Nursery Fail

I was excited to get the nursery officially finished this weekend, but it looks like it may have to wait a while longer.

Most of the time, online shopping is a major win (shopping in PJs and delivered to my door- what’s not to love?)

ottoman

but this time, it was a little bit of a fail.

I ordered the Scroll Puff Rocker and ottoman from this site, and it took 1 day short of 5 weeks to get here. The chair is beautiful, but the fabric is a little rough. Literally.

chair

What arrived is like weaved thick burlap, and more of a greyish brown than a chocolate brown. It kind of looks like grandpa’s couch.

It’s really hard to tell colors from computer monitors, and this one doesn’t match like I thought it would. Hopefully I’ll be able to exchange it for another color –going to call and ask on Monday- and if not, we’ll make it work. The good news is that it isn’t a major thing for the nursery, just something that will be nice to have since I’ll be spending a lot of time in there. When the Pilot has to fly the next day, I’ll most likely sleep in the nursery with the baby so we don’t mess up his crew rest (required amount of sleep to safely fly).

Comfort-wise, the chair is FANTASTIC, but color… fail.

In more fun news, we got to kiss this little thing today:

viesa

VIESA!

And I found a warm, cozy jacket for the baby. I’ve been looking for one since it will definitely be cold when she gets here and found this at Gymboree:

jacket

Gymboree, on sale, and ears on the hood <—all things that are good.

What was your last online shopping fiasco? I had a pretty legendary one when I had my Mophie iPhone adapter (for Dance Trance payments) accidentally sent to Valdosta… and we didn’t live there anymore. I finally got it here in Tucson and it was the wrong model, so I had to order another one anyway.

Bahaha I love anything with ears on the hood. Instant heart melt 🙂

I can’t wait to see your little girl in that coat!

  3. Megan Infantino on December 10, 2011 at 9:20 pm

Monitors definitely tend to skew colors. Hopefully they’ll let you exchange it for a different color 🙂

Ok, so I’m obsessed with anything with ears on the hood, let alone an OWL?! (I think??) I love owls. Too freakin’ cute.

    • Fitnessista on December 11, 2011 at 1:57 am

      yup, an owl!

Ooohh Viesa! I miss my dog so badly. I’m going to be away from home for a year. It’s difficult. I can call or skype with my family, but not my dog.

First of all, burlap = ew. Second of all, I am a fan of the jacket. SO cute. ears = necessary.

We just bought a toddler bed that was supposed to be “espresso” colored and when it arrived it was red mahogany and not pretty at all. And it’s in 3 huge boxes and going to be annoying to ship back. Oh well, could be worse. But pretty annoying none the less.

    • Fitnessista on December 11, 2011 at 1:56 am

it’s definitely a hassle more than anything else :/

  8. Michelle on December 10, 2011 at 9:44 pm

I like that chair! See, computer monitors are screwy! You might want to get something with arm rests too. I got mothers elbow(s) from nursing. It was nice to rest on. Plus I’d fall asleep quit often, nice to know my arm was secure somewhere and didn’t flop over and drop Alivia.
    Just more unsolisited advise,

    • Kim on December 10, 2011 at 10:22 pm

I agree! Arm rests are a must during middle of the night, sleepy nursing sessions.

      • Ana on December 11, 2011 at 9:30 am

I will third the arm rest, definitely helpful when feeding, holding baby in the chair at night.

you don’t think the boppy will be a good-enough substitute? eep. haha

          • kayla on December 11, 2011 at 8:36 pm

I work in the nursery at a daycare, I prefer to use a rocking chair with armrests plus boppy, but all the other girls just sit on the floor with the boppy and have no problems or complaints about not having an arm rest.

    • Lea on December 12, 2011 at 4:01 am

I agree with the arm rests too! I cant imagine nursing in my chair with my boppy in the middle of the night without arm rests.

