Desperate Hogwives

Hey! Happy almost-Friday :) How’s your morning going??

Last night, I went up to the squadron to hang out with everyone. When we know the guys are working late, we’ll usually decide on a dinner theme and have each of the wives bring components for it (like if we do meatball subs, some people will bring meatballs, others bring bread, desserts, sides, etc).

The theme for last night was BBQ :) I was delegated the coleslaw, which I’ve never made before, so I consulted the Neely’s and found a *baller recipe*.

The only photo from the evening:

bowl

The bowl the coleslaw was in, and my cup from the Green-a-colada smoothie I sipped on. (I also munched bites of various cookies)

New wives’ shirt:

shirt

(The guys fly the A-10, which is also known as the “hog”)

B-fast this morning was two courses.

One:

juice

Cullen juice minus the carrots (beet, apple and ginjah)

Two:

cereal

B-fast cookie dough cereal!

(I make a b-fast cookie sans banana, then add more almond milk, toppings and sliced banana. Each bite has a “cookie dough” bite- lurve)

I only have one training appointment today (!), which is actually a good thing because we’re having 20 people over for dinner on Saturday – the Pilot is commander of one of the flights and all of them are coming over.

The tentative menu:

-Chicken Enchiladas

-Goat cheese and vegetable Enchiladas (recipe from my brain)

-Green corn tamales (not using shrimp, and stuffing them with green chilies)

-Queso, guacamole and chips

-Chopped salad

-Pico and Chips (from Jeni)

-Tres Leches Cake

-Sangria and Margaritas

I’m off to do the workout thang, grocery shop for ingredients and start making things ahead.

Have a great day! <3

Gina

Today’s tip: Experiment with different types of weights when you workout. Do you usually use dumbbells? Try a barbell. Resistance bands and kettleballs are a fun way to switch things up, too.

Ok I totally laughed out loud at this title!

Your menu sounds so good! I love tres leches cake – I see you are using Alton Brown’s recipe, but I have to tell you that I have made Pioneer Woman’s recipe and it is to die for. Never made Alton’s, but I’m sure it’s delicious too.

it came out AWESOME. definitely try that recipe if it’s your first time making coleslaw– i just used half a cup of sugar instead of a cup and it was perfect

So was the coleslaw recipe good? I have to make coleslaw this weekend too and I’m using a Bobby Flay (B Fizzle?) recipe that had rave reviews.

I’m glad the cole slaw turned out well! I love the t-shirts. For some reason when I read your title I immediately thought of Real Housewives, not Desperate Housewives — I got excited for RHoNJ talk! :)

love the t shirt! :)

I’ve been juicing at home for a week or so, and my go to is carrot apple lime ginger… I’ve been meaning to ask you… why the name “Cullen” juice? I have a feeling I’m missing something here ;)

Reply

Fitnessista July 22, 2010 at 12:07 pm

cullen —> from twilight —-> vampires —-> blood (because it looks like blood) :)

Reply

Kristina July 22, 2010 at 5:21 pm

I THOUGHT SO !! :)

I have not read any / watched any of that… but I am aware of enough of it I suppose, that I somehow knew Cullen was someones name…

:) hee!

Wow, cooking 20 people!! I think I’d have a mini panic attack, ha :) Your menu sounds amazing!! The only green tamales I’ve ever had are the Amy’s frozen meal version, which rocked my face. I can’t imagine how awesome the homemade version is!

Wow, my bro flew the A-10 back in the late 80′s got out right before desert storm when the A-10 was used quite a bit, mixed feelings as he would have liked going over and doing what he always trained to do, but not so much as he had a wife and young kids – went to work for Delta in Hotlanta. Like your shirts!

Girl you’re having 20 people over for dinner?!!! That kind of thing makes me nervous. More than like a dozen and I am like whoa….this is serious! But I know you’ve got skillz and will be cool as a cucumber doing backflips in the kitchen with heels on and a smile and a hair flip, making it look super easy, but of course :)

Ya know one of the things I love most about your blog? Your attention to detail. You took a PICTURE of the BOWL that your cole slaw was in. THAT is COOL! I do that in my new blog, too. Hoping it will have as many readers as yours someday yonder….! Never really realized how much FUN keeping a daily blog is. Already TOTALLY addicted.
Anyway, thanks for the great posts. I enjoy them thoroughly!
