Hip hop anonymous

Friday, it’s good to see ya.

It’s been a crazy couple of weeks! We’re wrapping up 2 weeks of night flying with the Pilot, which was after him being gone for 2 weeks, so I’m excited to hang out with him again on a regular basis. This week, he’s come home in the middle of the night and slept most of the day, so I’ve missed my friend, and I worry sick about him when he flies at night. I guess it’s just something you never get used to. The only thing I can do is be thankful that he’s here, even though I don’t remember saying a groggy “good night” to him when he comes to bed.

It was also dance week, so lots of things going on at work, including last night’s recital. (My friend I were talking about how it’s funny to say recital after having our last one maybe 10 years ago.) The guests did an incredible job performing the dances they learned this week, and per usual, the instructors got suckered into doing a couple of dances. <–I joke, but we all love it.

Bellydancers

We did the same bellydance we did last time, with a special interlude featuring Amber, who is an amaaaaaaazing bellydancer

 and a hip hop dance.

As always, it was a blast- I’m lucky to have met my work friends through teaching. They inspire me and crack me up everyday.

Eats were pretty random, since I packed as much as I could to take to work including this breakfast cookie cereal and salad:

Cookie cereal and salad

tamale and eggs,

Tamale and eggs

and we were also greeted by a beautiful cornucopia of goodies, courtesy of a family that lives on property.

Chocolate-covered raisins and almonds (I had about 1400), clementines (my fave!), strawberries, peaches, cookies, snack stix, peanut butter pretzels, etc…

Tjs snacks

This morning, the Pilot is home so we’re going to enjoy brunch together. Hope you have a happy Friday!

xoxo

Gina

Something to talk about: Are you comfortable showing your midriff or notsomuch? I’ve never been a huge fan of it, and will usually put my swim coverup on the second I’m out of the water. I recently got a press email for a bare 5k, and hats off to those who have done something similar! I think it would be liberating, but it would take a lot of courage to do it.

Something to do: If you missed yesterdays workout, you could always make it a Tabata Friday… 😉

Love this! The first video isn’t working for me, unfortunately 🙁

    • Fitnessista on August 24, 2012 at 12:28 pm

i think it may be banned because there’s a song in the middle w copyright issues blah blah 🙁

  4. Stephanie @ Legally Blinde on August 24, 2012 at 12:34 pm

The first video was blocked for me, but I LOVED watching the hip hop one!!! You ROCKED it out! So fun 🙂 Thanks for sharing! Enjoy brunch with the Pilot, and have a great Friday!

I’m so not okay with showing my midriff. That’s my ultimate fitness goal to one day be comfortable with my stomach. I’m working on it!

  6. Beverly Aragon on August 24, 2012 at 12:48 pm

Holla, git it girlz! Looks like the recital was a hit.

Happy weekend to you and the fam! 🙂

  7. Jenna on August 24, 2012 at 12:51 pm

Wow, that looks like it was so much fun. 🙂

My midriff is probably my least favourite body part so it never sees the light of day!

You all look fab in your bellydancing costumes though, wish I could pull an outfit like that off. 🙂

Have a fab weekend with the Pilot.

Honestly, I think your abs look AMAZING and even more so considering you just popped out a kid. If my post baby bod looks that toned after having kids, I would be walking around with my midriff showing all the time! Not that I’ve ever had too much of a problem showing my stomach – I just figure although it’s not perfect, everyone else is probably too busy worrying about their own to worry much about mine 🙂

  9. Amber @ Busy, Bold, Blessed on August 24, 2012 at 1:04 pm

I don’t mind showing my tummy, but I have to have on some flattering bottoms (no muffin tops please)! I’d still like to tighten up the area, but I love when I get a nice tan stomach.

The first video is blocked because of a copyright on the music. 🙁
But I was able to enjoy the hip hop one.
You guys rocked! Thoroughly enjoyed it here at my cube at work. It lightened up the mood here at the office.
    So thanks for that! 🙂

  11. Erin @ Girl Gone Veggie on August 24, 2012 at 1:52 pm

I’m so glad the Pilot is home safe and sound so you guys can spend time together! And way to rock it in that second video!! What a fun dance.

