Oh hey, belly

Big difference this week!

4 1/2 weeks:                                                                         10 1/2 weeks:

week2 10week (2)

12 1/2 weeks:                                                     15 weeks:

12weeks    15weeks

Oh hey, belly!

One thing I’ve noticed is that my belly is positioned very high on my torso. My friend (who is due a week before me!) is having a boy and her belly is LOW and tiny. I decided to Google to see what this meant, because usually people say you can predict the gender by “how you’re carrying.” Of course, these are totally wives’ tales, but it’s fun to play along.

From this website:

High or low? Front or back?

The way that we carry a baby is one the most popular methods of predicting the sex and you’re likely to encounter plenty of people who’ll give an accurate gender diagnosis based on the position of your bump. It’s generally believed that if we’re low and out front, it’s a boy but if the bump is high and we’re visibly pregnant from the back, we’ve got a girl. Again, scientists have put a damper on this belief, citing that the way we carry is a result of muscle tone and the position the baby has adapted in the uterus. Spoilsports!

Hopefully we’ll find out on Friday!

Right now, I’m pretty sure the baby likes:

-Zumba

-Acupuncture (the energy I feel during acupuncture right now is incredible)

-Massages –an excuse to get them frequently, yes?

-Vosges chocolate

choc

-Spicy- I’ve been going through a bottle of this hot sauce each week… and pay for it in heartburn every night. And I just keep going back for more.

hot sauce

-Goat cheese (I just make sure it’s pasteurized)

-Salad beasts and smoothies

-Belly rubs and kisses from its Dad 🙂

What I’m still staying far away from:

-Chicken and sometimes fish [beef and pork are always off the list for me]. They just sound terrible most of the time, and if I have fish I really have to be in the mood for it and it can’t smell the least bit fishy.

-Summer squashes and eggplant. I think it’s a texture thing?

-Sweets. My sweet tooth seems to have taken a permanent vacay, unless it’s dark chocolate 🙂

Random:

I think I may need to invest in one of those belly band things. My bellybutton is starting to look like a small swimming pool and you can see it through my shirts. Hawt.

Everyday around noon, I’ve been hit in the face with headaches. I found that having a cup of coffee diluted with almond milk helps me make it through the day. It’s weird because I wasn’t drinking coffee before I started baking the gluten-free bun, but have to have a little everyday. [They said up to 2 cups is safe, but I keep it under 1 cup]

-I wasn’t sure how it would feel to go through major changes with my body. For the first time ever, my stomach is growing and I’m gaining weight and it’s a GOOD thing. I’m really happy to find that I’m excited with everything going on, and every time there’s a visible change, it makes me ecstatic instead of afraid. I just feel like I’m a vessel for a small human and that it’s a temporary thing- my body is doing exactly what it’s supposed to. I’m working to maintain my fitness (cardio almost everyday with varying intensities, weights 3x a week, flexibility training via yoga + more rest if I feel like I need it that day) and know that I’ll get to push myself and get back to where I was after the little nugget is born. Another fun thing has been exploring with pregnancy fashion. Before, I almost never wore empire-waist pieces and now they’re my best friend 🙂

i’m 16 weeks and the dr said that they wouldn’t be able to tell sex of baby til after 18 weeks!

    • Mandy on July 13, 2011 at 8:45 pm

They can venture a good guess, there’s just a chance it’s inaccurate, so a lot of docs won’t do it early.

      • Fitnessista on July 13, 2011 at 9:00 pm

most docs do it at 20 weeks to be more certain, but my friend who is having a boy, they could tell at 14 weeks!

  2. Ali @ urbanfruitbat on July 13, 2011 at 6:49 pm

Haha, I dono about the carrying thing. Me and my sister carried TOTALLY differently, and we are the same gender. But you are right, those things are fun! I am sorry to hear about the headaches! Dang hormones!

  3. Mary (What's Cookin' with Mary) on July 13, 2011 at 6:50 pm

You look so rediculously happy 😀 …and such a cute baby bump !

  4. Danielle (Shrinking and Studying) on July 13, 2011 at 7:06 pm

Teehee, I am in love with your bump!!

I hear those belly bands are also great for when your bump starts to get bigger because you can cover your tummy and still wear your pre-pregnancy shirts and it just looks like layers! Apparently you can also use them to keep your jeans up but undone, without them looking weird.. come to think of it I don’t think you are much of a jeans girl anyway as far as I can tell from your blog. 🙂

  5. Sarah @TheExPat Bride on July 13, 2011 at 7:28 pm

Dangle one of your necklaces over your belly, if swings back and forth, it is a boy. If it swings in a circular pattern it’s a girl. 🙂

    • Fitnessista on July 13, 2011 at 7:33 pm

i’m totally going to do that. right now haha.

