Dear Running

Dear Running,

After our long and torrid relationship of steamy and triumphant “ups” (two half marathons and a grip of races)

race

and miserable “downs” (Like hurting my knee and I couldn’t do anything for two weeks… and was a giant stress ball)

moji (6)

I’ve decided that we’re better off as friends.

Having to be without you for the past month made me realize that I really don’t miss you as much as I thought I would.

I’m not saying I won’t come around anymore

me

or that we can’t occasionally do the things we used to

IMG00014-20100103-1414

but to be honest, you never really were my favorite… you make me feel good so I kept you around.

Right now, I’m having a blasty doing other things :)

I’m excited to keep up with Insanity and when the program is over, jump into other things I adore, like yoga and spinning.

Thanks again for all of the free medals and shirts.

Gina

LOVE your post. Sometimes it’s best to distance yourself from an activity that causes so much heartache. There are many other alternatives out there!

Heheh cute post. glad you don’t feel the pressure like you “have” to run. It’s no secret you’re a spinning/zumba goddess! :)

I love running more than (almost) anything else in the world but not listening to your body, I’ve learned gets you into trouble. And then you can’t run OR do other activities (Insanity, spinning, Zumba, etc.)

So good for you for listening to your bod :) :)

I needed to see this today! I have a love hate relationship with running…I missed it for the several months I took off but now, having been training harder again for a relay event (this weekend!), my body is ready for a break again. Hiking, scuba, zumba, YOGA, they all are missing the time running takes away.

I’m so glad to see this!
I have an ebb and flow with running and sometimes feel like since I used to love it, I have to love it every second of the day now which just isn’t true.
Thank you for being honest (with yourself and with everyone else) enough to say you don’t want to run right now. AND IT’S OKAY!

Do what you love babe; the running will always be there, since I can’t imagine you’re going to throw your shoes away. ;)

    Ginaaaaaa! Love this.

I can work out like a BOSS, but running has never been my thing. It’s frustrating at times, because I really would like to be a runner…but whatev. I’ll stick to my 2 to 3 mile treadmill runs and be happy with ‘em. :)

So funny that I’m reading this today as I finished a 10k today that I half-assed trained for. I decided a couple of weeks ago that I would “break up with running” after this 10k when I was at the gym foam rolling and I was watching this girl lift weights and I thought, I wish that was me. I’m just done with the training programs and committing myself to something I don’t love. Random three mile runs? Sure, okay! Half marathon training? Boo.

That’s so funny — I wrote a note to running on my blog a few months ago and it felt GREAT!

I’m in the exact same boat. I did two half marathons, a handful of 5 and 10Ks and then took an injury break. I’m better now, but the thought of getting back into running is not as exciting as I thought it would be. In the interim, I’ve gotten back into spinning/cycling and classes, which I love love love.

Like you, I’m glad I accomplished what I did through running but it’s time for a new challenge!

I am having knee problems and am considering breaking up with running too, but I don’t want to miss out on fun races and such :(

I don’t know.. it is like the shLtastic boyfriend who treats you like crap, yet you keep going back to him for more. I can’t stay away!!!!!

I’ve just come to a similar conclusion. We may be friends with benefits from time to time, but we’ll keep it casual for the most part.

I feel the exact same way. I’m competing in the Country Music Marathon this Saturday and I find myself dreading it. It’s my first marathon and I should be so excited, but I’m looking forward to the week afterwards where I’m not ALLOWED to run and I have to spin, swim, and walk.

Running gave me my life back after a really horrible long-term relationship and breakup and I look forward to loving it again, but I’m also looking forward to a bit of a break…

I have always LOVED running and somedays are more like a spiritual experience than a workout. I live for those days, but lets be honest, there are plenty of days where it is no fun at all. Somedays, its just motivation issues, other days I just need to pursue my other interests. Biking has been my other passion and I’ve found that days I don’t feel like running, biking is the perfect antidote. Still gets my heart pumping and my body feels strong, but none of the impact of running.

I JUST became obsessed with Insanity and temporarily gave up running to complete the program. I miss running terribly but not as much as I thought I would and I LOVE Insanity!
