10 Ways to Make August Awesome

by Fitnessista on August 1, 2011

in list, something to do,something to talk about

1. Have something to look forward to (for me: Healthy Living Summit! So soon!)- write it down.

2. Create a goal for the month. Going to practice yoga “x” amount of times in August? Make a check-off list and keep track! Also, it’s kind of fun and empowering to check things off a list :)

3. Plan a dinner party. Even if you’re never done it before (or haven’t in a year!! yikers – moving all over the place can put a damper on your social life, fo sho), go for it. Plan a simple menu, invite some friends over and you’ll be so glad you did :) We’re in the midst of planning a legendary housewarming party ;)

4. Go through your summer clothes and determine which ones you’d like to get rid of before storing the rest for fall and winter. It will make the job of storing your clothes much easier when fall is actually here, and also give you some time to donate or sell via consignment. Whatever you sell, you can use the money for new cold-weather clothes! Or save it. ;)

5. Go for a swim! It’s nice to swim (or float on a raft, in my case) when it’s still nice out- take advantage :)

6. Pick up a new cookbook to try this month, or borrow one from a friend. It’s an easy way to refresh your eats and try out new methods or ingredients.

7. Sign up for a fitness event with a friend. Right now is a great time to start training for longer spring races (like the Disney Princess Half Marathon!), so it’s a great way to prepare for the event while staying motivated over the holiday season.

8. Scope out some new jeans for fall. Nothing says autumn like a pair of dark, crispy, new denim <3

9. Go out for a girls night :D Movies, dinner/cocktails, Sex and the City marathon, whatever. Girls nights are great for the soul… plus the Pilot is a good sport, but some things he just doesn’t understand.

10. Eat a pizookie. Every time I post a pic of one, my mind is always blown by the amount of people who say they’ve never had a pizookie.

All ya do is:

-Press your favorite cookie dough into the bottom of a deep dish pizza pan or tart pan (I almost always use *this dough*)

-Bake *almost* all the way, so it’s still gooey inside

-Top with ice cream of choice and chocolate chips

-Yell: Pizookie! Pizookie! PIZOOOOOOOOOKIE!

-And eat it, while enjoying the best foodgasm life has to offer ;)

I am turning 30! EEK! That’s one way I’ll *try* to make it awesome.

Otherwise I’m with you on making some goals and throwing out / donating old clothes. Time to clear out some closet space!

I need to start commenting more because i enjoy reading your blog so, so much! My dad always leaves a note on the kitchen table the first of every month that says “It’s (the current month) 1st, what are you going to change today?” It always motivates me and this post reminded me of that! Happy August!
Kara :)

Oooh I LOVE the Pizookie. I recently had BJ’s red velvet Pizookie for the first time. Wow, wow, wow. Yum. Need to develop a recipe so I can make it at home asap!

I love lists! This is great inspiration. I think I’ll write my own August list!

Add me to the list of people who has never had a pizookie—but I think I might fix that soon ; )

I’m making the most of this month before school starts up again (I’m a teacher)! A little more traveling, a lot more sleeping in and sitting by the pool—you know, the good stuff!

Hi Gina. I read your blog all the time, but I hardly ever comment. I guess you could call me a healthy living blogger lurker, or something like that! Ha. Any-hoo, just wanted to say that I love your blog, and that this post was just what I needed today. I’m going through a breakup right now, and I’ve been thinking about fun and positive changes I can make in my life!! Thank you!!!

Before I had even read this post, I had made my own August list while waiting in docs office this morning. I share quite a few with you, but have another handful of my own. Another I would like to add to the list is to visit the doctor as little as possible. It bothers me when no one can get to the root of the problem. I wonder if holistic is the way to go?

I am looking forward to jeans, crisp weather, and apple picking this fall. :)

homeopathy works wonders for some people, does nothing for others. it was a great choice for me, but definitely educate yourself and get a few professional opinions before deciding. hope you get it figured out soon!

Pizookie! Pizookie! = I want to yell that right now! Except I have to leave for the airport and have no time to make that. Thanks for the refresher on Pizookie! Pizookie! I had forgotten about those!!

And love the suggestions for the month…donating, decluttering, and organizing is HUGE for me. I love to stay on top of those projects. Space is at an absolute premium here so getting rid of things we dont use and passing them on to someone who CAN use them is key!

Can’t wait to read about all the faboosh dinner parties you host coming up :)

Congrats on moving in!!!

You probably get this question alot, but is it ok to do all those workouts whilst preggo? Are you afraid sometime cuz of all the moving and bouncing around while zumba-ing?

Reply

Fitnessista August 1, 2011 at 5:06 pm

docs said i could keep doing whatever i was doing before- zumba-ing still feels really good! you can read about how my workouts have changed in this post: http://fitnessista.com/2011/06/how-my-workouts-have-changed-1st-trimester/

These are all great! There seems to be something about August that gets people re-motivated. My office is all abuzz with summer goals today!

I’m going to make August awesome by selling at least one painting and get at least one commission from the West End Event I will be participating in. I am an artist and am building up my animal portrait portfolio. It’s also going to be awesome because I get to start on my Day of the Dead series. Oh and two camping trips!

And pizookie’s are amazing. I never made one at home, but that will have to be fixed :) I also got to declutter the closets and house. Thank you for the reminder.

My hubby and I are hosting a game night this month! We do this every couple of months with some other couples we are friends with and this time it is our turn to host. Can’t wait! I also plan to go through our clothing (all seasons) to see what we can donate. I’m also going to make August last as long as possible since school starts up next month! I need to add work on my classroom to my list!

I love the idea of long range planning for a race in the spring. I’ve always wanted to try a 10k or half-marathon. I think I will be looking at future spring races and alsoooo the dinner party and pizcookie because everyone needs fun in their life!

I have a BIG goal for August: land my first big girl job. I have been working on so many applications and have prepared for interviews and even have my own new apartment. Now…I just need an offer. :)

I have worked so hard for this, and I have a feeling that August is going to turn out well. So that’s my goal. And I am going to take EVERY step necessary to get there.

Happy August!

I’m going to make my August awesome by meeting my weightloss goals (SO close!) and then cleaning out my closet of the clothes that no longer fit and taking them to either goodwill (donations) or platos closet (for cash)!

:)

Great ideas to make August awesome. Pizookies are so amazing-I made one the other day after my cookies melted in the oven due to the humidity (not complaining completely!). I’m planning on a couple day trips this month and that’ll make this month a sure winner =)
