Comfy Green Chair

Hey guys :D

Holler from the comfy green chair

green chair

I’m chillin’ here at Bizzle, doing the computer work thang for a few hours. I like to think the green chair is lucky :)

I LOVED reading your comments about whether your kids [will] eat like you do. I agreed with so many of you guys who said that attitude about food is so important. It’s crucial to make sure kids have a healthy attitude about food and not feel like anything is “forbidden”. Instead, it’s a great idea to surround them with the good, healthy stuff and not freak out when the not-so-healthy kid food sneaks in. I had a pop tart every day for maybe 10 years of my life (S’mores flavor is the best, btw haha) –  I’m still alive and kickin’ :)

Today’s Insanity workout was a little rough. I didn’t sleep well last night, so even though it woke me up a little, it was *extra hard*. We did it, though and I felt like GOLD when it was over!

My protein pancakes were also too hard…

I tried using more flour to see what it would do, and it was a bad idea. Come on, perfect protein pancake! I’m so close….

I took the puppers for a walk on base, then came home for some lunchin’.

I’m gonna get back to work so I can work more party this weekend but I hope ya’ll have a great night <3

xoxo,

Gina

Today’s tip: This weekend, buy a fruit or vegetable that you’ve never tried before. If your produce section doesn’t have anything new-to-you, buy an old fave a do a spin on how you’d usually prepare it (serving it savory instead of sweet and vise versa.. foodnetwork.com and google will help ya out). You may find a new produce love :)

  1. i like your little arrangement of the sweet potato disks and goat cheese! it’s like super healthy yummy nachos :)

  2. Last week I bought turnips and made the nut butter fries inspired by Angela @ Oh She Glows. They were so delicious, I can’t believe I haven’t had them ever before. Also I tried beets in my juices and am now obsessed! Hope you get lots of work done!

  3. I used to eat the cinnamon sugar pop tarts every morning! I can’t imagine doing that anymore:)

  4. hahahah i have a feeling you’re going to be eating pancakes everyday until you get it right! and yes, smores was by far the best! also, i have fresh chives growing in my garden and i throw them in EVERYTHING! especially egg whites in the morning =) happy weekend gina!

  5. My mom used to let me pick out a special fruit when we’d go grocery shopping when I was young. It was the first time I tried a pomello (which I also discovered is not a favorite). I think this is a great idea for parents, I thought it was so special and adventurous when she would let me choose a new fruit.

  6. I know I still need to try fresh beets, they look so pretty spiralized. Maybe I will like them that way.

  7. I’ve always wanted to try starfruit. Can you believe I’ve never tried it before?!

  8. I thought I hated brussels sprouts until I found out about roasting them while watching Ina Garten on Food Network a couple of years ago. I tried roasting them and now they’re one of my favorite vegetables.

Totally agree with the balanced approach to food. I don’t stock junk and candy in the house on a regular basis, but if one of my kids asks for a box of Cap’n Crunch or a bag of Doritos now and then I buy it for them. They’re 18, 15 & 12 now and have great attitudes toward food. Nine times out of 10 they will snack on fruit or vegetables dipped in hummus, or kale chips (they have been known to fight over kale chips) so if they have a PopTart once in a while, I’m pretty sure they’ll make it out alive.

  9. Ha! Smore’s flavor was the best! :-)

  10. I’m looking forward to your perfect protein pancake! I’ve been waiting ever since you mentioned it. :p

I tried a new veggie the other day! It was that broccoli stuff. Looks like broccoli except it’s long and skinny. I can’t remember it’s name. :/

  11. What salad dressing do you use, Gina?

Also, I’ve never seen your back, but I’m guessing it’s bangin’. ;-) What exercises do you do for your back, specifically?

    • Fitnessista says:

      here’s the dressing recipe: http://fitnessista.com/2010/04/pardon-me/
right now, i’m not weight lifting because we’re doing insanity, but i think the best back exercises are:
      bent over flys (rear delts)
lat pulldowns (lats, a little bit of biceps)
stability ball back extensions (lower back)
      and seated rows
      xoxo :)

  22. Sooooooo funny, s’mores pop tarts are the best!! I saw them in the store the other day and came so close to buying them. I might just have to do that now that I have crazy stress-inducing finals next week. I can pair them with some healthy stuff, like a green monster! :) Have a great weekend Gina!

