Here it goes again

Heyyyyy 😀 Happy almost-Friday! This week is going by fast.. I like it! I’m just counting the days until the pilot is back 😀

I hate to be a complainer on the bloggy, but I’m officially sick. You guys know I’ve been fighting something since last week, but I think staying up all night with Bella while she was sick was a kick in my immune system. As of last night, I feel like death. I went and taught Zumba (took it EASY) and then came home to make one of my favorite fast dinners.

I sautéed some spiralized zucchini with garlic, sweet onion and red pepper flakes:

noodles

Topped with some organic marinara sauce and fresh basil:

spaghetti

Served with some roasted eggplant slices:

eggieplant

And nature’s cough syrup (aka Shiraz)

vinoooo

And fell asleep reading Time Traveler’s Wife with the puppers <3

This morning, I woke up to a lovely bfast cookie (this one had carob in it)

snowmancookie

And I was beyond stoked to go for a run since my iPizzle was resurrected from the dead. At the suggestion of some emails and comments I received, I went to the Apple site and followed their directions to reset my iPod. It worked like a charm. And saved me $50 since I didn’t have to buy a new one!! Ballerrrrrrrrrrrr.

So I took my iPizzle, fully loaded with new tunes to the base trail and started to run. The fact that I had a tissue in hand was probably a good indicator that I shouldn’t do it, along with the fact that my booty is KILLIN me from yesterday’s leg workout. Usually I have no problem working out when I’m a little sore, but every pound on the pavement was a jolting pain in each booty cheek. Pair that with feeling like an elephant is standing on my face, and I decided to call it quitsies on running. I needed something with little to no impact. So I went inside and did 30 minutes of speed intervals on the stairmaster (evil contraption) and 15 minutes on the elliptical with the new issue of Women’s Health. Perfect.

I took a showa and the plan is to lay down and drink tea for most of the day.

See ya latah, bloggies.

xoxo,

G

Today’s tip: Some sources say it’s ineffective to work out while reading. I totally disagree! If you can do it safely, I say do it. It’s much better to hop on the elliptical or treadmill with a magazine than to not get on at all! If magazines are your motivation –they are for me on my non-teaching days!- then go for it 😀 Just make sure you break and sweat and get your heart thumping.

That dish looks dang good! And I have got to make me one of those breakfast cookies! I agree, I cannot make it thru an elliptical session w/out a mag or a tv show to watch.
    Hope you feel better soon!

I really need to get a spiralizer, especially since I love zucchini so much.

    Hope you feel better girl!

  4. Jenny on October 29, 2009 at 11:26 am

I had no idea there was a machine capable of making noodles out of zucchini. My mind is blown. 😉 Take it easy! Hope you feel better soon!!

Awww hope you feel better soon! I’m not sick but my allergies are acting up like crazy lately, making me a sneezing wheezing mess! All the flowers and trees are blooming here now so as much as I like all the beautiful color, I don’t like the side effects.

That sauted zucchini dish looks AMAZING, exactly like what I wish I could have for dinner tonight. Too bad we are out of zucchs! Love adding red pepper flakes, always a great topping to anything.

I wish I could read while I workout. I am a huge book lover and always have my nose stuck in a book…unless I’m on a cardio machine! I get dizzy and feel sick if I do that. And if I watch TV I get lazy and don’t workout hard enough. So, I stick to rockin’ some tunes!

The zucchini dish you made looked wonderful and what a great idea instead of using pasta! I will definitley have to try.

Hope you are feeling better soon & with that I have a quick question – I’ve been fighting the flu all week and really feel “out of sorts” without my normal workout routine that I have going on, with that being said, How much should you workout whenever you are sick? I’m on the road to recovery and want to get out for a run so bad I can barely stand it! Any tips?

BTW – Love your blog, becomming an avid reader everyday! 🙂

    Heeellloo!
I’m completely new to your site…and I’m loving it btw. You’re adorable (mean it!)
The spiralized zucchini dish that you posted today – is that all zucchini or are their some noodles in the dish too? If so, you which noodles do you use?
Also, would you be able to post a pictures of the “joy chen” tools that you used…I tried finding it online but was a little unsure of which model.
Keep up the awesome work, loving your blog and hope that you feel better!! 🙂

so the zuchini noodles…consistency wise.. they look like noodles but how are they really?

comparable to spaghetti squash? more noodley… it looks interesting but I have a hard eating veggies that look like 1 thing (noodles) but taste like another.

for example, i could never stomach “mashed cauliflower” as a substitue for mashed potatoes.

    • Fitnessista on October 29, 2009 at 1:51 pm

hmmm.. they definitely still taste like zucchini but have the consistency of angel hair pasta. i’m the same way, but love zucchini like this!

  24. Megan on October 29, 2009 at 1:48 pm

I love zucchini mixed in with my pasta but cutting it up thinly takes forevvvvs. So jealous of your spiralizer!! Feel better!

  25. Felicia on October 29, 2009 at 2:04 pm

Feel better soon!! I’m so impressed that you made such a fab dinner while sick.

  26. Sarah @ The Foodie Diaries on October 29, 2009 at 3:04 pm

Agreed that reading can be doing while workout out; unless you are me, in which case you fall off the elliptical during mag seshies WAY TOO FREQUENTLY. embarrassing.

    hope you feel better!

    • Fitnessista on October 29, 2009 at 3:30 pm

hahah oh no! that’s why i emphasize the “safely” part 😉

Hope you feel better! Your bfast cookie looks EXTRA delicious today!

  28. Courtney F on October 29, 2009 at 5:09 pm

I have to read while exercise otherwise I would torture myself. Reading gets me away from the pain and realization of how sweaty I am getting.
Take care! You definately need a rest!

  29. Erin on October 29, 2009 at 6:50 pm

Awwh Mrs Pilot! I’m so sorry you’re officially illin…what a drag. I love your fluid of choice. I think it’s really aprops. Please rest up and enjoy some TV.
True story: when my dad had his first colonoscopy last year, he drank wine the night before, reasoning that it was basically grape juice 😉 This was after fasting all day and being told that he could drink “clear fluids.” Dad loves to party!

Oh You actually teach Zumba!!! I’m so surprised to find the zumba coach here! 😀 that’s my favorite sport and I can never get enough of it!

I love that zucchini noodles;)At first I thought it’s with real noodle, but then I find out it’s only zucchini!! Thanks for the creation!I’ll definitely try it out!

Hope you feel better on these cold days, take care

  31. Melissa S. on October 29, 2009 at 9:48 pm

I’ve been meaning to buy a spiralizer for ages (after first reading your blog a good few months ago) and you have reminded me to get on and do it! Not sure spiralizers are that abundant in the UK, in the same way that healthy food seems to be pretty sparse too, but I will endeavour to find one. Thanks for the reminder!

    • Fitnessista on October 30, 2009 at 9:38 am

maybe you can order online if you can’t find one?? i’d check asian grocery stores/markets for one, but if not, there are a ton to choose from online!

  33. Jessica on October 30, 2009 at 11:23 am

W-w-w-wonderful looking zuchinni dish! You were my inspiration to get a spiralizer and I LOVE it! (When I saw your picture of spiralized beet salad I knew I had to have it!).

Thanks for the great ideas! Love your blog!
