Pardon Me….

… do you have any Grey Poupon?? 😀

grey poupon

I have been mustard crazy lately. Not sure what happened but it tastes SO good right now! I’ve always loved it but it’s been a neglected condiment in my life. Never fear, mustard is back, yo.

Slathered on millet bread:

Even in my salad:

Which brings us to the Garlic Meal of the Day! We’ll call it G-MOD for short 😉

garlic

(Thank you for the garlic container, Jeni!)

To celebrate National Garlic Week, I thought it would be fun to feature some delicious new uses for garlic and go over the healthy benefits.

I bring you the G-MOD:

Garlic Meal of the Day #1

salad

Salad with Creamy Dijon Basil Dressing and Millet Croutons

*AKA The dressing that will change your life

-1 slice millet

-romaine + arugula (or greens of choice)

-Garlic Gold olive oil

-Garlic Gold Italian Herb seasoning (or you can use Italian seasoning and garlic powder)

-Oregano

-Thyme

-2 T Dijon mustard

-1/8-1/4 C almond milk

-1/4 C fresh basil

-Garlic bites for garnish

1. Pre-heat the oven to 350 and spray a small pan (I used a metal round pan) with Garlic Gold olive oil (or oil of choice).

2. Cut up a slice of millet bread (or bread of choice) into small cubes and place the bread cubes onto the pan. Spray with more olive oil and season well with Italian seasoning + garlic (or the Italian herb seasoning), oregano and sea salt.

3. Bake the croutons for about 10 minutes (keep an eye on them) until crispy and perfect.

4. While the croutons are a-baking, make the dressing that will change your life forever. In the food processor combine the Dijon mustard, almond milk, 1/4 T oregano, 1/2 t thyme, sea salt (to taste) and the basil. Blend until smooth and transfer the dressing to a large-ish salad bowl.

5. Top the dressing with chopped romaine and greens of choice, toss to coat.

6. Top salad with crunchy Garlic Gold bites (for extra pizazz) and the croutons. Eat some from your palm if you’re like me.

Something to talk about: Are you a garlic fan or notsomuch? What’s your favorite way to use garlic? I LOVE garlic and my favorite use for it is in well, everything. It’s not a savory meal if it doesn’t have some garlic in there 😉 And yes, I brush my teeth a lot and invest in multiple packs of Spry gum 😀

Something to do: Keep those *spark* stories coming.. I love reading them 🙂

Raw carrots dipped in spicy mustard is awesome. Just thought you should know.

And I’m a garlic hater. I’m Italian, so it’ basically sacrilegious, but I can’t help it. It makes my stomach hurt so much!

  2. Heather (Heather's Dish) on April 20, 2010 at 5:49 pm

i don’t know if there are words that describe my love of all things garlic. i use it in and on everything (minus desserts), and i just count myself as blessed that my hubby loves it just as much! that way we can makeout with garlic breath and no one notices 😉

    • Fitnessista on April 20, 2010 at 5:51 pm

  3. Nicole @ Making Good Choices on April 20, 2010 at 5:50 pm

Oh my gosh, I could eat garlic and mustard every single day! I’ve been known to just dip lettuce leaves into stone ground mustard as a snack! 😉

    Love the haircut!

    1. I love me some grey poupon. I like to use it as a marinade for pretty much any meat.

    2. Your hair is super cute. I think I remember reading that you have really thick hair (me too!) and you give me hope that if I can get past the weird shoulder length poofy poodle stage I’ll be golden.

    3. I loooove garlic. It goes in every savory meal, and I could eat garlic on my garlic. I may have to indulge in some Garlic Gold.

    • Fitnessista on April 20, 2010 at 7:45 pm

yes my hair is SUPAH thick. my stylist thins it out a lot when i get it cut and it makes it so much more manageable. like today, i only got an inch off, but it looked like a small animal on the floor 🙂

  9. Jenny on April 20, 2010 at 6:31 pm

Hey, pretty lady! I like your hurr… and I love me some garlic:)

  10. Jessica @ How Sweet It Is on April 20, 2010 at 6:46 pm

    • Fitnessista on April 20, 2010 at 7:44 pm

garlic mustard? *swoon* i need to get my hands on some of that!

  11. Sarah on April 20, 2010 at 6:48 pm

Yup, I love me some garlic in everything. I always at least double the amount of garlic called for in the recipe. It’s just SO delicious.