I ordered one of those Urban Decay Naked Palettes from Ulta that everyone was going crazy for, and it was taking way too long for it to come in the mail. I called Ulta’s customer service and they said that they lost it, and they were sold out, but they would be willing to give me store credit. I told them that there’s no way I was going to accept store credit and they must know how to get one somewhere. I turned into one of those crazy people that yell at customer service clerks and explained that it was their fault and someone should have told me it was lost instead of waiting for me to call. Then they magically “found” one and sent it right away.

  12. katelyn on December 10, 2011 at 10:29 pm

Dance Trance! I forgot about that! How is that going?
I love when people review products (Lululemon and anthro both have good reviews from customers that make online shopping so much easier!)- too bad they did warn you about the burlap!

    • Fitnessista on December 11, 2011 at 1:55 am

i stopped teaching when i got pregnant because with that and teaching at the resort, it was going to be too much physically for me. for dance trance you have to go full out, and i didn’t want to fake it 😉

Latest online shopping fiasco but that term might be dramatic– I ordered several dresses and a sweater from Modcloth.com (saw the ads on my facebook sidebar and they have really cute inexpensive clothes). I got rush delivery so I could wear the sweater on thanksgiving since I ordered it late even though its normally free delivery. The four dresses were there…but no sweater. Instead was a floral summery dress in my size instead. Luckily one of the other dresses I ordered was mustard yellow and perfect for Thanksgiving, but I was mad I got rush delivery and they didn’t even include what I wanted rushed. I planned on calling to complain and get reimbured after the holiday, but honestly the dress I got by mistake was pretty cute. I decided it was divine intervention and just let it be. haha

    • Fitnessista on December 11, 2011 at 1:55 am

haha sometimes things are supposed to happen like that 😉

  14. Averie @ Love Veggies and Yoga on December 10, 2011 at 11:05 pm

Ugh that sucks about the 5 weeks and it’s still not really what you wanted situation. Oh how I hate things like that.

I frequently order photography or camera stuff, only to get it finally delivered, and it’s not what I thought…like backdrops, or certain straps or cases…another one is clothes online. In general, I am not a fan. Things are never quite as nice in person as I thought they’d be or don’t match up to the photographs the site uses..i.e. burlap and grandpa’s couch rather than what you thought.

I hope things work out for you!

  15. caryn on December 11, 2011 at 12:11 am

the shapes of the chair and ottoman cushions look pretty basic (at least from the angle of the photo…maybe i’m wrong though!). could you find a seamstress or someplace who/that could just sew a cover? you could pick out the fabric and it’d be easier to wash! just a thought. 🙂 lovely chair though. & the coat is super cute too! i wish adults could get away with animals and ears on the hood… 🙂

  16. Molly on December 11, 2011 at 12:48 am

maybe you could get slip covers for the rocker?

    • Fitnessista on December 11, 2011 at 1:54 am

yeah if they won’t let us exchange it, that’s a great plan!

  17. Ali on December 11, 2011 at 2:04 am

Aww, I am so sorry for the on line shopping fail. Hopefully you get to exchange it for something more your style, and more comfortable!

  18. OntarioGirl on December 11, 2011 at 6:14 am

I was going to suggest the same thing as a few people above. Maybe find someone (family member?) who sews to recover it in a nicer fabric since you love the chair itself. Then you also don’t have to wait another 5 weeks. That material doesn’t look very nice at all 🙁 Or slipcovers like someone suggested.
Baby clothes are so adorable, especially with ears on the hood! *dies*

  19. Allison on December 11, 2011 at 7:00 am

ADORABLE jacket! I have a much younger half-sister and I love shopping for her 😀 There’s a really cute store in our mall called Janie and Jack [http://www.janieandjack.com/index.jsp] that I’ve found a bunch of fun things [and they have good sales]!

  20. Katie on December 11, 2011 at 8:02 am

The little pink jacket you got her is SO cute! Seriously, having a little girl you will be wanting to buy her so many cute clothes! Sorry about the chair, and what a hassle if they let you return it : p

  21. Chelsea @ One Healthy Munchkin on December 11, 2011 at 8:08 am

Oh my gosh, that jacket is the cutest! You’re going to have one stylish baby. 😀

  22. Kaila @healthyhelperblog! on December 11, 2011 at 8:41 am

Awww that pink jacket is so sweet! I love baby clothes!

