Eggless Nog

Pics are up now! Thanks for your patience and to the lovely Mara (imadedinner.net) for helping me fix them! <3

Hiiiii :) How are ya? Hope you’re having a great morning. <3

It’s my last day staying with the parentals- I move into my place TOMORROW! I’m really excited to finally get settled somewhere. Living like a nomad out of suitcases and boxes has been a little painful.

Two suitcases and 11 FedEx boxes to be exact.

boxes
One of the boxes weighs 70 lbs, which I carried down two flights of stairs and out to my car in Orlando. Adrenaline will give you superhero strength, I tell ya.

Last night, I dug for 20 minutes to find the secret ingredient for the eggless nog I’d been plotting :)

I’d been having a dilemma about how I would *color* the nog without using eggs. I wanted it to have that slight yellow eggy color.

tumeric
Zing.

TUMERIC.

egg nog (2)
Mission accomplished :)

Eggless Nog

Serves one or many

-2 C raw cashews, soaked for 2 hours and rinsed well

-2 C almond milk

-1 C light rum or 3/4 C bourbon (optional)

-1/2-1 t nutmeg (depending on how strong you want the nutmeg flavor)

-1 t cinnamon

-1 t vanilla

-pinch of sea salt

-1/8 t tumeric (optional, for color)

-Stevia, maple syrup, pure sugar or brown sugar, to taste (I used Stevia, about 1 T brown sugar and a drizzle of maple syrup)

Add ingredients to blender and blend on high speed for 3 minutes until smooth

nog
There was no way I was digging in the boxes again for the Vita-mix.

Top with additional cinnamon and nutmeg.

egg nog
Cheers ;)

I’m off to breakfast with my daddoo and then hitting up a Power Hour yoga class. The weather is beautiful, so I might take the pups for a power walk, run, jog… wog. :D

Have a great day and I’ll see ya laterrrr <3

xoxo

What’s your winter beverage of choice? Hot cocoa, tea, cider, nog?

  1. I am a huge fan — when I was younger my mom used to always buy “Holly Nog” at the grocery store – just for me :)

But I am a cider girl — with a little bit of cinnamon liquor (like Hot Damn or Hot 100) – it tastes sooo good!

    “1 C light rum or 3/4 C bourbon (optional)” —> this is a joke, right? :)

  2. Cider! Which is strange, because I hate apple juice or applesauce. I guess I only like it hot ;)

  3. Ooo i LOVE eggnog during the holidays, my favorite. I used to make some with soy and pudding mix, but since i’m less lactose intolerant, i usually just buy the regular light stuff.

  4. I love hot cocoa. But lately I’ve been obsessed with the peppermint mocha trio I found at the Borders coffee shop. So delicious.

  5. Gina, GREAT JOB on the recipe!

This would not be optional in my nog “1 C light rum or 3/4 C bourbon (optional)”..haha!

Congrats on moving into your new place tomorrow! You have been on what feels like an epic sojourn for the last 8 mos or so. Basically the 2nd half of 2010 and a little before that. I truly wish you peace and a settled, “at home homey” feeling in your new place. I know that having the Pilot there would make it better but til he comes home, I hope you find some peace and calm and a sense of belonging and can put down roots!

    :)

  6. I love hot chocolate (cocoa)! :)

  7. That’s so exciting you’re moving into your new place tomorrow! :) Good luck and hope it goes smoothly.

I love a SMALL glass of egg nog as it really upsets my stomach (WAY too much dairy), but I’d have to say I’m a Scotch on the rocks kinda gal. I remember growing up my dad and uncle would have a glass Christmas Eve (after the festivities of dinner and going to church) and my dad would let me have a small sip and it eventually grew on me. I can’t do much (like maybe 3-4 sips worth) but it warms you right up! :)

  8. You mean to say that the Vita-Mix didn’t ride shotgun with you on the drive out to Tucson??!!??!!?? For safe measure, I would have secured it with a seatbelt :)

  9. You mean to say that the Vita-Mix didn’t ride shotgun with you on the drive out to Tucson??!!??!!?? For safe measure, I would have secured it with a seatbelt :)

  10. Tumeric- cleva cleva! When I was a kid, I LOVED egg nog, then one Christmas I had a sip and thought it was the most disgusting thing ever. But over the past couple of years, I’ve started to dig it once again. I’d say homemade mulled hot cider takes the cake, though. So comforting :)

  11. I can’t see any of the pictures :(

  12. Hot Chocolate. Never could stand the taste of egg nog.

  13. i cant seee any pics! sounds like a good recipe though. so glad your moving into a new place!

  14. Yay, Happy Almost Moving Day!

As for wintery drinks: I’m a hot chocolate lover, for sure — with whipped cream, please!