PS Your hair looks super cute!

  13. Lauren @ eater not a runner on April 20, 2010 at 6:50 pm

I’m with you, it’s not savory without garlic! I even like I roasted on it’s own but that is the stinkiest way 😉

    • Fitnessista on April 20, 2010 at 7:39 pm

ahhhh it’s SO good roasted though!

  14. Allison @ Food For Healing on April 20, 2010 at 6:50 pm

garlic is awesome, especially on shrimp!

  15. Katie on April 20, 2010 at 6:50 pm

Love garlic oh so much. My favorite way is to saute it with olive oil to add tons of flavor to veggies- broccoli, asparagus, mushrooms, tomatoes, potatoes, brussels… pretty much any and all.

  16. thedelishdish on April 20, 2010 at 6:54 pm

i really wish i was a bigger fan of garlic but i just can’t handle that much of it. i am crazy about mustard tho!! love that grey poupon!

  17. janetha on April 20, 2010 at 7:07 pm

hey, i have that same garlic holder! and yesterday was national garlic day! xo

  18. Dee on April 20, 2010 at 7:14 pm

I don’t print out every recipe that looks delicious just because I’d be overwhelmed with the piles of paper, so when I saw this recipe I was going to pass. Then I read the line, The dressing that will change your life, and it made me print it out because how could I NOT try a recipe that could potentially change my life? Or, at least tasted so good that someone would describe it like that! LOL! 🙂

    • Fitnessista on April 20, 2010 at 7:38 pm

haha! well i hope it lives up to expectations – changed my life for sure 🙂

  19. nicole on April 20, 2010 at 7:16 pm

wow. we are on the same wavelength. recently i’m obsessed with dijon mustard and spicy brown mustard. i recently strayed from grey poupon and tried the trader joe’s dijon and it has a serious tear-inducing kick. but i love it. 🙂

i am also seriously obsessed with all things garlic (much to my hubby’s shagrin) since i incorporate it into nearly every meal. gotta keep breath mints and sugar-free gum on hand!

and you hair looks lovely. i’m in the long and tedious process of growing mine out so it’s nice to see your mane as inspiration.

  20. kristi (sweet cheeks) on April 20, 2010 at 7:30 pm

cute cut! And i am definitely going to be making that salad recipe, sounds fab. I have actually been on a mustard kick lately too. Mmmmm!

  21. Kaitlin on April 20, 2010 at 7:48 pm

I LOVE mustard, I could honestly eat it on everything! I’ve never used it on my pasta before, I’ll have to try it soon!

  22. Erica on April 20, 2010 at 7:52 pm

  42. Lori H on April 21, 2010 at 6:06 am

Nice cut! BTW, I am in love with mustard as well. I love to use the Mild & Creamy Grey Poupon as an emulsifier in a quick dressing I put on salads. Basically, A couple of tablespoons of creamy digon, minced garlic, red wine vinegar, or champagne vinegar. Whisk together and yum! To change it up, sometimes I add lemon zest to the mix, or half a packet of stevia with orange zest. Very versatile, super easy and quite addictive!. I love reading your blog! : )

  43. Angela @ A Healthy Fit on April 21, 2010 at 7:57 am

I have a love-hate relationship with garlic. Love the way it tastes, hate the way it tastes LATER.

I LOVE GARLIC. I grow enough to last us the year, fresh, sauteed, in soups, salads, any way really, I love it. My husband says I use so much, he can smell it outside the house if I’m cooking dinner.

  47. Emily N on April 21, 2010 at 8:47 am

Love garlic. I put it in everything. Well, not everything, but lots of stuff. It definitely has a ton of health benefits……and I can tackle the aftermath with a tooth brush and mint tea.

By the way, LOVE the haircut. So becoming!

  48. allison @ livingoneday on April 21, 2010 at 8:52 am

i could put garlic on ANYTHING. and no worries about your mustard cravings!! ive been eating pickles all day long around here. they are just so good and crunchy! and yes, your hair looks fantastic! i, too, have a mane. it doesnt fall nice and smooth like other girls – it has such blunt ends and it doesnt matter how i get it tapered, it will never float and fall gracefully over my shoulders. i keep it short; i think it looks best in a blunt bob – but the bf doesnt always love this style 😉 he has no idea. yours looks GREAT!!
