Posting other Peeps

Hey guys! How’s your day going?? Hope you’re having a good morning <3

whiskey

(That’s Jeni’s dog Whiskey- he’s so sweet and cute. Bella’s body is the size of his head, haha)

I had a glorious movie and dinner night with the girls Smile

We ate at Longhorn, which used to be a weekly dinner spot before I moved to Orlando.

Bread, vino

iceberg lettuce salad (no croutons or cheese, oil and vinegar dressing)

salad

10 oz grilled salmon with double veggies

salmon

The salmon is always PERFECT at Longhorn. Buttery, flaky, grilled to glory. Lurve.

Dinner came with a lovely side of girl chat Smile

followed by Love and Other Drugs. I fully enjoyed the Jake Gyllenhaal eye candy and Anne Hathaway is amazing, but the story line was kinda meh. It also made me think of the Pilot a LOT. You know in the Twilight books (can’t remember which one- the second?) when Bella just wants to see horror and zombie movies because everything else reminds her of Edward? That kinda thing Winking smile

Love_and_other_DrugsSource

I was trying to figure out why I didn’t have more pics on my cam from last night, but remembered that I don’t usually take a lot of pictures when I’m with friends. A girl whom I used to be really good friends with once said to me: I hate being on your blog- don’t post pictures of me anymore. Ever since then, I’ve either not posted pics of other people when I’m with them (the Pilot, puppies and fellow bloggers are fair game, haha), or I ask if they don’t mind appearing on the bloggy.

Do think it’s ok to post pictures of friends on your blog? Do you ask first? What do you think about posting pictures of your kids online? (If you don’t have a blog, I’d still love to hear your two pesos)

I try to maintain my friend’s privacy by asking them, even though I myself wouldn’t mind showing up on a friends blog. As far as the kids thing goes, the Pilot and I agreed that when the time comes, I’ll just post occasional pics but not an everyday kinda thing and keep the blog food and fitness-focused. As much as it would be nice to believe that everyone in Cyberland has good intentions, it isn’t the case – putting out whole family out there like that would worry me.

Well I’m going to hit up the gym for legs, pick up Viesa and get on the road back to Orlando! Fast and furious little trip Smile

Have a great day and I’ll see ya laterrrrrrr <3

xoxo

Gina

I try to only put flattering, generic pics up of people outside of my family and other bloggers. I don’t think my boyfriend or best friends mind being on the blog, but I have felt weird putting up pics of people I’m not super close with! I guess I haven’t given the whole topic much thought, I just take it on a case-to-case basis. And I rarely put up pics from college parties, because I don’t want to cause issues with the underage drinking thing. Maybe I should start asking more people though, because I’m sure a lot of people don’t even know they’ve been on the blog!

  2. Danielle on November 30, 2010 at 8:03 am

It’s weird because I’ve gotten used to having such a “public life” so I sometimes don’t realize that a friend/family member would have a problem with being featured on my blog. Still, especially with newer friends, I make it a point to ask. I don’t want to offend anyone 🙂

Btw, I was dying to see Love and Other Drugs… I’m sorry it wasn’t that good 🙁

  3. chocolate-covered katie on November 30, 2010 at 8:03 am

I’ve written about this too, in the past.
As much as I’d love to post photos of my nights out, my parties, etc, I just don’t think it’s fair of me to send my friends’ faces out into the blogworld if they don’t know about it. I choose to have a blog, but they don’t. So unless I ask them first, I just don’t do it… or I replace their heads with a disney character’s face or something hehe :).
Now my pups… well, poor them. They don’t get a say as to whether or not their faces appear on my blog!

  4. Jessica @ How Sweet It Is on November 30, 2010 at 8:04 am

I rarely post pictures of people on my blog, including myself. Granted it’s not a blog like that, but I just feel uncomfortable with lots of pictures on the internet! Yet, I still use facebook…

  5. Angela @ Eat Spin Run Repeat on November 30, 2010 at 8:05 am

Most of the photos I post are of myself, but if I do post any of friends, they know about it first. Of course I’d never put up anything that’s incriminating – that would be asking for trouble!

Your salmon looks delicious! I’ve been absolutely loving it lately. Definitely my meal of choice when I eat out. 🙂

  6. Anne P on November 30, 2010 at 8:06 am

My friends love being on my blog, haha. I’ve only had like one person once say they’d prefer not to, and it was someone I had just met. I think friends like it b/c it’s basically a fun narrated version of what we did together, so they can show it to their family/friends and also have it as a nice way to remember our adventures!

  7. Liz @ Blog is the New Black on November 30, 2010 at 8:33 am

I ask before posting and kids aren’t often on my blog. My bf used to hate it but now he’s ok with being on it!