  15. Good luck moving!! I was never a big fan of egg nog but I love hot tea.

  16. Congrats on moving in! From working at ‘Bizzle’ for a few years I’ve totally lost my appetite for eggnog from making Venti Eggnog Lattes for people. That’s 3x the normal serving! It’s insane. But I have been looking for a Raw and/or raw vegan nog…this one looks fantastic!

  17. mmmm, nog. i like the idea of nog, but i never really loved the reality of it. once soy nog hit the market i found i like that better.
    >>>christina-doesn’t it blow your mind that people can put away that veniti eggnog latte? i feel a little guilty handing them over the counter. ugh. also ugh is when people order them “nonfat” which is more or less a joke. sigh.

  18. ya pictures are still not working, but that doesn’t stop nobody from commenting haha! we all have good imaginations i think

  19. mmmmmmm, even if the photos aren’t there i’m in love with this recipe!

  20. sounds great even without photos althought im trying very hard to picture everything!!

  21. I love the rich color turmeric lends to recipes! Brilliant addition! I love hot tea… especially Celestial Seasonings Sugar Cookie Sleigh Ride!

  22. genius! I can’t wait to make this for my christmas party, thanks!!!

  23. I prefer cider. The texture of eggnog bothers me.

BUT you could also try soaking the mixture with grated carrot to give it the color you are looking for. That is how people used to color the butter yellow when they made it at home!

  24. That’s so amazing! And healthier than rice nog. I’m a total hot cocoa fiend.

  25. I’m a cider girl! I love going to the farmer’s market and getting hot cider while I shop!

  26. So… the reason behind the high traffic is because all of us are clicking out of our RSS readers into your website to see if we can see the pics on your site instead :)

haha, you should break your image links more often.

  27. Hot chocolate. Good luck with the move tomorrow!

  28. this sounds like a great recipe!

  29. Too hard to have a favorite! I do love nog (the hardcore stuff with cream and eggs but I’m going to try the cashews!), cider, hot chocolate and mulled wine too. I usually can’t stand to drink hot drinks but I will pound them down if there’s spice in them :)

  30. Nice recipe Gina!! Sounds like you’re having a great day. Can’t wait to hear about your new place!

  31. SOY NOG!!!! It’s the best!

  32. I’ve never had eggnog before but have always kind of wanted to. It must be because me mom’s not a huge fan so I grew up with it being a “gross” drink in my mind. I like that this one’s eggless! I’ll have to give it a try.

  33. It makes me sad that the pictures aren’t working :( boooo!

This looks like a yummy recipe but being non-vegan I’m okay with letting the grocery store make it all ready for me :) muhahah

  34. Flavored coffee at starbucks, pumpkin spice latte or gingerbread latte is my fave!

  35. still no sunwarrior promo yet?? sorry i keep complaining! im just in need of some very badly!!!

  36. This “Nog” looks delicious. My fave winter drink is definitely Hot Cocoa, but it feels like Christmas if I have a glass of Eggnog because I like Hot Chocolate any time of the year!

  37. GAH!!!!!!!!!! This looks fantastic!!!!!! Thanks so much for the recipe! Cashews are soaking as we speak :) You just made me a very happy girl LOL

  38. Hi, I cant see any of your pictures for this post!! :(

  39. I’m not a big egg nog fan, but I’d definitely try an egg-less version. Other than that I’d pick tea. Unless it’s fall and we’re outside. Then it’s cider all the way.

  40. Not a huge nog fan, usually one mug a season hits the spot for me. Love cider, and hot chocolate. So, I picked up some goat cheese! Better be good!! lol

  41. Sounds delish :)

  42. For winter time, I like flavored coffee (just wrote cookies for a second there) and holiday flavor teas like Vanilla Cinnamon or Candy Cane tea from Trader Joe’s.

You carried 70lbs box, you’re a strong girl…either that or you were very determined.

Have fun with the move tomorrow, you should bless the place by baking cookies on your first night. What do you think?

  43. I love egg nog. I love that this is dairy AND soy free. Can’t get any better than that. :)

  44. beautiful! and even better since i can see them!

  45. I’m all about tea! Especially Celestial Seasonings holidays flavours. :D

You must be so excited to move into your place tomorrow! It’ll be nice to be able to have some place that feels like home again. Good luck with the move!

  46. I was reading everyone comments and wondering why some people have pictures with their comments and others don’t. How do I get my picture attached to a comment? Must you have a blog because I do not?

  47. Yum Gina – can’t wait to try this one!

Good luck with the big move tomorrow – Will be thinking of you!!

  48. This looks delicious. I can’t have dairy for the next few months but have been yearning for egg nog. Thanks for posting.

I’m a mulled wine and hot apple cider girl at Christmas.

  49. I made the eggless nog and shared it with my readers! Yum!
