I cheated on my high school last night.

My bro, the Pilot and I met up with the fam (cousins, aunts, uncles, parents, nana) to watch my little bro’s football game. He plays varsity (and is only a freshman- impressive stuff!), for my alma mater’s rival school.

So there were Kyle and I, sporting the “other team’s” colors to support the bro, who played amazingly.

Going to a high school football game as an adult is wayyyy different than going in high school. It was nice to enjoy the game instead of worrying about making sure all of the signs and banners were ready to go and fundraising [student council nerd].  I did sing my high school’s fight song when the band came over to our side, though 😉

I don’t have a fun dinner to show you, since the last three meals of my life have been breakfast-related.

Eggs and millet bread with almond butter and jelly for late-afternoon meal:

snack 

brown rice cereal before bed

and this morning, some pumpkin protein oats.

oats 

-1/2 C oats

-1/2 C pumpkin

-1/2 scoop Sun Warrior

-almond milk to thin it out

-Cinnamon, nutmeg and stevia

-Chocolate chips for *garnish*

*A few people have asked about when to add the pumpkin to the oats. I add it when the oats are pretty much finished cooking and turn the heat down- otherwise they’ll splatter

I’m off to a long and favorite day of teaching! Buff booty, cardio + weights, and ZUMBA, with some assisting and weight room shifts in there. Should be a good time 🙂

[As always, check with a doc before making any fitness changes]

Add this one in after a cardio session, or randomly during the day for a little toning boost. Repeat if you’re feeling a little spunky:

Frog crunches- 25

-Hanging leg raises (or supine leg raises)- 25

Circle obliques (almost all the way down the page, in the pink top, thumbs into chest. Rotate torso off floor in a circular motio, targeting the obliques) – 25 each direction

-Rotational spider plank- 15 total reps

    I kind of laughed out loud that during football games you were worried about signs and banners b/c my biggest “worry” was definitely more around the concept of boys and *shennanigans* behind the bleachers 😉 haha!

    I second Christina’s comment!!! You look cute in every outfit and have such a positive attitude, it’s very refreshing. FYI- Trying your pumpkin protein oats as we speak, they look delish! Can I just say, I LOVE fall. I had the BEST Pumpkin Curry the other night when I was out over jasmine rice, it was phenomenal. I’m reminded how versatile pumpkin is and how I love it in almost everything I try 🙂

    Have you tried the Jasmine Red Rice bread loaf (same brand name : food for life). I can’t find millet. But I’ve tried the brown rice and that is fine. Only other options I have found are the jasmine red rice, rice pecan, rice almond, etc.

    Suggestions for a daily workout strengthening routine sans gym or equipment (other than 5 lbs dumbbells 🙁

    I like Jamie Eason’s Live Fit Trainer 12 week plan on their site, but I can’t figure half of it out when a lot of it needs gym equipment. Frustrating. I want to actually do stuff and not feel that I’m just “making do”. I’ve heard that book New Rules of Weight Lifting is good too (but again: needs equipment).

    Congrats on the Shape Blogger Awards! It would be interesting to go back to my high school for a football game…it’s a totally different environment than professional sports. And way to go to your bro; varsity as a frosh is a HUGE accomplishment. Best of luck to him!

    I was wondering your thoughts on caffeine as a “performance enhancer”? I just read this article: http://www.nytimes.com/2009/03/26/health/nutrition/26best.html and was thinking about how caffeine is supposedly not the best for you, but at the same time seems proven to boost athletic performance.

    I know you aren’t a big consumer of caffeine, but do you have any thoughts on this? Might be a good blog post or at least something to touch on 🙂 (sorry if you have already discussed this – I read most of your posts but not all!)

    And going back to a h.s. football game as an adult..wow, that must be surreal. I live on the other side of the country from my h.s. so have never done that but I bet it would be a fantastic trip down memory lane. Glad you had fun!

    I used to love HS football games because they gave us the afternoon off classes to go watch them once the playoff games started. 😀 It would be so weird to go back though!

    He he, my brother and I graduated from rival high schools too and I thought it was funny to wear my old team’s colors to his games… unless he was playing my school, then I wore neither color and cheered for both sides.
    And my goodness, I’m going to have to try that pumpkin oatmeal!
