Skeletons and Buddhas

Hey bloggies hey Open-mouthed smile Hope you’ve had an amazing day.

I spent the better part of my morning curled up on the comfy chair. After the insanity of last week, the exhaustion finally set in, so I took the morning off from the gym for some R&R.

About 400 of these were consumed:

almonds

I’m not even sick of them yet Open-mouthed smile

Then, my little bro (who is a cheffer), made me the best omelet I’ve ever had:

omelet

Farm fresh eggs, wilted arugula, goat cream cheese, with a salad topped with balsamic and hummus. I have a couple of days left here before I move into my place, so hopefully he’ll make me another omelet before then Winking smile

I took a nap, an Emergen-C, a Tylenol, and then went to the 4th Ave Street Fair with the fam to get some fresh air.

4th

The street fair is in downtown Tucson, which has a bunch of vintage funky shops, cafes, bars, tattoo parlors and historic buildings. They have the fair twice a year and close off the street for local vendors and artisans:

Handmade beautiful art,

clothing, candles,

foodie delights,

goat cheese

(organic goat cheese! I bought a jar of the Southwestern flavor)

henna tattoos, musicians

steel drums

and the standard fair food: kettlecorn, corn on the cob, snow cones, fry bread, etc.

I sipped a Zevia and loved walking around to check it all out. The Pilot got checked off the Christmas shopping list, too. Smile

My mom, nana and I browsed around in a store that was almost entirely Mexican skeletons and Buddhas.

I was in love.

We came back to the casa, watched Elf for the second time, and I took another nap. I’m hoping to be back to normal by tomorrow.

See ya in the morning!!

xoxo,

Gina

Glad you are enjoying being back in Tucson! 🙂 Speaking of Tucson, have you ever seen Romy & Michele’s High School Reunion? I think of that movie every time I come to your blog now 🙂

      That movie ROCKS! Hilarious 🙂
“Look out, Tucson! Here we come! Whoooooo!”

I have to say, the sight of people in shorts makes me long to run from the current weather situation in the Twin Cities right now. Feels like negative 20 and after we shoveled, the mounds were about 6 feet high.

Enjoy your rest time! You deserve it!

I just tried Zevia for the first time and thought it was a pretty amazing…and I don’t even drink pop, but sometimes a certain pizza night of the week requires it 🙂

Dark Chocolate Almonds are in danger of going extinct in my presence. Soooo good!
Also: lovin’ the painting of Frida Kahlo! Way cool. And I collect Buddhas…I love him so!
PS: Wish your bro was single–that omelet looks insanely delicioso! 😉

I see the dark choc covered raisins above the almonds — THOSE are my favorite 🙂 Well, dark choc on almost anything is super delicious.

I love going into art fairs/shops/etc — especially when you get to meet the artists who make the products — they are so proud and it is hard to not buy everything!

TJ’s snacks are the best but so addictive! I can’t buy the chocolate-covered PB pretzels anymore because they are seriously like crack.

Dear sweet Gina, I’ve been following your lil bloggy for about 2 years now & have always enjoyed you’re advice, suggestions, wonderful training tips and all in all getting to know who you are & your daily thoughts. I was very dismayed when I was “catching up” on the last 3 days of your blog & someone had the nerve to leave such petty comments? I loved yours & the pilot’s comments back it was dignified & very true which is exactly both of your characters….always remember your faithful readers know who u are! Love from North Carolina…. 😉

  10. Shelley on December 12, 2010 at 8:57 pm

    Gina,

I’m catching up on your blog and was surprised about the drama that had cropped up. I am so happy that you are in AZ and away from the negativity that had you down while the pilot is away. That, in itself, is tough. I don’t know you, but that initial post talking about your decision to leave and then the comments in another post made me upset that there was someone out there was attempting to make your life all that more difficult. You have handled the situation on the blog with grace. You are such an upbeat and positive person. It seems that this move was most certainly the correct one to make at this time. Wishing you all the best!

I’m in Phoenix! My parents and I went to a pottery place in the middle of nowhere that had really cool pots and other cool Arizona art. I’m in love with the Southwest.

  27. Kelly on December 13, 2010 at 12:46 am

Oh, the Street Fair! So fun! I think my husband and I went to that same shop when we visited in October. He doesn’t get why I dig the Mexican skeletons so much. Must be a growing-up-in-Tucson thing.

  28. Laughter-Loving Stacy on December 13, 2010 at 1:26 am

Oh my gosh, that looks like a wonderful place! I’m happy to be from Seattle, and during the summer there are plenty farmers markets. I wish they were year round, but the rainy weather that occurs 340 days of the year doesn’t allow it, ha, ha. 🙂

  29. Averie (LoveVeggiesandYoga) on December 13, 2010 at 8:00 am

I love street fairs! Every Sunday right across the street from my house is the largest farmer’s market in San Diego. It’s not quite street fair status but it’s pretty huge…musicians, henna tatts, lots of organic locally grown food and veggies, and also locally made food. Not all of it is health food, but it’s oh so good 🙂

Looks like you had a blast and lovin’ the buddha/yoga little items you saw! How fun!

I love chocolate covered almonds! Whenever I come across kids selling them for fundraisers, I can’t pass up buying a box (or five). It’s all for the good of the community, right? 😉

I hope you enjoyed your rest day. It sounds like you needed it!

Not that you asked for advice, but I thought I’d mention this: if you’re fighting a head cold, I just this morning read about a remedy that I’ve never heard before: adding a splash of Bragg’s Apple Cider vinegar to a glass of water helps to cut mucus (Blech, I despise that word).

    http://findyourbalancehealth.com/2010/11/top-10-ways-to-kick-a-colds-butt-before-it-kicks-yours/

I’m actually drinking a glass right now–I’ve been fighting a ridiculous, mutating illness for weeks now after not being sick for years 😛

I hope you’re feeling better today!

wow, good to know! i have a horrendous hacking cough… the kind that hurts. so hopefully this will help!

  36. Rachael on December 14, 2010 at 10:31 am

We must have crossed paths this weekend as I conquered the farmers market and the 4th Ave. St. Fair as well! Do you by chance remember the name of the store with the Buddhas and skeletons? I would love to check it out.

Love your blog! Welcome back to Tucson. I have only lived here since May, but I am really enjoying it so far. If you are ever looking for another healthy fitness freak in the area let me know!

I love that street fair! We went a couple times when we were going to school at the U of A. =D
