WMOW: Cardio Blasts

Hi guys! What are you up to today?

Mayjah apologies for being MIA this morning. The flight home last night was traumatic (I held onto the arm rests for dear life and said “Hail Mary’s” for about 2 hours), and I’ve been having YouTube woes. I’m back now, and the video is finally up!!

As you guys know, Gatorade sponsored my trip to NYC to test out some of their new products and be trained by one of their celebrity trainers.

I had my booty KICKED by Lacey Stone (who actually has a blog!). Lacey has trained Nicole Kidman, Brooke Shields, Jodie Foster, and has been on the Today Show, Dr. Oz and in a ton of magazines. She’s pretty much amazing Smile

After meeting with Gatorade and testing the new products, Lacey did a bootcamp-style workout with me.

Since it’s been FOREVER since I’ve posted a Workout Move of the Week, I thought that this would be fun to post since I want to get back into doing them!

Check out the cardio blasts we did and incorporate them into your next weights or cardio training sesh (if you’d like). Cardio blasts are excellent to do as an interval-style workout (with 30 seconds of rest in between), or in between weights exercises as a way to keep your heart rate up.

Be sure to check with a doc before making any fitness changes and as always, honor your body and injuries.

Hope you enjoy and learn some new moves!

Getting my bootay kicked by Lacey Stone

After the workout, I was treated to a build-your-own trail mix bar and use of the hotel spa services at the Setai Fifth Avenue.

I walked down to Pax, which is like a wholesome foods grocery store/deli and grabbed an oatmeal made with water (you could choose between water, 1% or skim milk! Awesome), topped with blueberries.

Mixed with some Vega protein:

Laid on the bed, and chilled for a second. Between Physique 57 and the training sesh, my body was definitely confused (in a good way). Smile

Thank you again, so much, to Gatorade for sponsoring my trip and for the incredible experience. I’ll be sure to post more about their new products so you guys can know what I tested as soon as it’s released to the press.

Have a great night and I’ll be back to my regular blog schedule in the morning!

xoxo,

Gina

Do you use cardio blasts in your workouts?? What’s your fave?

      • caroline on November 17, 2010 at 12:43 am

I bet you were SO sore after the Physique 57 class– my very first one was painful! (in a good way) 😉 What a weekend with a training session with Lacey Stone the next day! That’s so cool you got a one-on-one workout with her! And thanks for the reminder about the cardio blasts! I’m going to remember to do those in my next workout.

Excited to hear about the Gatorade products!

For some reason the video is not working for me — it starts and stops and then closes my browser window 🙁 I’ll have to watch on a diff computer later today.

My favorite cardio blast moves are burpees or high knees. Those both definitely get my heart rate up!

  8. Diana (Soap & Chocolate) on November 16, 2010 at 6:08 pm

Wow, fun stuff! You’re pretty much a beast for managing that after a P57 class. 🙂 So sorry you had plane trauma – that always makes my palms sweat hardcore – but I’m glad you made it up here for a visit. Finally got my own PF&W recap up, bringing up the rear, but then again the kind of cheese I write takes a bit of aging to be any good. 😉

  9. mary e on November 16, 2010 at 6:12 pm

video stopped for me @ 5 mins. weird. man, that looks like torture!!! haha, but really, what a thorough, efficient workout. any suggestions for people with knee issues re: squats/lunges? i am a lifelong dancer and any sort of weight-bearing exercise involving my knees that isn’t turned out KILLS! trainers have told me to just not go as deep into a lunge/squat but that isn’t as effective. let me know if you have any insight! much obliged 🙂

    • Fitnessista on November 16, 2010 at 6:51 pm

try floor exercises for your legs when you’re laying on your back (stability ball hamstring curls, bridges, etc)- see if that is easier

  25. Fit Chick in the City on November 16, 2010 at 7:32 pm

I had a feeling you were training with Lacey! If you sign-up for her email list, she sends out great playlists each month along with her schedule. I’ve been dying to take one of her spinning classes.

