Forgotten fruit

Hey guys! I’m so glad you enjoyed the holiday gift guide. There are some gift ideas on the Family page, too, and I’ll post one for the dudes next Monday.

It was a great day today <3

Kinda weird that the Pilot had to go to work –I got used to having him around after 4 days- but it was a day full of productivity,

computer

morning cardio (elliptical) + an afternoon walk with my favorite furry face

walk2

and lunch with my friend Liz at Create Cafe, which I’ve never tried before.

wrap

One of the amazing things about being in the city where I grew up is that I know where “all of the good places are.” But on the other hand, I end up rotating between the 10 or so places that we’ve gone to forever and know we love. Obviously I’ve been missing out, as you can see from the above pic: sweet potato fries and a Greek wrap on a brown rice tortilla.

We need to expand our horizons a little on a restaurant front, especially since Tucson has so many incredible local gems.

When I got home from lunch, I couldn’t figure out why my purse was so heavy. I dug around and found a rogue apple that has been in there since Saturday.

apple

He was a little banged up, so I made a baked apple (chopped, topped with cinnamon and microwaved for 2 minutes) for a little sweet treat.

Another snack:

toast

Almond butter and jelly never gets old.

I’m about to make a cup of tea –we bought this K Cup coffee maker yesterday and I’ve used it at least 6 times since then. I haven’t found a K Cup that I want to try yet, so I’ll just make hot water (2 minutes!) and add a tea bag or tea ball of herbs-

k cup

and do the email thang.

Have a lovely night!

xoxo

Gina

What’s the last random thing you found in your purse? I’ve been known to carry around a giant container of red pepper flakes…

I found Twinings Earl Grey & Green tea in K cups at Kroger stores in Texas. I have a exact same machine and have loved the tea option. You have a good night as well.

My son would find small gravel rocks on the sidewalk and give them to me to hold….in the purse they went, and soon forgotten.

  3. Kristen @ Chocolate Covered Kristen on November 28, 2011 at 10:15 pm

Friday night at dinner I reached into my bag for chap stick and found a container of decorative cocoa pearls… ummm, someone has been doing too much baking.

  4. Lacey on November 28, 2011 at 10:16 pm

My Husband and I have the exact same Keurig…..it’s amazing….and to us, all other coffee taste like garb….even *GASP* startbucks!! Hope you and the Pilot enjoy it as much as we do!!

  5. Dominique on November 28, 2011 at 10:17 pm

One time I posted about all the stuff in my purse. I think the weirdest thing out of the stuff I found was a bag of microwaveable popcorn. Hey, you never know when you’re gonna get a craving! Sean and I have been looking at getting a coffee maker but I’m not a daily drinker (tea is my thang) and neither is he–I don’t think. I’ve been debating between a Keurig-type or a french press. I love that the one you have is sleek looking. Most of the ones I’ve seen are huge and clunky looking and will probably take up too much space on the counter.

      they make smaller ones!

  6. Tess on November 28, 2011 at 10:18 pm

I forget apples in my purse a lot (I have a love of all things apple). Even without the apples, I always have a heavy purse – my husband calls it “Big Bertha.” The coffee maker looks awesome – I am sure ya’ll will enjoy it!

  7. Annette @ with a side of brownies on November 28, 2011 at 10:20 pm

I once had two sample bottles of olive oil that I was given at a grocery store. A few months later I went to the court house to get birth certificates for my sons the security guard peeked on my purse and found them, oops. I also carry toy cars and mini books for when the kids get bore:)

i’m pretty anal about keeping my purse uncluttered, but i have found money in purses that i don’t use for a while and then take back out. that’s always fun! 🙂

  9. Faith @ For the Health of It on November 28, 2011 at 10:33 pm

I just pulled a couple mustard packets out of it the other day…it’s huge so its a dumping ground for all sorts of stuff!

  10. Laura @ She Eats Well on November 28, 2011 at 10:44 pm

I am the Splenda Queen. Or I was a while ago. Now I use stevia drops. But when I was all about splenda, I’d discover sweetener packs in my gym bag, work bag, and purses.

  11. Caity @ Moi Contre La Vie on November 28, 2011 at 10:47 pm

Gluten-free soy sauce & packets of almond butter! 🙂 Gotta love food allergies.

They sell reusable K cup filters that you can fill with your own coffee, anything you choose: http://www.amazon.com/Keurig-K-Cup-Reusable-Coffee-Filter/dp/B000DLB2FI/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1322538331&sr=8-2 . Wonder if you can use this filter for tea as well? Way better for the environment to use a reusable K cup and avoid dumping all those disposable K cups in landfills. Way cheaper too. 🙂

    • Fitnessista on November 28, 2011 at 11:02 pm

yep, we were planning on getting a re-usable one once i figure out how to do tea with it

      • Lacey on November 28, 2011 at 11:23 pm

The one you have (cuisinart) already has a reusable filter in it…at least ours did…it’s on the left hand side of it…you just push the little door and it should pop right out!! just to save you from buying onther one!:)

        • Lacey on November 28, 2011 at 11:24 pm

oops, not the left…it should be on the right! sorry..

          • Fitnessista on November 28, 2011 at 11:28 pm

oh good to know- thank you!

  13. Kristin on November 28, 2011 at 10:57 pm

I also found an apple in my purse, but it was unfortunately cut up in a container and had been there for a week and a half. Not salvageable.
I’ve never tried baked apple but it sounds very fall-y.