  8. Michelle on November 30, 2010 at 8:33 am

I don’t have a blog but I’d like to be asked if one of my friend’s did. I don’t think I’d like myself just popping up in the interwebs. 🙂

  9. allison @ livingoneday on November 30, 2010 at 8:41 am

ive never asked my family or friends if they minded being on the blog (though i do agree that bloggers are fair game lol – they know what’s in store when the camera flashes). i know my friends love to read mine, so they definitely do not care, but i guess if i were with other people (not bloggers, fam, or good friends) i would ask them what they thought. cant imagine it being too much of an issue!

  10. April @ Crazy Fabulous Life on November 30, 2010 at 8:45 am

I don’t take pictures of people and put them up without permission – and right now you won’t find one single picture of someone other than me or my husband because no one knows about my blog, haha!

I used to put pics of my kids up but I’ve stopped since reading a story that made me think twice about it. I also went through my back entries and deleted all pictures of them. I just feel better about not having them on there. Maybe that will change in the future, I don’t know..but right now I’m not down with it.

  11. Susan on November 30, 2010 at 8:49 am

I am totally with you on this Gina. I always ask. I don’t even feel 100% comfortable putting up too many photos of myself!

  12. Lynn @ On Every Road on November 30, 2010 at 8:51 am

I’m wary of posting pictures of myself sometimes! Haha

But I would definitely ask first. But I think posting pictures of other bloggers are fine.

  13. Emily on November 30, 2010 at 9:01 am

Hi – I love the blog!
I don’t usually like to post pictures of other people because I don’t want to make them feel uncomfortable. Some people really don’t want to be on blogs or feel like their whole life is on “display”.
I’d been wanting to see that movie, but I’ve heard from multiple people now that the plot isn’t strong.

  14. carpensm @ A Life Without Ice Cream on November 30, 2010 at 9:02 am

Hey hey, I agree with you on the posting rule… I would ask people if they mind being on the blog. I wouldn’t care (unless it was a bad pic :P) but I think some people are just a litte more skeezed out by the internet. As for kids I think it would be hard to never post but yeah, occasional would be best.

Thanks for the mini movie review… I’m going to see Love and Other Drugs with some girl friends tonight and am pretty excited to see it… but even if the story is meh I’d still be happy for 2 hrs of some JJ yumminess 😛

  15. Amanda (Eating Up) on November 30, 2010 at 9:02 am

Some of my friends mind–they hide a lot in shots. I’m also a little wary of which pictures to show on the Internet…it’s hard to know what to post and what to not post!

  16. CathyK on November 30, 2010 at 9:06 am

i ask before posting/tell them about my blog. i don’t put up other people’s kids without asking, for sure. and i make sure photos are flattering or complimentary – nothing embarrassing!
thanks for your movie review! i always appreciate hearing personal reports on movies i am undecided about seeing!
    safe drive, gina!

  17. Jackie on November 30, 2010 at 9:13 am

It’s a tough one and one I struggle with a lot as someone who blogs primarily about her family. One thing my husband and I agreed on before I started my blog was to not use our daughter’s name on our blog (she’s just known as E). That way, when she’s old enough to have an opinion, she won’t be able to Google her name and end up on my site. And I’ve never posted a photo that I think she’d ever be embarrassed about. Believe me, I spend a lot of time Photoshopping out underwear shots — 2-year-olds can’t be counted on to keep their dresses pulled down all the time!

It’s funny being on the front edge of a movement (blogging). All the rules are being written as we type, so I think there will be a lot of missteps as we all try to figure out the “right” way to do things.

  18. Anna @ Newlywed, Newly Veg on November 30, 2010 at 9:14 am

I post pictures of friends and family every now and then, but I try to kind of limit it, and I have a good sense of which of my friends don’t mind being on the blog, and which would prefer not to. And I always try to post flattering pictures of whoever it is!! Including me, ha!

  19. VeggieGirl on November 30, 2010 at 9:19 am

I ALWAYS ask permission of my family members and friends before posting their photos on my blog.

  20. Shannon on November 30, 2010 at 9:19 am

I take a lot of issue with people posting pictures of me on the internet. So, I ALWAYS ask permission when considering posting a pic of someone else.
Except my pups. They are little fame-whores, so they don’t mind 😉

  21. Allison @ Food for Healing on November 30, 2010 at 9:22 am

i don’t even post pictures of myself on my blog, never mind other people, friends or family. I just never felt that i should have to yet, kind of part time blogger, thing. If i were to ever, i think i would limit the pictures and mostly have ones of myself, or ask permission of anyone else. I like to keep my blog food focused.

  22. Tina @ Faith Fitness Fun on November 30, 2010 at 9:28 am

I always ask other people if they are okay being shown on the blog and always get their permission to include photos of their kids as well. Since it’s so public I think its the fair thing to do. Although, like you said – the husband, my kiddos, fellow blog friends, and anyone who has given me the go ahead before is completely fair game.