  6. Beth on July 13, 2011 at 7:48 pm

Have you ever had any negative side effects to acupuncture. I’m returning to it after many years and afterwards I’ve been developing a headache and have been feeling worn out and tired and need a nap. I know you’ve been doing it a while and usually report feeling amazing. Just curious. We’ve adjusted how many needles I have and how long I keep them in – that seems to be helping…

    • Fitnessista on July 13, 2011 at 8:07 pm

that’s interesting- i haven’t experienced any negative side effects, only good ones. hope it gets figured out and fixed! it’s definitely supposed to make you feel better- not worse!

  7. Averie @ Love Veggies and Yoga on July 13, 2011 at 8:04 pm

I was a huge coffee drinker pre pregnancy and during pregnancy wanted NOTHING to do with it. We’re opposites 🙂 All the hormone changes, not surprised you have headaches. I spent most of my preg with a massive brain pain…ha!

I love your attitude about your growing belly. So happy for you.

Love the progress pics/evolution/changes in the pics. I WISH i had a blog then…I would be sooo fun to go back and look at my archives. You will be SO happy you did these! 🙂

  8. Annie@stronghealthyfit on July 13, 2011 at 8:12 pm

You look gorgeous and SO happy! Thanks for the pics 🙂

  9. Megan @ On The Road Again on July 13, 2011 at 8:53 pm

Your bump is so cute! I just realized we must be pretty close in due dates, as I should be about 14 weeks this Friday with due date of Jan. 13th. What day is yours?

    • Fitnessista on July 13, 2011 at 8:59 pm

      jan 3 🙂

      • Michelle on July 14, 2011 at 9:35 am

        Hey Gina!
You had previously mentioned that your due date was January 5th…Just curious why it changed? By the way, you look beautiful and so happy!

        • Fitnessista on July 14, 2011 at 9:43 am

thank you! one of my phone apps was wrong- the official due date (per what all the docs are saying) is jan 3rd 🙂

  10. Sierra on July 13, 2011 at 8:54 pm

    You look fabulous!

    • Fitnessista on July 13, 2011 at 8:59 pm

      thank you! 🙂

  11. mary on July 13, 2011 at 9:40 pm

I carried very high and had a girl. I had terrible heartburn especially toward the end, too, so I feel for you.

I’d say hold off on the baby band because soon all your pants will have that around the top but they probably aren’t mostly made like that anymore, at least not the cute ones!

  12. Tamyr on July 13, 2011 at 9:49 pm

Beautiful pictures. You’re shining and that’s a good thing. You’re a very active mommy and the baby likes it hihi. Such fun to read!
The hot sauce is kind of a shocker though. Around here, people say that when you’re glowing and are extra pretty with a round belly, it’s a girl. And if the belly is pointy, it’s a boy. I don’t know how far that’s true, but it’s been almost always correct. Looking forward to read more about baby! 🙂

  13. Brittany on July 13, 2011 at 10:18 pm

You are so, so cute, Gina! You wear that bump well 🙂 Loving your attitude toward pregnancy and am really looking forward to learning if your babes is a mini Pilot or Fitnessista 🙂

  14. christina cadden on July 13, 2011 at 10:23 pm

Your so pretty! I can not wait to hear what you are having!

  15. emily on July 14, 2011 at 12:32 am

Are those lulu tanks? one in every color??

    • Fitnessista on July 14, 2011 at 12:48 am

yes they’re the power y tank 🙂 i have a pretty hefty lulu tank collection

  16. Megan on July 14, 2011 at 8:21 am

You are glowing! How amazing. And how lucky to have ditched the sweets craving. That’s literally ALL I wanted my first pregnancy.

  17. Katherina @ Zephyr Runs on July 14, 2011 at 8:33 am

I’m so impressed with your pregnancy… no sweets, good food, exercise… it’s great!

  18. LisaG on July 14, 2011 at 9:01 am

You are doing great and look so pretty and healthy. I can’t tell if you are having a boy or girl. I can see you with either. With my boy I carried weight all around; and with my girl (also a January baby) carried weight mainly in my front. Can’t wait to find out!

  19. Debbie on July 14, 2011 at 10:24 am

I carried my girl high and my boy low, but he was the second one and I just figured everything was going South by that time! 🙂

  20. April on July 14, 2011 at 10:27 am

I love seeing your belly grow, you look amazing, but you know that, hee hee:)

I love all the wives tales on gender…i wonder if you need to wait until you get bigger to see how you carry? I dunno, just a thought cuz i feel like in the beginning most women pooch out at the same spot, but then grow into either high or low. I could be TOTALLY off base, ha ha.
We aren’t finding the sex out, but i love to try all the ‘tricks’ to see if i can guess. Oh, you definitley need to ask your acupuncturist what he/she thinks by your pulse. You may have to wait a few weeks, but my acu is able to ‘guess’ gender by the pulse on each wrist, fun huh???? Or better yet, don’t tell him/her when you find out and see if they get it right.
I am SO excited to hear what you are having, along with everyone else!