  26. Jenn on November 16, 2010 at 7:49 pm

I love Lacy! She taught Spin classes at the Equinox location in NYC that I used to belong to when I lived in the city. She is in amazing shape! The thing I remember best about her classes were what a good caller she was as an instructor. Hope you had fun! Can’t wait to hear about the new Gatorade products!

  27. Tracy @ Commit to Fit on November 16, 2010 at 7:53 pm

What a great experience and a hardcore workout! I am totally trying the medicine ball/side skip move in my next class 🙂

  28. Gabriela @ Une Vie Saine on November 16, 2010 at 7:54 pm

Ahh so cool!! I would have been crying…but I totally want to try a workout like that, just to see how hard I can push myself. You are seriously a fitness beast- and that’s a good thing!!

  29. Amy on November 16, 2010 at 7:56 pm

So cool that you got to have a session with a celebrity trainer! I was hoping it would be Shaun T though! 😉 My step sister got to train with him a few days ago – lucky girl!

  32. Averie (LoveVeggiesAndYoga) on November 16, 2010 at 8:00 pm

Wow. This is probably one of the nicest trips Ive seen in the sphere in awhile! The Pom trip last year was great but seriously the hotel looks major swanky!!! And the build your own trail mix bar, the dinner out with the girls to Pure yesterday, the Phys57 class, training with Lacey. GREAT TRIP! I want to go train with her!

Her triceps/arms are bigger and more well defined than most women can ever dream of! She’s in amazing shape and I bet you loved every second of it! I would..I love being pushed by someone who really knows her stuff!

Sorry about the traumatic flight home. I have had a few of those. Where you count your blessings, and life flashes before your eyes. Oh yes. I know and so sorry you had that kinda flight!

  33. Moni'sMeals on November 16, 2010 at 8:07 pm

    Really Sweet! Lacey is great.

  34. Jen on November 16, 2010 at 8:39 pm

Awesome video! You looked great and it looked like you were having fun. It must have been a little intimidating to be trained by such a famous trainer. You handled it with grace and poise. Congrats! I hope it leads to even more and cooler events in your life!

    • Fitnessista on November 16, 2010 at 9:25 pm

      thank you! <3

  39. Mary @ Bites and Bliss on November 16, 2010 at 9:16 pm

I have cardio blasts every now and then by either hoping on the treadmill for a quick sprint in between weights, or by doing heart-pounding quick weight sets. It’s great to keep the heart rate up!

  40. jami on November 16, 2010 at 9:28 pm

awesome video, gina! it looks like you did an amazing job! thanks for posting. i love doing cardio blasts, and the video gave me a few ideas for new ones. my favorite right now is doing plie jacks—plie down and then jump up with feet together in the air. they really get my heart pumping!

  41. Emily Eats Clean on November 16, 2010 at 9:46 pm

Gatorade sponsored your trip….that’s awesome!! Can’t wait to hear more about it and I’m glad you made it home safely!

Ohmygosh, I know Lacey! She’s awesome! I took one of her classes at Equinox about a year ago. It kicked my BUTT. Her attitude is the best. Just like yours 🙂

  43. Morgan @ Healthy Happy Place on November 16, 2010 at 10:51 pm

loved the video! I’ve been nursing a stress fracture in my spine and have been limited to only biking for the past three months. Watching your video has made me REALLY eager to get back into my old routine! very inspiring!

  48. Rhea (Greek Feaster) on November 16, 2010 at 11:28 pm

that workout looks so FUN! i took a class with my former trainer last weekend after not working with her since april, and it was great 🙂 solo runs and yoga sessions are great for thinking and recharging, but working out with a buddy or a cheerleader is so much more mentally stimulating!

  49. Teresa@vivaciousrunninggirl.blogspot.com on November 17, 2010 at 12:41 am

That class looks tough! you are in such great shape! I would love to try something like that!

  50. bojana on November 17, 2010 at 5:08 am

Omg, those looong jumps made me tired just by watching them! 🙂
And you look like you barely broke a sweat, man your’re tough!
Btw, do you maybe know what shoes does Lacey have on in the video? They’re such a great shade of blue, i couldn’t get my eyes of of them 🙂

Have fun – safe on the ground again :b
