Sometimes

Hey guys! How are ya? Hope you’ve had a wonderful day so far. Thanks for the awesome feedback on the Reader’s Request post– I loved hearing about your fave healthier drinks.

Sometimes….

I use a salad beast as a means to consume a ridiculous amount of dressing

salad

Instead of making a real pizza crust, I use pita

egg pizza

An egg is the perfect topping

egg pizza (2)

Unless you’re the pilot….

pizza crust

In which case, meats, cheese + stuffed crust will do 😉

Sometimes…

Bella transports her food and eats it off the leg of the pilot’s flight suit, which hangs on the staircase from the second he gets home

I eat dessert, not because I’m hungry, but because it tastes really good

icecream

Always…

You have to do always what’s best for you.. even if it’s difficult, sad, or if it means packing up your life and moving somewhere the next time your husband will be gone for a while. (More info on that within the next couple of weeks)

I’ve off to make macaroons and marinara, then train clients <3

See ya after bootcamp!

xoxo,

Gina

  5. Rachel on July 15, 2010 at 11:48 am

That’s so cute that Bella does that haha. Dogs are so precious.

I can’t wait to hear about your move. I’m an Army girlfriend and it’s extremely difficult…hopefully this means you can be closer to your family 🙂

I feel the same way about dessert. 🙂

LOVE this post, Gina. Sometimes…I think people forget that we have one life to live 😉 Doing what’s right for it is what’s best. Hugs for decisions you have to make & many kudos for always keeping it real!

I loved this post! It was different from your usual (which I always enjoy, though) and I loved reading it! A lot of them made me laugh (like the Pilot’s Pizza Hut box). And it is very true about dessert. I’m never hungry but I always have it, haha.

  10. Jessica @ How Sweet on July 15, 2010 at 11:53 am

I think the Pilot and I would get along fabulously. I love stuffed-crust pizza.

    • Fitnessista on July 15, 2010 at 11:55 am

hahah i’m pretty sure you two are eating soulmates. this is why i can never let him see your blog and the delicious desserts you make all the time 😉

Great post.. your blog is one of the first things I read in the morning and it always makes my day that much more inspired 🙂

  13. Courtney @ Three Months on July 15, 2010 at 11:54 am

My 3 year old daughter was sitting with me as I was reading your blog post today and when I was on the picture of your ice cream she said, “piggy” She sees a pig face shape in your ice cream, like making shapes out clouds. So here’s a challenge for you, can you find the pig face in your ice cream? Hint: just look for the snout in the middle. LOL

  17. Mandy A on July 15, 2010 at 12:17 pm

    LOVE this post.

    Good luck with the move!

  18. Jackie (Army Wife Extraordinaire) on July 15, 2010 at 12:22 pm

I did something similiar to your last suggestion when my husband was deployed for 13 months and I came home from Germany. Being overseas without my husband was too much during a deployment. Other wives didn’t understand but I did what was best for me and never regretted it.

    • Fitnessista on July 15, 2010 at 12:23 pm

so good to know. i feel bad ditching out on my friends and the other wives, but i think i’ll go crazy if i stay here

      • Jackie (Army Wife Extraordinaire) on July 15, 2010 at 1:12 pm

That’s exactly how I felt, the guilt of leaving but in the end all I wanted was my husband to support my decision (which he did 100%) and to stay sane. I sincerely believe that it makes a deployed husband feel so much better to know you are in a place of love, support and happiness while he is away.

  19. Sarah on July 15, 2010 at 12:22 pm

Hope the move and transition go well, hang in there! I agree that doing what is best for you is the way to go 🙂

  20. Tina on July 15, 2010 at 12:24 pm

I’m intrigued by the move info. I couldn’t imagine having my husband gone so much, but I know it’s all part of life for some and we are thankful for those who do that work.

  21. Alicia on July 15, 2010 at 12:29 pm

Sounds like a deployment…I’m sorry to hear that. You are a wonderful, strong and smart woman and will get through this with flying colors, even if it means packing up your life and moving somewhere else. You’re always welcome to come to lovely California, I’m sure there are plenty of people that would be honored to have you stay with them. 🙂 <3 While you go through this rough time…and sometimes ice cream makes everything better.

  22. Julie @ Pickley Pear on July 15, 2010 at 12:44 pm

Good luck with the future. You have to be selfish in situations like that – do what is best for you at that time.
I eat dessert. I need something sweet after meals 🙂

  23. Heather (Heather's Dish) on July 15, 2010 at 12:44 pm

i feel like this is a really beautifully written post…and it’s awesome that you do all of those things because you love to, and don’t do anything because you feel you have to!

    thinking of you guys!

  24. Rosey Rebecca on July 15, 2010 at 12:53 pm

Ooh so excited to hear about the move! Pita pizzas sound delicious!

  25. Carrie on July 15, 2010 at 12:56 pm

Are you moving to another country?! That’s what I always assume when someone talks about moving. I may be facing a temp. move to Israel someday soon for my husband to get a PHd, though neither of us are Jewish. The things we do for our husbands.

  26. Angela @ Eat Spin Run Repeat on July 15, 2010 at 12:58 pm

I agree when you say you should always do what’s best for you – even when it’s hard. Can’t wait to hear more about the move. I’m sure whatever happens, everything will turn out fine coz you’re awesome! 🙂

  27. jen on July 15, 2010 at 12:59 pm

I have an Air Force pilot too! :). I’ve never commented but I just wanted to say I did the same thing last time. He deployed over the winter and holidays and I went home to family. Now he is deployed again and I have stayed but by choice although alot of wives leave every time. SO dont feel bad! At the end of the day all that matters is that you are happy and everyone else will understand. Love love the blog!