    • Fitnessista on July 14, 2011 at 10:30 am

my acupuncturist has already said he thinks it’s a girl twice. so we shall see 🙂

  21. Kelli on July 14, 2011 at 10:35 am

I have one of each (girl and boy ) and they both carried the opposite of what they were “suppose ” to LOL I ‘m guessing boy for you I hope you get to find out on Friday!!

  22. Kathie on July 14, 2011 at 11:52 am

With my daughter (three years ago), I carried HIGH and round so you knew from the back I was preggo. However, with my carrying my son( I am now 6 months along), I am carrying HIGH and all in front (cant even tell from the back i’m preggo.

It is my experience from those around me and from what i’ve seen/heard around my neck of the woods that if you’re high and out in front, it’s a boy. if you carry low and all around (or even high and all around) you are carrying a girl. So far, each instance has been right. *Shrug* Isnt it fun to try to guess? :o)

  23. Kathie on July 14, 2011 at 11:56 am

oh, i hit send too soon..oops!!!

Belly Bands – They are FAB when you are still fitting in your jeans but jsut cant button/zip them.

Belly Button – Sounds like you have an innie? I do too. Girl, with my first, it popped out during pregnancy. Never fully but it leveled out so to speak. With this one…here we go again!!! It leveled out with the belly but the top part sticks out a bit. I can so relate. But in my case, i really dislike those full belly band supports until im in my third trimester. they are, for me, a bit uncomfortable til then and so I just let it POP so to speak. haha!!!!

Sugary Sweets – I used to indulge here and there and with this pregnancy..makes my stomach TURN! =(

Coffee – I was a BIG coffee drinker pre-pregnancy and with this one, I dont need it. Actually I only drink 4oz of it once a day to keep the caffeine headache away.

So happy for you two and that i get to be included in it all via your blog. 🙂 You’re adorable!

  24. Kristine @ Running On Hungry on July 14, 2011 at 1:18 pm

Aside from the fact that you have an adorable little belly and I really want you to have a mini-Fitnessista, I love all of the power-y tanks you’re rocking in these belly pics!

  25. Janiek on July 14, 2011 at 2:40 pm

Just to make you a little more comfortable: You’re definetly not in limbo anymore, for sure!! These belly posts are my favourite thing right now, it’s just so exiting to see it grow!! (It’s the one time in your life when a growing belly is a good thing haha)

  26. mama on July 14, 2011 at 2:46 pm

i carried really high with my first pregnancy too! The bonus is your clothes fit longer! I also worked out until the day i delivered and was back in pre-preg clothes within 6 weeks! I’m sure you will be too! Luv hearing about it all from you!

  27. Heather on July 14, 2011 at 3:43 pm

    Cutest. Pregnant Woman. Everrrr. 🙂

  28. Amyg on July 14, 2011 at 3:51 pm

    two things!
    1) I got the heart rate thing i got on EBAY. heard the heartbeat, this thing is the best $55 i have ever spent!!!! a quick listen every other day will make me feel so much better

    2) I got the belly band at target.. and i can wear all my regular pants now! love it! only thing, it slips if you sit down, get up, sit down… so youll have to adjust

    😉

i love your baby bump! my bump is high too! hmmmmm…. 😉

again, love these posts…. its nice to hear 😉

  29. geetha on July 14, 2011 at 4:25 pm

Cute baby bump and nice pregnancy glow on your face…nice to see the progression pictures…love the pop of color in each of those pictures.
no stories to share :)……………. but guessing it might be a cutesy lil’ fitnessista!!!!…a mini u!!!….can’t wait!!! 🙂

  30. Sabrina on July 15, 2011 at 2:10 am

You look both fabulous and adorable. Hopefully the headaches are just a second trimester “treat” and will go away soon – I had the same issue and my OB said a cup of coffee was the best way to deal with what she called the second trimester mini-migraines.

    • Fitnessista on July 15, 2011 at 11:15 am

that’s good to know! it seems to work and i don’t want to take tylenol or anything for it

  31. nicole on July 15, 2011 at 2:24 pm

Hey since your hubs is in the military I thought I should tell you a little known gem… that the insurance will pay for you to get your prenatal massages, you just need to have your OB/midwife put in a referral for it and they will send you to a physical therapy place to get them. It saved us a ton of money on our second kid….it was something I wish I would have known during my first pregnancy. Hope that info helps you. love your blog 🙂

  32. alli on July 19, 2011 at 12:37 pm

you’re so cute! 🙂 i carried really high, too. my midwife said it was because i had stellar core/ab strength that kept baby in and up…if that make sense. i liked the compliment so i ran with it 🙂 but i really do believe it!

    • Fitnessista on July 19, 2011 at 3:32 pm

i’m going to run with that too 🙂