  23. Melissa @ TryingToHeal on November 30, 2010 at 9:38 am

I always ask my friends first if they want to be on the blog, and then i ask what they want to go by, like if they want their real name, or a nickname kind of thing. i know they appreciate it!

  24. Jill on November 30, 2010 at 9:39 am

I still don’t see the Sun Warrior promo link, am I missing something?

  25. Mimi on November 30, 2010 at 9:41 am

I usually only post Dan + family + friends who I know (and have talked with) are OK with it.

I think it’s important not to make anyone feel uncomfortable!

  26. Tracey @ I'm Not Superhuman on November 30, 2010 at 9:51 am

I never post friends or family (though I’ll post family if I ask first). I figure everyone has their own thoughts about the Internet and I should respect that.

  27. Jennifer@ Frost Bites on November 30, 2010 at 9:55 am

I will usually ask their permission, whether family or friends. I don’t post too much of my daughter either…

  28. Jenn @ LiveWellFitNow on November 30, 2010 at 9:55 am

I always put protecting privacy first. And I never assume that anyone would want to appear on the blog so I always ask. 🙂 People surprise you in both directions!

  29. Alina @ Duty Free Foodie on November 30, 2010 at 9:58 am

I think other people should only be featured on the blog with their express permission. I just don’t feel comfortable posting the photo otherwise. I have to echo some of the commenters in saying I don’t even post my own photo that often, so I can understand why others wouldn’t want to be on a blog, especially without their knowledge and consent.

  30. Jill on November 30, 2010 at 10:15 am

I put up pictures on Facebook and what not but I never put up pictures of other people’s kids. I don’t know how they would feel about it and it’s not that important for me to put on Facebook anyway. Some people are very protective of their internet security and don’t want their face all over the place.

  31. Theresa @ActiveEggplant on November 30, 2010 at 10:15 am

I always warn people first that I have a blog & that their picture might end up on it! As for kiddos – I don’t have any yet, so not sure how I’ll be handling that once the time comes, but I imagine they will certainly end up on it! My niece and nephew are sometimes on the blog after family get-togethers but I don’t use their real names & their parents gave me the A-OK for posting the pictures.

  32. Heather on November 30, 2010 at 10:21 am

I haven’t told most of my friends about my blog, so I try not to post pictures of them. However, I also look at my blog as kind of similar to Facebook and I have hundreds of pictures of friends on there. Generally, though, I keep my non-blog friends off the blog.

It’s a tough decision to make.

  33. kt on November 30, 2010 at 10:21 am

This is an important topic. As a teacher, I know parents have to sign an annual release form allowing students’ pictures to be used on websites or online newsletters. I think bloggers are pretty good about garnering permission from friends/family before posting pictures, but I worry about a young generation of facebookers who post pictures of friends in situations that the friends might want to forget about in a few years.

  34. Caree @ Fit-Mama! on November 30, 2010 at 10:32 am

I have a family blog and a health/fitness blog…and I post pics of family and friends more on my family blog than I do on my health/fitness blog. My husband is more concerned about putting pictures of the kiddos on the internet if it is public…

  35. Joanna on November 30, 2010 at 10:32 am

That’s a tough question! I’m thinking about starting a blog and I don’t know that I will tell my friends yet, so maybe posting their pics might not be such a good idea. If a friend is saying “don’t post me” because she thinks she’s fat, ugly, etc., I might post it. If she says it because she doesn’t want her face all over the internets, then I’d respect that. Buuut, Iono. Maybe you could go off of what kind of pic person they are on FB. I have a lot of picture crazy friends, so they wouldn’t mind.

  36. Allie (Live Laugh Eat) on November 30, 2010 at 10:32 am

I think everyone who knows me (and the blog) knows that if I take a photo of them it could end up on the internet. They are usually okay with it. Sometimes they’ll say “don’t post that” and I don’t.

I try to avoid posting photos of people who I don’t know, who just happen to be in my photos i.e. random stranger in the background. I never take photos of kids I don’t know. I thought it was illegal actually but I guess it’s not.

  37. Heather (Heather's Dish) on November 30, 2010 at 10:32 am

i usually ask my friends if it’s OK first and if they say ‘no’ then they never show up other than by name…and i never ever post pictures of kids unless i have the parent’s permission first!

  38. Michelle @ Turning Over a New Leaf on November 30, 2010 at 10:39 am

There isn’t a great variety of people I post pictures of on my blog. My closest friends and family show up on it, but everyone there is aware of my blog and posts pictures of themselves all over Facebook, and I really don’t see a difference there. My most bloggable material involves being around friends and family, and I’m a photojournalistic photographer by nature, so it’s practically impossible for me to remove other people from what I consider to be worth photographing, sharing, and writing about.

