Dating Yourself

Morning friends! How are you??

So glad ya liked the Jacksonville pics– it was a glorious day 😀 It’s funny because I used to never enjoy doing things alone and as I’ve gotten older (and married a military man), I think I’ve perfected the art of dating myself 😀 I’d much rather hang out with friends, but sometimes it’s fun to go on excursions alone. Bonus: I’m a more efficient shopper when I’m alone- fast and furious 🙂

The girl at Freshen’s was so sweet to make me a smoothie with frozen strawberries, water and the protein blend I’ve been using. (Separated into baggies for the trip)

protein

A scoop of the protein my doc sent me (which tastes like death and sadness) and a scoop of glorious Sun Warrior to drown it out

The flight was pretty standard (lots of reading and mouth-open sleeping- I’m thisclose to finishing Crazy, Sexy Diet and American Wife), and I was so happy to see the fam and this furry face when I got to Tucson.

bella

(She’s still in bed sleeping this morning-  I need to go tuck her in again)

I hugged the roomies and caught up with them, then proceeded to make midnight Amazeballz 🙂

It was perfect crumbled into this morning’s protein ice cream:

ice cream

Tip: You don’t need xanthan gum for protein ice cream- just try to use a more equal ratio of almond milk to frozen fruit. This will create an ice cream sorbet-type delight 🙂

ice cream (2)

In the mix:

-1 C-ish frozen organic blueberries

-1 C-ish of almond milk

-1 scoop of each type of protein

-3/4 t decaf espresso powder

-cinnamon

-crumbled amazeball

I’m off to instruct in the art of cardio booty-shaking 🙂

(Pic is from the Year in Review class– I’m in the light blue –haze- shirt)

Have an amazing day and I’ll see ya laterrrrrr <3

Something to talk about: When was the last time you took yourself on a date? Where’d you go?

I love “me time” and dating myself! I’m not really great at being in groups all the time, I’m more of a loner, and I’ve had a lot of fun doing things that I can NEVER get a group of people to do – museums, movies I want to see, cool exhibits, free yoga in the park … Not relying on others makes life a lot simpler! Not that I don’t LOVE my friends and my boyfriend, but it’s just a different thing, being with them vs being with myself.

The protein ice cream sounds fab!

I haven’t really been on a date with myself. The closest thing I guess was the weekly grocery trips that I used to take. When we lived in Virginia, I LOVED our grocery store and really enjoyed my time there alone. I loved to check out new ingredients and dream up new recipes. Since we moved to California 8 months ago I haven’t found a grocery store that I like so its basically a “get in, get out” operation.

There is really nothing better than a few yet-to-be-read fitness mags 😀

can i purchase the detox book you are using anywhere or is it strictly through your doctor?

I LOVE dating myself! I tend to go to my fav. restaurant on Friday Night’s to wind down after work!

I love when people are flexible and let me get my order just right- makes all the difference!

I kinda like going shopping by myself because I go at my own pace and enjoy it just a little bit more. I also love book store dates with myself- a nice tea and a store full of books and magazines are a great time to relax.

Oh I am in a very serious relationship with myself. Myself and I are totes going steady and we are in love. Still, should someone catch our eye, we are both open to seeing other people. 😉

Shopping by myself is totally preferable, and I even enjoy going to the movies solo (there’s a theater across the street from me so it’s easy to roll outta bed on a weekend and catch a flick). I still prefer dining with others, though–they are much more talkative than my kindle. 🙂

    Safe travels!

OMG. I laughed so hard reading that title, because I finally have a way to describe my life in the long distance relationship! You crack me up! I’m gonna say its good for our independence. Dating ourselves is a good way to stay true to ourselves and bring the best possible self when are men ARE around, right? My favorite date night (with myself) is a leisurelly trip to Whole Paycheck for a to-go box of hotbar/salad bar delight. Cheesy girly movies like “Eclipse” may be involved.

I go to book stores a lot when I want to be alone. I just love wandering around them, there’s something really relaxing aboutit to me.

“I’m a more efficient shopper when I’m alone- fast and furious :)”— ME TOO!!! just wait til you have a baby…you will make it to one singular store and think just getting out of the house was a miracle. lol. I totally try to run all my errands as much as possible when skylar is with daddy!

Standard Process protein. Oh yes…it does taste…horrible!!

When I was single I used to love doing things solo, but it was a ‘learned skill’. It was always that way but i came to enjoy it b/c i could do things in my time tables and wish list 🙂

I love dating myself. My last break up was gnarly and gross so I decided to purposefully be single for a year and “date myself”. I’m so glad I did. I also like to joke that running is my boyfriend 🙂

  15. Stefanie on February 1, 2011 at 3:33 pm

OMG-I just saw your picture and I am also doing the Standard Process Purification program (ie cleanse) with my nutritionist(who is vegan)here in Phoenix.

I was feeling like crap and my cycles all messed up. I eat mostly clean and healthy (so I thought) but my digestion was horrible. And here I am totally a fitness nut doing the HIIT, interval and weight training thing, but insides felt like death.