  24. GAH!! I’m not usually the hugest fan of sweet potatoes, but that goat cheese/chive thang you got hapnin’ looks FABULOUS!

So I have a question for you: are there “healthy” foods you dislike but want to find a way to enjoy? For example, I really don’t like bananas or sweet potatoes, but I would really like to find a way to enjoy them. I managed to do this with squash and tomatoes and now I’m hooked, but I can’t seem to replicate the process with ‘naners or sweet potatoes. Any thoughts, trials or tricks that have worked for you? Have you even dealt with this before? Am I totally nuts? ;-)

    I love your blog!
    Kristin

  25. I think I’m going to try those turnip fries everyone is talking about! Yumm :)

  26. Did you change your header?? Maybe I’m crazy but it looks different to me. I don’t remember the blades of grass on the right side.

Thanks for today’s tip. I’m gonna do that this weekend!

  27. Smores was my favorite Poptart as well. I remember loving those and toaster strudels with the icing. Did you ever have those?

  28. I love working in comfy coffee shop chairs :)
I just saw your last post and, really randomly, I JUST wrote a post about that. Here’s the link, if you want to stop by.

Hi Fitnessista, the other day you were asking what blogs we like. I found one recently that I thought you’d like: http://korasoi.blogspot.com/. She’s from UK and cooks a lot of vegetarian Indian food. Have a good weekend!

Okay so I don’t know if this would be a “perfect protein pancake” but I saw this on a blog that I came across (I don’t even know who’s blog it was) and they were so amazing when I made them at home! Here’s the recipe:
    4 Egg Whites
    1/2c Oatmeal
    1/4c Fat-free Cottage Cheese
    1/4 Banana
    Dash of Cinnamon
    Dash of Nutmeg
    Dash of Stevia or Sweetener

Mix all of the ingredients in a blender or a Magic Bullet.
Cook just like you would a regular pancake.
Spray I can’t Believe It’s Not Butter Spray and top with Sugar-free Syrup,Agave, Jam, or peanut butter
This morning I added sliced Strawberries to it and it made it taste even better.
Don’t forget the Banana… it takes away the egg taste and makes it taste even more like a real pancake! and sometimes I use the rest of the banana, slice it and put on top of pancakes.
This recipe is supposed to make 8-9 medium pancakes but when I made it I only got 4 small or 2 medium pancakes.
So obviously it is only enough for 1 person so if you have a husband or kids you probably will need to double it!
It seriously took me 10 minutes and I love it because I don’t really enjoy eating eggs for breakfast!
Also, you get the protein and fiber you need to kick-start your day!
I have fallen in love with this recipe and have been obsessed with it! Yum Yum!

My breakfast in highschool was one of the options as follows, every day, no deviations.

    1. A (white, normal size…ie a bajillion calories and white carbs) bagel toasted then, while still hot, smeared with gobs of peanut butter (ie now that I know what a serving of PB would look like, I probably had a good…3 servings slathered on there) and covered with chocolate chips (the chocolate would melt and holy crap was the whole thing tasty)
    2. Brown-sugar cinnamon pop-tarts
    3. mcdonalds hash brown and biscuit

All washed down with a 20 oz or larger real Dr.Pepper.

Seriously Gina, seriously. The crazy part was I was about the same size as I am now, only with drastically different body composition. I can’t even fathom putting that shizz in my mouth now, but it was fun to remember the glory days

  34. I have my fingers crossed you perfect your protein pancakes and post the recipe on here so I can steal it LOL!

  35. I just bought parsnips for the first time last week, and bought one again this week, so I’m still experimenting with a new to me veggie.

I bet you’ll get your protein pancakes just perfect, even if you have to eat them every day for a month :)

  36. Sweet potato and goat cheese sounds GOOD!!!
And I love trying new fruits and veggies! :D

  37. I might have to try that sweet potato/goat cheese thing you’ve got going on there, looks awesome!! I don’t know how anyone (aka my mom) can not like goat cheese? It’s sooo Yummmmmm.
