haha! I wouldn't say I hate gum with a fiery passion, but I have almost dropped a class in college b/c there were gum chewers in there. By that I mean people that popped gum loudly and cracked gum. Ugh! It is one of my pet peeves for sure. I promise I'm not crazy! *deep breaths*

I chew cinnamon Spry and love it. I've heard the 'increase concentration' rumor too, so I chew when I study or have to take a test and hope that its working its magic.

I used to REALLY chew gum, a pack of day like you. Now I go through a pack a week. I use it for similar reasons you did- boredom, and after meals to avoid over-eating or snacking too much. I have a love hate relationship with it. I hate that it's fake, but I almost can't live without it!

Hi Gina,
I on occasion buy natural gum from the health food store or Whole Foods. I usually end up making ginger or mint tea instead of gum, I feel like it has the same effect as chewing gum in that it helps clean my palette:)

*raises hand* I'm a HUGE gum chewer! I quit smoking 7 years ago and ever since chew at least a pack a day. I never gained any weight and attribute that to the gum chewing. Some times my jaw aches from constant chewing but it keeps me from snacking too much and it was my success to quitting the cancer sticks.

I used to be a gum addict before I cleaned up my eating about 4 years ago. I remember even "sneakingly" chewing gum in class back in high school. I was so obsessed that as soon as a piece lost it's flavor, I'd get a new one. Stride and Orbit fruit flavors were my favorite. I think I used it as my "sugar fix" to keep from eating other things. The only problem was, when I went off it I was constantly craving sugar all the time! I agree there are much worse things in life than a chewing some gum... we can be putting much worse into our bodies (gum isn't even ingested all the way anyway) and I also think people shouldn't get so fanatical they won't allow one "un-clean" food/treat into their lives. I really like your attitude about not worrying too much. We aren't all perfect and stressing about those things is just as unhealthy!!
Love the b-nut fries, I have been having them so much lately! Nom Nom.

I chewed so much gum in high school my jaw started popping all the time and one time it popped out of joint- which was incredibly painful. So I have long since ditched my gum habit.
However, I took a defensive driving class and chewing gum was listed as something you can do to help you pay attention while driving if you're tired.