I started on the 17th and eating totally vegan/dairy free with the shakes, pills, etc and just was able to add back in wild-caught fish. Much of my protein prior to FISH day was Pea Protein by Olympic Lab, which I highly recommend (and locally made here in Scottsdale). My diet is much more “clean” and grain free, following the exact program quidelines, bit different than what you are following with your doc.

Well I feel amazing. 5 more days to go. I have lost 6.5 pounds(and I am not even overweight!) and feel so energized. The first week of detox was horrible, not gonna lie.

It has shown me how much better you feel eating whole foods and no sugar. I haven’t been sugar free in years. and now splenda free too.

Also, I want to let you know that is reset my hormones too. My cycle has been so out of whack. While on the cleanse, on 28th day of cycle, just like it used to, I got back on track. So hoping it continues 28 days later to next cycle as it used to few years ago.

So I think this cleanse is great so far. Shakes do taste like death for sure!!! But adding frozen blueberries and carrots in am with flaxseed oil and Peak Protein, it is fine.

I meet with my nutrionist today to work on the reintroducing foods and eating clean for life.

Just thought I would share my experience with the same cleanse. Keep detoxing and resetting your bod!

i live in scottsdale…where do you go?

      • Stefanie on February 3, 2011 at 7:37 am

Her name is Alisha Chasey. She has her own practice as nutritionist and Registered Dietitian, as well a Chef that makes Gluten, Dairy, Soy, Egg and Refined Sugar Free called Innocent Indulgence (which will finally be sold in Whole Foods!) The stuff she will teach you about whole food eating and living is amazing.

thanks for all of the info! 🙂

  16. Hannah on February 1, 2011 at 4:14 pm

That is so true, Gina, “dating yourself” can be fun! I’m slowly learning to appreciate my alone time.

Question though–why is your doc having you use a certain protein powder when Sun Warrior is one of the cleanest, purest, vegan ones out there? It doesn’t seem like you can get more raw or bioavailable than Sun Warrior!

  17. carolinebee on February 1, 2011 at 4:27 pm

hollllaaa, look at that extension!!! Gawgeous ;D I just got American Wife on the Kindizzle, haven’t finished my current read but I’m excited to read it next…
Alsoooo, good to know about the no need for xantham gum, I always thought I *needed* it but didn’t want to fork up the dough for that random product :p xxooo

  18. ashley@quasichick on February 1, 2011 at 5:55 pm

yeh that protein powder from your doc just looks nasty..lol Nothing can beat SW!

  19. Chelsea @ One Healthy Munchkin on February 1, 2011 at 7:12 pm

Hahaha I swear I’m dating myself too! I love going on a date at Starbucks to drink a latte while reading a magazine. Speaking of mags, how is that issue of SELF? I find them really hit or miss sometimes.

  20. Mary (What's Cookin' with Mary) on February 1, 2011 at 7:16 pm

My husband travels for work pretty regularly, so combat that I started my blog of course and I, like you, take myself on dates LOL!! Of course it’s always more fun to do something with a buddy, but sometimes it just doeasn’t work out. My last date was more like a DAY-TE haha… Got a mani pedi, blogged, took a killer spin class, got a juce from Mother’s Market and went shopping at lulu. ’twas a good day 😀

  21. Raya on February 1, 2011 at 7:36 pm

This past weekend I wanted to go hiking so I went by myself!! It was a bit scary considering I’m directionally challenged, but I was careful and all was well. Plus gorgeous views!

  22. Stephanie on February 1, 2011 at 9:26 pm

I love the protein ice cream idea! I’ve made “ice cream” with frozen banana before, but I’ve never added almond milk or protein powder. Think I’ll try it tomorrow.

I like to “date myself”, but I always make sure to have a book with me. Coffee shops and restaurants alone without a book make me feel a bit antsy!

  23. Ahzahdeh on February 1, 2011 at 11:35 pm

I love taking myself to Target! I could get lost for hours.
Also loved the newest issue of Real Simple. Definitely have some of those recipes torn out and on my counter right now.

  24. CampingGirl on February 2, 2011 at 6:50 am

It’s been awhile since I’ve been on a solo date but I like going to the movies, shopping, spa, cafe etc. I love spending time alone.

  25. Michelle @ Turning Over a New Leaf on February 2, 2011 at 12:21 pm

I am NOT a quick shopper when I’m alone! In fact, I take longer! I stroll and peruse around the store, taking advantage of the fact that nobody’s waiting for me to hurry up and finish. I enjoy shopping alone. It’s relaxing. 🙂

  26. Leslie on February 3, 2011 at 12:38 pm

I used to not like being by myself, but now that I’m a stay at home mom with a sweet two year old kiddo, it can sometimes be BLISS! My last “date” was last Sunday. I took myself to “Whole Paycheck.” 😉

Love your blog, thanks for posting so much. You keep me sane sometimes! 😉