  28. Paige (Running Around Normal) on July 15, 2010 at 1:08 pm

Love how you keep it real, girlfriend:) Everything will shake out ok. You’re a very strong woman!

  29. Ellen on July 15, 2010 at 1:10 pm

What is that dessert you made?!
I’m assuming protein ice-cream, but it looks like it could also be banana “soft serve” with some PB blended in as well.

    • Fitnessista on July 15, 2010 at 2:47 pm

it was protein ice cream 🙂

  30. Tracey @ I'm Not Superhuman on July 15, 2010 at 1:11 pm

I don’t know how you do it, honestly. I’d have to live so close to my family if my husband was deployed all the time. I think doing what’s right for you is so so important in your case.

  31. Averie (LoveVeggiesAndYoga) on July 15, 2010 at 1:13 pm

You always have a place to stay in San Diego…always. 🙂

Scott is gone about as much as the Pilot and you can stay in my house in our guest room, we can make raw food together, go to yoga together, go lift together and as long as we play barbies for at least 30 mins per day and read a few ABC books, we can go shopping too 🙂

    xoxo

    • Sarah Anne on July 15, 2010 at 2:18 pm

Oh I just can’t imagine the mayhem you three would get into together! Between both your cooking/un-cooking it’d be a dreamy little holiday! (And, the blogworld would be blown away by your co-creations!)

    • Fitnessista on July 15, 2010 at 2:45 pm

um that would pretty much rock my world 🙂 maybe i can come visit while he’s gone???

    • Averie (LoveVeggiesAndYoga) on July 16, 2010 at 2:34 am

Sorry just came back to check comments, a little late here 🙂 but oh yeah girl you can come out anytime!

I would love to have you and so would Skylar! For a 3 yr old, she’s a great little raw food connoisseur and shopper (priorities haha!). Seriously though, anytime. I live 2 city blocks from TJ,s 6 blocks from WF’s, and on my block there is I’m not kidding 7 sushi restaurants, Indian, Ethiopian, 5 gay bars, a dollar store, a liquor store, and 2 coffee shops. That’s just my 1 city block. So we’d have plenty to keep us busy when we’re not off yoga’ing it up!

      xoxo

The Pilot and My hubby should have din together….my hubby calls me “The Vegan” even though I am not really a full vegan…but he thinks most of my food is weird, and sometimes gets his own take out. I feel like us women should start a club, to save money on food, haha..our men can eat their meat and potatoes and be happy, and we can eat our “vegan” food, haha.

My cousin is marrying a marine captain (or whatev they call the officers)in Dec, great guy. He if off for training overseas now til Aug, then right after their wedding he will be gone for 7 months. She is not doing so great with it, I can’t imagine how hard it must be. Any words of wisdom I could give her from someone with experience??? Maybe not? No matter what anyone says I am sure it’s just plain tough…they both have said that they appreciate each other more, and that lovely dovey stuff hasn’t fizzled out yet (even though, I know they are not married yet…but have been together a long time.)

  33. Jessica P. on July 15, 2010 at 1:18 pm

I’m so glad you said that sometimes you eat dessert just because it tastes good! I feel so guilty sometimes for wanting dessert even though I’m not hungry. Now I know other people do it too, and I won’t feel so bad!

  36. Lauren on July 15, 2010 at 1:31 pm

The Hubz and I have discussed this very situation if he ends up in the JAG. We both decided that I would most likely move back with our family if he was deployed. He’s been gone all summer for an internship and even though my sister moved in I have not been handling it so well. I honestly can’t imagine what you are going through and facing, but I have so much respect for how strong you are through it all. I do believe God doesn’t present things to us that we aren’t strong enough to handle, but sometimes the strength training leaves lots of sore heart muscles and needs lots of friendly hydration 🙂

    Wish you the best!

Your temporarily moving to Tucson, aren’t you.

I love the style of this post- so fun!

  38. Celia on July 15, 2010 at 2:01 pm

I have been loving your blog, Gina! You are inspiring to me in many ways. Definitely do what’s best for you during the deployment … your hubby has been gone a TON. Of course you will be missed, but sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do to stay sane in this life! 🙂 PS Thanks to you I am cutting out all fake sugar except Stevia! Something I’ve wanted to do a while but haven’t quite had the motivation!

{hug} ^I totally agree with what Celia posted above.

  40. Jordana on July 15, 2010 at 2:17 pm

Oooh girl, I feel ya. I’m going to be stuck in UTAH of all places while mine is deployed soon. If I could leave I would. Take the opportunity if you can and be near people that make you happy while he’s gone.

  41. Logan on July 15, 2010 at 2:19 pm

Made me sad to read that you’re having to make a tough decision, but I think following your heart (and your pilot when you can) is the right thing. Why be where you are not happy when you can be surrounded by people who love you while he is away? Best wishes and prayers for both of you, Gina.

Cracks me up that Bella eats off the flight suit! 🙂 I always insist that my husband takes his off and hangs it in the front closet as soon as he walks in – and shuts the closet door!! I’m paranoid the jet fuel smell will take over my whole house. 😉

That pizza looks amazing, way better than the take out kind. I’m definitely going to give that a try next time we order out :O)

I am so in love with your blog, you have really helped me eat cleaner and feel better about myself. It’s so great to see a health and fitness blog that also encourages self-acceptance and love. Thank you for that!

As someone who just had to make a tough decision based on what I’m hoping is best for me, I say go for it. Even if it’s hard, if it’s truly what’s best for you, you’ll be much happier in the long run :O)
