raw) on July 19, 2009 at 10:38 pm

I SO wish I were there hanging out with you and Megan too!!

Happy bday Nana!!! Can't wait for a din recap.

  14. MarathonVal on July 19, 2009 at 10:54 pm

That's hilarious, I totally did the same thing after seeing Bruno the other night. I, too, found it funny but also at times very offensive and traumatizing so afterward we snuck in to see the movie "Up" to cleanse ourselves 🙂

  15. Amie on July 19, 2009 at 10:59 pm

Yeah, Bruno looks like it would be a little much for me, too. Sam's is fun! It'll be perfect for if you guys are in charge of another party!

  16. Amelia (AC/DC: Highways to Health) on July 19, 2009 at 10:59 pm

I had no idea! Thanks for the tip!

  17. Juju on July 19, 2009 at 11:37 pm

I'm curious…how do you make pumpkin pie in a bowl?

  18. ttfn300 on July 19, 2009 at 11:48 pm

sounds like a fabulous night to me! happy birthday to your nana!! 🙂 horray for wholesale! except for the fact that i go nuts… 😉

  19. whole bbdy love on July 20, 2009 at 12:51 am

I still crave the fake sugar and dairy taste of the froyo from my hometown's ice cream place! Maybe because it's a block from my "Nan's" house and it brings back great memories 🙂 Happy Birthday to your NANA!!

  20. Becca on July 20, 2009 at 1:15 am

    Hey Gina,

If I remember right, you, personally and taste-wise, found your chia seed dishes to be a mixed-bag. I'd really like to try them out. Could you please tell me what way it is that you like them?

    Gracias gracias

    Happy Birthday Nana!

I have decided that Bruno is far too adult for my virginal eyes.

And I'm pretty sure I'd cave for that TCBY too. Especially after some vino. I've always loved me some White Chocolate Mousse.

Hope your week starts out great!

  22. Peabody on July 20, 2009 at 3:05 am

How sweet….happy birthday to your grandma!

  23. Ada on July 20, 2009 at 5:53 am

Those qualities you listed are definitely markers of a great night! I'm glad that it was such a blast and now I cannot wait to see Harry Potter:)

  24. Mara @ What's For Dinner? on July 20, 2009 at 6:43 am

OMG Bruno was ridiculous… and HP was fantastic! I think HP cancels out the nastiness in Bruno, for sure 🙂

  25. carolinebee on July 20, 2009 at 7:45 am

happy bday nana!! I love that she keeps you stocked with the holiday dishware 😀

  26. RhodeyGirl/Sabrina on July 20, 2009 at 8:03 am

i hated bruno! in fact, some people even walked out when i went to see it! i thought it was kind of.. offensive, for lack of a better word.

can't wait to see this amazing dinner u speak of!

    have a fab day!

  27. Amanda (Panda) on July 20, 2009 at 8:16 am

I hope your Nana has a great bday!! 🙂

I've been eager to get a costco or sams club card!! You'l have to let us know if you like it

  31. Andrea (Off Her Cork) on July 20, 2009 at 8:50 am

We have Sam's too! Costco is way too far to travel (about 40 min) and Sam's is right down the road. Ours has lots of organic produce and we can get soymilk for super cheap!

  32. Granite Gourmet on July 20, 2009 at 8:55 am

Happy Birthday Nana! Have a great day! I hope your granddaughter sends you some macaroons. 🙂

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOUR NANA!! Fitnessista's Nana: Thanks for sending her the plates – they're so festive 🙂

My guy friends had a dude-date and saw Bruno together. They couldn't even explain how awkward it was at certain times 😉

  36. Lindsay on July 20, 2009 at 10:16 am

Oh gosh, Bruno was….hilarious but insane and traumatic. I still don't get how it just got an R rating…don't they do NC17 anymore?? That was porn!

  37. Joelle (The Pancake Girl) on July 20, 2009 at 12:35 pm

    Aw yay for awesome grandmas!
Can you possibly tell me where you found that recipe for pumpkin pie in a bowl? It looks so yummy and I love pumpkin!

I love Debbie too — she is the Barefoot Contessa's Korean twin!

Happy Birthday to your Nana – Yeah My hubby (who by the way works with A-10's- was shocked to see that your hubby pilot's them) took our 17 year old daughter to see Bruno. He was very embarrased and there were some younger girls behind them who sounded a bit overwhelmed. I think it's sad that it got an R, because with what my husband said – it sounded like it should have been NC17 if not X.