  23. Amy on December 11, 2011 at 8:49 am

Hmm, I guess I get that computer monitors can throw the color, because I think this doesn’t look too bad! But the scratchy fabric is no fun

  24. mary on December 11, 2011 at 5:32 pm

It sounds like that site will say it was custom and non-returnable. New cushions will cost over $200. I’d toss a soft throw on it and see if it suffices. If not, get something with arms and use this one in the spare bedroom or office. The chair is cute. Maybe you could dye the fabric more of a chocolate brown? Or maybe someone on Craigslist is willing to pay close to retail for it, as is. Or ebay if it collapses pretty flat and is light.

    • Fitnessista on December 11, 2011 at 6:09 pm

that’s a great point. i was going to call them and see what they say about it -just bummed because if it arrived when they said it would, i could have done something earlier instead of being in crunch time- and if anything, will just have a cover made for it in a color that i like.

  25. mary on December 11, 2011 at 8:08 pm

Yeah, I hear ya. I hate slow shipping. If it’s any consolation, the ‘hard to console’ phase for babies seems to not start until they’re like a month old (says my mom who had 5). She didn’t come to town to help me until then and sure enough that’s when the colicky, endless rocking seemed to come about. And of course the babies seem to want rocked standing anyway, so don’t stress too much if you don’t have a rocker or glider by day one! The rocking motion is probably more of a soothing thing for bored, tired mom than baby at first, anyway. ; )

    • Fitnessista on December 11, 2011 at 10:02 pm

ohhh ok, good to know it’s not a necessity right away. we’ll see what happens…. 🙂

  26. Lyndsay on December 11, 2011 at 9:33 pm

I ordered a quilt (and a splurge quilt at that!) for our bed that was supposed to take 6 weeks, and instead took 4 months. It got here and is about four inches off in length and width. I painted out room, and made curtains and a head board to match/coordinate with this quilt, so I don’t really want to find something else and It just looks goofy on our bed–like pants that are just a little too short. Huge bummer because it was too expensive to be used as a throw, and too small to look nice and to cover me and hubby comfortably at night. That was my online order fail.

On another note, could you (or a crafty friend) “reupholster” or make a slip cover for the chair? I imagine it wouldn’t be terribly hard and you can find some cute and comfy fabirc for pretty cheap if you can’t exchane or return it.

    • Fitnessista on December 11, 2011 at 10:03 pm

ugh, that’s such a bummer!!! they couldn’t do an exchange because the measurements are off?
yeah that’s a great idea- we have an amazing seamstress in our family, so worst case, i could buy some fabric and ask her to help our poor chair

  27. Lisa @ Fresh Spinach on December 12, 2011 at 12:53 pm

We had a lot of trouble with our fine wedding china. They sent a lot of the wrong color, right shape or right color and wrong shape. So frustrating!

  28. Candice on December 12, 2011 at 3:26 pm

So cute!! dang on the matchy match issue!
My recommendation.. Get a chair that has arm rest.. They are much needed for nursing mommas.
    Owls are my favorite!

Gina, that little sweatshirt is BEYOND adorable! So exciting that your little nugget is almost here. 🙂

Totally random question – what kind of dog is Viesa? What a beautiful, sweet looking love of a dog! I’m thinking of adopting…

I’m a new reader and noticed this post…my sister-in-law has this same chair in her babies room but its the one in the fur which is kind of a natural color. It is beautiful and so soft and comfy. 🙂

  32. Amy on September 24, 2012 at 9:35 am

Ive been thinking of getting a puff rock as well. How is it without arms though? I’m planning on nursing my little guy and I was thinking that arms might be useful but I don’t think there are arms that go with this chair. Have you liked it?

    • Fitnessista on September 24, 2012 at 10:59 am

i sent it back- didn’t like it at all