  39. fittingbackin on November 30, 2010 at 10:45 am

This is a toughie. I guess I feel like if you’re close enough friends with me to be in the pictures I take then you’re close enough friends with me to know about my blog which means you’re okay with your picture being up! I’ve never had anyone say anything like don’t post pictures of me – probably because they’re put themselves all over Facebook and Linked In! haha I of course work hard to not post anything unflattering (or… drunken..) just in case. It’s the same with the videos I make – I’m like this is NOT going on Facebook. And it doesn’t! 🙂 I would HATE to offend or upset anyone.

  40. Kate on November 30, 2010 at 11:14 am

Gina – I was wondering how you like the TOMS you bought? I think the black glittery ones are so cute, but i’ve heard the glitter gets everywhere, and im not sure what i’d wear them with besides leggings. Give me some fashionista adviceeee!! 🙂

PS – i can’t wait to see that movie!

  41. Christin@purplebirdblog on November 30, 2010 at 11:21 am

I ask permission ahead of time. Don’t want to step on anyone’s toes! 🙂

  42. Fallon on November 30, 2010 at 11:22 am

I always ask if I can post pictures of them either on my blog or on facebook. I’ll email them the photos I want to upload them and if they don’t approve them then I respect their wishes.

I also agree I wouldn’t want to post pictures of my kids (one day when I have some ;))all the time, but maybe once in a while that be fun.. like a birthday or a trip to the zoo!

  43. mi-an dela cruz on November 30, 2010 at 11:23 am

wanna see that movie! you still enjoyed it though right despite of the story line??
today is a great day bc it’s my beeee-dayy!! woot woot! 🙂 my boyfriend gave me his gift at midnight last nite…a really sweet card ( i was balling) and a delicious gift certificate of any spa of my choice!!! :))) doing pedi with my sis later, then power yoga, then shopping at lulu and anthropologie, then whole foods then having desserts (!!) with my fam. have a great day G!

  44. Megan @ Healthy Hoggin' on November 30, 2010 at 11:25 am

I’ll only post pictures of my friends who know about the blog– and even then, I’m careful not to do it too often! And when it comes to kids, I’m be extra-careful! I’ve made a point of not posting pictures of my niece, because it’s too creepy thinking about people staring at pictures of her online! Also, I’d feel like I would need to ask permission from her mom to post pictures each time. When I have my own children, I might post pics of them occasionally… but I guess I’ll cross that bridge when I come to it!

I agree about Love & Other Drugs– story was kinda “meh.” But good eye candy! 😉

  45. Paige @ Running Around Normal on November 30, 2010 at 11:33 am

I could def see why you’d want to avoid love movies. Though the Jake G half nakie scenes might be worth it, no? 😉
There are some friends who I keep off the blog. I have friends who are loud and loving and so easy going, and then I also have friends who are conservative and modest. I keep the latter off the blog 😉 I also try not to post any pictures of babies or kids on the blog. There are some serious creepos out there.

  46. Haleigh on November 30, 2010 at 12:02 pm

I really wanna see that movie!! I adore Anne Hathaway, and Jake Gyllenhaal isn’t so bad either 😉 I never post any photos of people who don’t know I have a blog. If they do, they usually know that if I’m taking a photo of them, then it will appear on my blog sooner or later.

  47. Ashley on November 30, 2010 at 12:03 pm

I think it’s good to try to maintain people’s privacy. It’s weird because the blog can feel kind of like a scrapbook and you want to put pics of your friends there, but I can see how – especially with popular blogs, like yours – people might feel uncomfortable getting their pics posted. I like your rule of Pilot, Doggies, & Bloggers are fair game : )

  48. Kira on November 30, 2010 at 12:05 pm

Since you asked for 0.2 from strangers…. 🙂

Posting pics of friends/family absolutely needs approval. I have enjoyed your blog but just a few days ago it crossed my mind – you seem to post a great deal of personal info. Where you work, city you live in, daily routine, feelings about personal items (pregnancy etc).

I’m older than you so pardon my caution – some of this you may wish down the line you would have kept to yourself.

    Best, Kira

    • Shelly on November 30, 2010 at 1:02 pm

I definitely think about this in my own blog. I never blog about my fiance going out of town until he’s back in town, for example.

    • Christina on November 30, 2010 at 2:14 pm

      TOTALLY agree Kira.

That’s what our society is all about now though, opening up to the world via reality shows, social media, blogs, etc. It’s NUTS how much personal information is made public.

  49. suki on November 30, 2010 at 12:17 pm

For the people who don’t know about the blog, I try not ot post too many photos of them up, if any. Everyone else has access to the blog and can tell me to remove a picture, and I’d do it right away. 🙂

  50. Clare @ Fitting It All In on November 30, 2010 at 12:17 pm

I was skeptical at first, but now my family and friends BEG me to post things about them on my blog!! If it’s someone not so close, I definitely ask.