  14. Lena @Fit on the Rocks on November 28, 2011 at 11:03 pm

I get caught with my dog’s stuff in my purse all the time. I’ll tell my friend to grab something out of my purse, and out pops a bone hahaha. My sister carries a bottle of Tabasco with her at all times…

  15. Jessica @ The Process of Healing on November 28, 2011 at 11:22 pm

I actually found TWO apples in my purse the other day.. I tend to frequent Panera, get an apple as my side but never eat it and just shove it in my purse.. only to be found later!

  16. Esther on November 28, 2011 at 11:48 pm

Lol….the end of your post was so funny….”I’ve been known to carry around a giant container of red pepper flakes”. I have found apples several times in my gym bags, and I have to say you are so lucky that your apple was still edible! They can leave quite a stinch. Btw I LOVE your pink laptop….I totally want one now!

  17. Katelyn @ Chef Katelyn on November 29, 2011 at 1:04 am

Ahahah I love it. I literally use my coffee maker 29034802938 times a day. It’s an issue. Also your laptop is freaking adorable. PINK! <3

  18. Carrie on November 29, 2011 at 1:42 am

LOL at “rogue apple”…that’s freakin’ hilarious…

The weirdest thing i’ve found in the purse was an expired Pepper Spray for dogwalking, parking lots, etc. Other popular items include uncapped eyeliner (ick), “rogue” gum (lol again!), half-eaten Mojo-, Lara-, or Z bars, and, of course, lone Advil.

Your KCup maker is awesome! Want one!!!!

  19. Jen @ luckandfunny on November 29, 2011 at 1:53 am

I found a bottle of gluten free soy sauce the last time I swapped out handbags.

  20. Amanda on November 29, 2011 at 3:57 am

Most random thing I’ve found in my purse….. probably that mini bag of M&M’s from halloween (score!) and a dilbert comic.

  21. Juliane @ C'est moi à Paris on November 29, 2011 at 4:55 am

I constantely find food in my purse since I never leave the house without snacks. A few almonds here, an apple there,… The most horrible thing was an old and smashed peach. Gross!

  22. Averie @ Love Veggies and Yoga on November 29, 2011 at 5:07 am

I like your coffee/tea maker. Nice!

Most random thing? Stevia packets, mints that are 2 years old and a nail file that has purse dust embedded on it. As if I’m ever going to really file my nails with that…Lol.

  23. Emily on November 29, 2011 at 8:20 am

I can’t wait for your guys gift guide. I am kinda stumped on the “something special” to get for my husband for our first MARRIED Christmas.
Enjoy your k-cup brewer. FYI – they make a k-cup filter for those things so you can use your own coffee or tea without buying a million little cups! Now we buy both since a pound of coffee is so much less expensive than that much coffee in k-cups!

  24. Chelsea @ One Healthy Munchkin on November 29, 2011 at 8:30 am

Haha I always find old apples in my purse too. And unfortunately sometimes they’re so bruised that they’re past the point of eating. 😛

  25. Janine @ThePurpleGiraffe on November 29, 2011 at 8:31 am

I used to carry tabasco sauce and krazy glue on the reg!

  26. HRCK on November 29, 2011 at 9:03 am

Love love finding forgotten snacks in my bag. It’s such an unexpected treat 🙂

  27. SweatyGirl on November 29, 2011 at 9:07 am

Ha! I have found many a forgotten fruit in my purse as well! Sometimes, it’s a bit concerning! Sometimes, it’s a delicious surprise!

  28. Heather on November 29, 2011 at 9:43 am

I always have a smoked salt grinder in my purse. The boy thinks I am crazy, but he always makes sure I have it before we go out to eat, lest I pout how much reg salt sucks. I assume you get weird looks when you whip out your red pepper flakes like I do when I take out my “snob salt”

  29. Ali on November 29, 2011 at 10:51 am

Haha, once I found a tomato in my back pack! I was so upset to, because it was a beautiful heiloom one! Oh well. I agree with you, nut butter and jelly never gets old, have you tried cashew butter?

  30. Marguerite Miller on November 29, 2011 at 11:10 am

I no longer carry a purse! (I have a habit of leaving it everywhere)! So I have my ID and debit/credit cards in my phone case! But when I did carry a purse, I had all kinds of stuff in there! (Always some lollipops or candy) and when i had little ones, there were always the extra diaper and emergency change of clothes! Just perfect for a quart sized zip lock baggie! And little Tupperware containers with baby cereal or formula and a small bottle of water!

  31. Emily @ Glitz Glam Granola on November 29, 2011 at 12:19 pm

Ohhh a brown rice tortilla wrap and sweet potato fries? That is def a food gem! I am the worst when it comes to finding random things in my purse! Often, 2 water bottles or diet cokes fit in there, I’ve been known to find 5 magazines… or the other day when I discovered 6 long necklaces… oops. Not quite sure how it all ends up in there but Kate Spade seems to hide it all!

  32. Christin@purplebirdblog on November 29, 2011 at 1:02 pm

I always have stevia in my purse for coffee emergencies! 🙂

  33. Missy on November 29, 2011 at 4:41 pm

Bigcatcoffees.com has tons of options for k-cups, and you can mix and match your flavors.

    • Fitnessista on November 29, 2011 at 5:44 pm

      thank you!

  34. Heather on November 29, 2011 at 4:59 pm

I found a Thomas train in my purse one time. My 4 yr old dumps stuff in there all the time, last week I found shells and gravel, lol.

  35. elle @ nutritionella on November 29, 2011 at 10:53 pm

Most random items found in my purse: a spoon (which somehow made it through airport security and went on a cross-country flight with me) and a skimpy pair of underwear (found in a purse I hadn’t used in oh, 2 years…)
    🙂