  12. Irene on August 24, 2012 at 1:52 pm

I tend to gain weight in my hips not my stomach so bare abs are not as big a deal most of the time, but right now I don’t feel the need to show them since I’m up a couple pound from where I’d like to be;)
Gina, I hope this doesn’t sound weird, but your dance training really shows! All the girls are great, and you guys look like you’re having a blast but all your moves are super crisp! nice work!

  13. Sarabell on August 24, 2012 at 2:18 pm

I’m not very comfortable baring midriff either, outside of the pool… and even then I grab my coverup right away too. Just not my cup o tea.
I loved the hip hop performance but the bellydance says it was blocked for copyright. =[

  14. Annette @ FitnessPerks on August 24, 2012 at 2:31 pm

YAY! How fun that you guys do recitals 🙂

Have a fun day with the Pilot!

  15. Deanna on August 24, 2012 at 2:39 pm

I loved that song from Step Up Revolution! Great video of you guys!!!

  16. Averie @ Averie Cooks on August 24, 2012 at 2:44 pm

Love that opening pic of you all! Everyone looks fabulous and I bet it was SO much fun!! Woo-hoo!

Have a great weekend with the fam!

  17. avery on August 24, 2012 at 3:10 pm

I love the recital footage! Totally brings me back to my dance recital days. So exciting! I’ll bet your clients love it.

As for the midriff, I’m totally with ya. I consider myself a pretty fit person, but I just hate my belly being exposed. I’ve been loving the trend pfcute one-piece swim suits. Plus, they stay on a lot better in the pool! You don’t have to worry about a diving board wardrobe malfunctions!

  18. Lisa on August 24, 2012 at 3:42 pm

Glad to hear the pilot is back safe and sound! I’ve never really been a big midriff showing fan, but I do sometimes. I think I just need to be more comfortable in my body and gain self confidence. I did your tabata workout this morning actually! It was awesome!!

  19. Liz @ Southern Charm on August 24, 2012 at 4:20 pm

Right now, I’m not comfortable, but that’s because I’m not comfortable in my body in general. But when I am, and it’s hot, then I will show my mid-drift (like yoga! not at the mall haha)

  20. jodie on August 24, 2012 at 4:25 pm

Awesome, you look like you all have a lot of fun. Would have loved to have seen the belly dance one.:( Hope you are enjoying your day.

  21. Liz on August 24, 2012 at 4:55 pm

Man, Gina you know how to dance! =D

  22. Leslie W on August 24, 2012 at 5:26 pm

    BIG DADDY! Funniest show!

And, btw, my belly didn’t look that good BEFORE babies! You go girl!

  23. Natalie @ freshlifefindings on August 24, 2012 at 7:41 pm

Looks like so much fun! Your midriff looks awesome! Especially for having a baby! 🙂 have a great weekend! Can’t wait to try the tabata video.

  24. Katie on August 24, 2012 at 8:43 pm

All you ladies look great! What a fun recital! 🙂

I’ll totally show my midriff. I have four tattoos around my core area that I’m proud of, but my parents only know of three of them so I usually keep it hidden around them.

  25. jaclyn on August 24, 2012 at 8:48 pm

loved your dance!! so cool! i wish the belly dance vid would work though!

  26. Liz on August 24, 2012 at 11:02 pm

You give him all the easy ones!

    • Fitnessista on August 24, 2012 at 11:33 pm

      Haha!! Yes!!

  27. Britt on August 25, 2012 at 1:14 am

I am so NOT ok with showing my midriff! I tease my mama that I got the ‘hispanic’ belly, and I’d much rather indulge in my nana’s yummy food than rock a bikini hahaha

  28. Nadja on August 25, 2012 at 4:29 am

omg Gina you just dance sooo well! And it just looks as if you’ve never had any child!

    • Fitnessista on August 25, 2012 at 4:23 pm

      aww thank you!

  29. Emm on August 25, 2012 at 8:31 am

You all look great. Love the costumes.
Love the hip hop dance too.. you make it look so easy and fun. Made me want to get up and do it… Except I’m a spaz…I like to dance at home alone 🙂
