Sparkles and Turkeys

Hiiiiii 😀 Thank you so much for your sweet comments on my last post. It wasn’t meant to make you feel bad, though! There’s a silver lining in everything, fo sho. And if I eat more zucchini than usual, don’t question it, mmm k? 😉

It’s Fashion Friday!!

I’m celebrating by purchasing these babies, which are on hold for me…

They’re black (which will match my work clothes), sparkly (!) and will hide my heinous broken toe beautifully.

I went on a wild turkey chase yesterday looking for them, but after a few phone calls, found the place.

Speaking of turkeys (kinda?), meet “Gobble”

IMG00461-20101119-0932

He’s our thankful turkey 😀

One of the girls at work made him for today’s meeting, and we each wrote what we’re thankful for on a feather and are going to display it for the next week. Our meetings are a lot of fun.

Bonus: we get bagels, fruit and coffee 🙂

bagel

I had a whole grain bagel, peanut butter, blueberries, strawberries and coffee. After thinking about that bagel all week, it tasted even more delicious than usual. I’m still trying to avoid gluten for the most part since I’m sensitive to it, but I’m still going to eat it occasionally. It tastes so good 🙂

Another recent feast:

egg

Sautéed onion, tomato, kale, very fresh zucchini, Garlic Gold, sea salt, pepper and a drippy egg + 2 egg whites

egg (2)

Doused in hot sauce 🙂

Well I’m off to buy shoes and then who knows?! Not sure what today’s workout will be, but I’m off work. Jumping for joy counts as exercise 🙂

See ya later today <3

xoxo

Gina

Something to talk about: What’s on your holiday wish list? I’m compiling a list of Gift Ideas for Your Favorite Fitnessista which will be up Monday, in anticipation of my favorite holiday (Black Friday). Of course, spending time with others is the greatest gift of all, but any ideas you’d like to throw my way are so appreciated <3

Something to think (thank): Shanna read this in today’s meeting and it really spoke to me:

Love Gobble – what a great idea! The shoes are cute too…

  12. sara on November 19, 2010 at 10:53 am

Love the shoes – did you go a half size up? I’ve been wanting to order a pair and have been seeing conflicting messages about the fit.

  13. Christin@purplebirdblog on November 19, 2010 at 10:57 am

I want a pair of Toms sooooo bad… those are adorable!

  14. Stefanie on November 19, 2010 at 11:05 am

  15. Allison @ Food for Healing on November 19, 2010 at 11:11 am

i like that little turkey, thats a really good idea.

I want to get some of those shoes so bad! they look so comfortable,
and he donates a pair of shoes to someone in need with each purchase. Can’t go wrong.

  16. grocery goddess jen on November 19, 2010 at 11:12 am

Love the idea of the thankful turkey, and love the quote at the end of the post. Very inspiring.

  17. Katheryn on November 19, 2010 at 11:28 am

I love the quote. My kids and I made that turkey 3 years ago for Thanksgiving. Every year we pull him out and add 4 feathers each of things we’re thankful for and then after the holiday we keep our favorite of the year to add back in. Fun and cute tradition for sure!

  18. Emily N on November 19, 2010 at 12:53 pm

LOVE your quote. Anne Frank is so inspring. Whenever I’m annoyed with someone, I remember her quote: “In spite of everything, I still believe that people are really good at heart.” It mesmerizes me that she could hold that attitude while hiding in an attic during a world war.
Anyways, love your blog. A great gift, I think, is to have a picture you love be made into a canvas…I like to put favorite quotes on mine. Picture gifts are always the best and you can treasure them forever.
Was even thinking of making hand towels for my mom with iron transfers of recipes we love.

  19. Mo on November 19, 2010 at 1:04 pm

My gift wish list includes a pair of snow shoes . . . my husband thinks I’m crazy because he knows how I hate to be cold. My theory is that is I’m snow shoeing – the exercise alone will warm me up! Have a wonderful Friday.

    • Shelly on November 19, 2010 at 2:33 pm

I went snow shoeing last winter- it is a lot of fun and you definitely get really warm if you’re on a trail that has any sort of an incline. There are some well priced ones on Overstock.com right now.

  20. Katie on November 19, 2010 at 1:06 pm

I love anything with sparkles! Love the shoes!

My xmas list is black uggs ( I ahve everyother color of uggs and diff styles, but not just plain black tall ones, which would be the ones I would use most!)

    Lots of Vic Secret Sweats!

I dont know really what else, my fiance and I pretty much just buy things we want all throughout the year, but we do like to suprise eachother with gifts for xmas, its all about being together and the ones you love! Im excited to suprise my son with gifts !

  21. Krystina (Basil & Wine) on November 19, 2010 at 1:31 pm

  23. Julie @SavvyEats on November 19, 2010 at 1:38 pm

I LOVE that turkey! Next year, that’s what I’m doing for my “25 days of the little things” challenge for sure!

