Where’s the meat?

Hey everyone! Hope you had a fabulous day 😀

I spent most of the afternoon getting ready for my classes, reading Time Traveler’s Wife, and working on some blog stuff to get it switched over to self-hosted.. it will probably be done by tomorrow night and I’m wayyy excited about it! The plan is to add tabs for workouts, recipes, etc and make the ol’ bloggy a little more clean and easy to navigate. It should be bueno 😀

This afternoon, my pre-teaching snack was 1/2 cup hemp milk (and 1/2 cup water because I’m ghetto I ran out of hemp milk), with sprouted brown rice protein, cinnamon and Stevia:

010

(Any other Dane Cook fans? “The movie Dune was in my chocolaty drink")

Teaching spin was a blasty (my boss came, so I made class extra crazy) but after going full out –sometimes I fake it or walk around and teach if my body is tired…today it was not- and realized that I forgot my in-between spin and Zumba snack 🙁 Zumba is not a class you can fake, no matter how hard you try, so by the end I was starving. I’m embarrassed- here I am telling you guys to EAT and I failed to follow suit by forgetting my snack :/ Yikers.

I tweeted this pic of my post-aerobics self:

(Bathroom pic = uber classen haven)

I came home to the pilot and puppers, and before showering or properly saying hello, I grabbed some FOOD!

011

Almond butter and Superfruit spread on a wheat tortilla from Tucson.

Much. Better.

For dinner I made some tabbouleh:

012

Quinoa, mint, parsley, grape tomatoes, green onion, cucumber, lemon juice, garlic, cayenne, salt and pepper.

013

Roasted veggies for me:

014

And Eggplant Gyros for the pilot:

015

Inside the mouth of the pita:

016

It wasn’t until I started slicing the eggplant that I realized the pilot’s meal was 100% vegetarian. Usually when I do that, I throw some meat in there, but figured he might not notice the lack of meat because the meal really did look delicious.

”How’s your gyro, face?”

”It’s delicious! But, uhhhh, where’s the meat?”

So even though he did enjoy his dinner, I can’t fool this guy by failing to meat-ify his meals.

Here’s my plate:

017

Scrumptious!!!!

Well I’m off to read –I really, really want to finish this book!!!!!- and crash out.

In the morning, I’m going to post a sappy one (not my usual style, but it’s much-needed) and take the babies for a walk, per usual before starting the daily grind.

Have a lovely evening <3

xoxo,

G

I had quinoa tonight, too! Mine didn't turn out so well though :/ My husband always likes the meat in the meals too, heh.

Darn I almost had the first comment which on your bloggie is unheard of. Self-hosted, do tell. I would love to do that…interfacing with blogger can be ummm tedious. And wordpress and me never figured each other out 🙂

Your yellow summer squash…I just got a craving for it looking at your pics. Hello grocery store in the morning…yay, veggie I forgot about that'll be new for me for a few nights. Thx for the inspiration.

  9. Jenna on August 17, 2009 at 10:38 pm

    Hey Gina,
I was just wondering (not to be nosy or anything) why you did not attend the HLS?!

  10. Fitnessista on August 17, 2009 at 10:53 pm

jenna- my crazy schedule wouldn't allow it, especially since i'm leaving for culinary school soon

  11. Emily on August 17, 2009 at 10:55 pm

Haha, I try to skip meat too for my boy and he is always like, "what kind of meat is there?" – it is totally worth trying every now and then though!!

  12. Lainie on August 17, 2009 at 11:03 pm

My husband basically cries if I don't put meat on the table at dinner…I try to trick him into eating vegetarian meals often 🙂 Cute picture of you!!!

hi Gina! This is my first comment on your site, but I have been a massive fan since I discovered The Fitnessista a few weeks ago. You are a great inspiration! I know what you mean – I once tried to get my partner to eat a meat free meal and he was so horrified at the idea he rushed off to the market to purchase five kinds of meat *rolls eyes*. I also wanted to say thank you for your fantastic post on eating – I couldn't agree more – I eat more now than I ever have in my life, and people are constantly marvelling and even name calling because of the amount I eat without putting on weight.

Looking forward to the new blog! When I try to look at the current one at work, I get an error message. Not sure what that's all about!

Did you cook the quinoa for your dinner? I remember we both had not so great experiences with sprouting it. 🙂

My word verification for this post is "foodma." How appropriate. 😀

Me again … I forgot to say this in my previous comment. I would LOVE it if you could elaborate on how you got rid of your cellulite in a future post. Pretty please with a cherry on top! =D

Mallard is a carnivore as well and he ABSOLUTELY notices when his meals lack meat! Aren't they just so very manly?

  20. carolinebee on August 18, 2009 at 12:59 am

I don't like it when juice, wears tights!!!

  21. FromAZ on August 18, 2009 at 12:59 am

    Gina:

I want to start off by saying that you are amazing! I started following your blog about a week ago after I stumbled across it out of my curiousity of the world of raw. I noticed that your biggest life-changer was the south beach diet. I am currently on the south beach diet and am on my 17th day in Phase one and have only lost THREE pounds. I wanted to ask you if you have any tips or advice to give because i always hear of girls who lose at least 15 pounds in the first 2 weeks? I am not overweight in any way but need to get back into shape after a school slump.

    I appreciate your response!

Hey Gina! Looking forward to seeing your self hosted home when it's ready – I am forever going back and forth from your site for recipes and playlists for a little inspiration 🙂
It was interesting reading the comments about men & meat. I admire all you guys who make separate meals especially for your guys!

  23. dirtyduck on August 18, 2009 at 4:10 am

in pic 6 is that a roasting pan with holes in it for a bbq? i have been looking into getting one of those, and if veggies look like THAT when they come out im def gonna get one!

  24. Meg on August 18, 2009 at 4:17 am

I love that all these ladies' husbands demand their meat! Your brother must be an oddball because he will often say things, when we're deciding where to eat for a date, like "Let's eat vegetarian tonight". Gotta love him. Miss you, tell Tommy hello and kiss the puppies for me.

  25. Erica on August 18, 2009 at 5:40 am

hahahhahahah I've started to sneak some meatless meals into Josh's life and he doesn't complain…much 😉 As long as I keep it to like 1x per week hes ok.

  26. Lauren on August 18, 2009 at 7:20 am

My hubby would say the same thing. Funny how they immediately notice when the meat is missing from their plates, but try to get them to notice a new outfit or hair cut and they are clueless! 🙂 Oh boys!! 🙂

Glad you had a great day beautiful girl.

  27. just me on August 18, 2009 at 8:31 am

and boys will be boys..thank goodness mine is veg…instead of meat he always asks where the beans are! hahah

  28. shelby on August 18, 2009 at 8:33 am

Love your mediterannian style feast! I had a lot of the same foods yesterday!

  29. CaSaundraLeigh on August 18, 2009 at 9:50 am

Sounds like my dad–he always knows when the meat is missing! I tried to fool him with Boca crumbles–it almost worked 🙂

  30. lookingforserenity on August 18, 2009 at 10:16 am

  31. Krista on August 18, 2009 at 11:22 am

My hubby thinks he hasn't eaten if he doesn't have meat in his meal. Baby! 😀

Your classes sound like loads of fun!

  32. buffmuffy on August 18, 2009 at 1:44 pm