  26. Shanna @ Shanna LIke Banana on November 19, 2010 at 2:26 pm

At first, I thought you meant me? I’m like what I said that? haha…

  27. Tracey @ I'm Not Superhuman on November 19, 2010 at 2:31 pm

Those shoes are so cute! Love that they’re sparkly.

The turkey came out great, though the whole process of doing that is something I’d roll my eyes at during a meeting. Ha ha.

  28. Megan @ Healthy Hoggin' on November 19, 2010 at 2:31 pm

Love that Turkey!! Makes me want to get “crafty” this weekend and make a centerpiece for next week’s big feast!

My Holiday Wish list: Lululemon gear, the NEW Physique 57 DVDs (coming out in December!), and a camera!

I kinda want to celebrate Fashion Friday by visiting Lululemon… do you know if they’re running any Black Friday specials next week??

  29. Shelly on November 19, 2010 at 2:32 pm

On my Christmas list would be black wingtips from Land’s End Canvas (I think they’d look so cute paired with a girly dress), Stationary from Crane’s (the better to write post Christmas thank you notes with!), a Gu sample pack (I’m a runner so I go through the Gu!), workout clothes (I’ve got my eye on some stuff from Thriv and Lululemon), and an infinity scarf.

  30. Mara @ What's For Dinner? on November 19, 2010 at 2:36 pm

I have those same shoes in silver and adore them. I like your reasoning behind buying them more though.

  31. Molly on November 19, 2010 at 2:38 pm

Beautiful passage and I found it so true. I wish I worked with you, it sounds like so much fun and that turkey is an amazing idea. As for my holiday wishlist, i am probably the only teen i knw who has a juicer on their list but everyone raves about juicing and I want to give it a try!

  32. Gabriela @ Une Vie Saine on November 19, 2010 at 3:21 pm

Yay so glad you found the black sparkly TOMS…Bob was cool, but those are definitely better 🙂 I’ve got lots of Lululemon on my Christmas list, as well as dark chocolate bars and new running shoes!

  33. Erin on November 19, 2010 at 3:31 pm

So, I clicked on the “source” so see where you got your adorable shoes which led me to the Nordstroms website. From there, I felt forced to peruse the website, specifically the sale section, and proceeded to purchase a dress. You should really get commission from my order. Thanks again for a great blog and Happy fashion Friday to myself! : )

    • Fitnessista on November 19, 2010 at 3:45 pm

      LOL! happy new dress!

  34. Maren on November 19, 2010 at 4:08 pm

I want Toms sooo super bad for Christmas this year! I just love them! Those sparkles make them even better! 🙂

I do have a question for you. I know you got the Kindle for your birthday (woo hoo!)!! Anyway, my dad wants to get my mom one for Christmas. Are you able to rent books on there, too, or do you have to buy them?

    Thanks girl!

    • Fitnessista on November 19, 2010 at 4:22 pm

yes, you can check books out from the library on there!!!
      i love it! 🙂

      • Maren on November 19, 2010 at 7:33 pm

Score!! Thanks! 🙂 Have fun at girls night!

  35. Shanna on November 19, 2010 at 4:45 pm

So awesome that you are sharing Andy Andrews book! The Travelers Gift has changed my life and continues to do so every time I re-read it. Imagine what would happen to our lives if we were grateful everyday, every minute, every second. Not just during the holidays. Imagine how many people we would influence. How many great things we would accomplish.

Here’s the link to the directions if you want to make your own “thankful turkey”:
    http://www.cfnews13.com/article/entertainment/2010/october/159618

I used balled up newspaper under the yarn instead of the polystyrene ball….they were a little on the expensive side.

    Peas&love,
    Shanna

  36. Chelsea @ One Healthy Munchkin on November 19, 2010 at 7:17 pm

It sounds like you have such an awesome atmosphere and group of people at your work! That turkey is adorable. 😀

On my wish list so far is just some Lululemon gear!

  37. Dynamics on November 19, 2010 at 10:58 pm

Ohhh…a great holiday wish would be the macaroon recipe…he he he

  38. Kiran on November 20, 2010 at 12:07 am

I love excerpts by Anne Frank – very motivational and touching.

  39. Diana (Soap & Chocolate) on November 20, 2010 at 6:45 am

Black sparkly Toms! Yay! I am happy for you and your feet. And mine. Well done, lady. 🙂

  40. Betsy on November 20, 2010 at 2:48 pm

Sometimes we get so caught up in the most trivial frustrations that can ruin our day. Anne Frank reminds me of how lucky I am to be healthy, with a beautiful family, and should be nothing but happy!

  41. Amy on November 20, 2010 at 10:51 pm

I love the “thankful turkey”! Can i just say that your job seems like a great place to work!
