The gym to my heart

We’ve had a blast in Vegas, but it’s time to say “see ya later”- we’ll be back very, very soon.

Good times with great friends,

(and fur friends)

Me and whisk

amaaaaaazing food

Nachos

(for the record, Yard House has ridiculous nachos)

and only one trip to the strip for breakfast- I didn’t miss it at all. When the Pilot told me that we could meet him in Vegas for a work event, I was really worried about staying on the strip with a baby. I LOVE the hotels and casinos, but it felt like it would be stimulation overload for Liv, and I hate all of the cigarette smoke. Even though many casinos and hotels are now smoke-free, I would still be worrying about her little lungs.

I was so excited when Jeni offered for us to stay with her, especially since I knew I’d want to hang out with her as much as possible. She lives in Summerlin, which is like it’s own contained little city- it has everything you could ever wish for. Lots of shopping, restaurants, casinos/resorts, and a gym that made my brain explode (and my muscles twitch in excitement to try every possible class).

We worked out at Lifetime Fitness, which is the epitome of sports club/spa. Jeni is a member, and I picked up a week pass for $50.

I talked a little bit about it in this post, but here are some pics.

I had the chance to take a yoga class while we were in town, in addition to Saturday’s fun, and it was an awesome treat. The room was heated (swoon), and the instructor went through different series, cranked up the music and gave us the chance to flow at our own pace. I got to do a lot of my favorite poses, stretch and sweat. The instructor also walked around helping us get deeper into poses, which I always love.

I’m a huge fan of what I’ve seen of Lifetime Fitness so far- hopefully we’ll get one in Tucson one of these days!

For now, we’re leaving on a jet plane.

See ya in Tucson <3

xoxo

Something to talk about: What’s your current gym routine like? If you don’t have a gym membership, what’s your favorite way to get in a workout? I love workout DVDs and other at-home workout options. Has anyone else tried out local gyms while on vacation? Many gyms offer one or two-week trial memberships for free, or will give you a pass to try out the gym at a discounted rate.

I do core fusion at Exhale Spa and I love it. Barre, yoga, spin, cardio and bootcamp classes plus a gym with cardio equipment and weights. It’s 100 bucks a month which is kind of pricey but you really get what you pay for.

I have lived in Las Vegas for 8 years and always like to hear about people visiting and trying places other then the strip. The strip is my least favorite thing about Las Vegas! I live near Summerlin and LOVE it there! I was hoping to hear aout your thai dinner. Thai food is my favorite and I have so many go-to thai restaurants…Archies, Lotus of Siam, King and I, Surangs. You will have to try Lotus of Siam next time you go to Las Vegas!

k i definitely will! i’ll have to ask jeni the name of the thai place- we got takeout and it was incredible

I live in Henderson! Love to hear about people here in Vegas too! It’s great to see their take on it, when I can get a little disenchanted by it sometimes 🙂 Lotus of Siam is AMAZING! Favorite thai food place here!

    Gina…always living it up!

That. Gym. Is. To. Die. For. heavan! I don’t normally gym it much other than for strenght training but since getting a stress fracture, I’ve been an elliptical/stair master/ spinning fiend!

    Wow, that gym is impressive!

I’m lucky to have free access to a small gym in my building at work — it’s not big, but only about 30 people work in the building, so it’s never crowded. I’m lucky!

To switch things up, I’ll bring in some DVD’s from home and use the free weights at the gym.
    It works for me!

If that was my gym, I think I’d never, ever leave. Ever.

    • Fitnessista on August 8, 2012 at 1:12 am

      right?! i could live there.

That gym looks amazing! I would love a gym with a rock-climbing wall – I’ve done it a few times and it’s so much fun. Awesome upper body workout too. 🙂

  8. britt on August 7, 2012 at 10:03 pm

that gym looks awesome! i’ve only ever been to the strip in vegas so in my mind that’s all there really is, lol. i know that’s not true, but it’s weird to think there is so much more.
we live in the smallest town ever (i’m being dramatic but it’s the smallest town i’ve ever lived in 😉 ) so i don’t have a gym membership because i’m not even sure there’s a gym. i workout with my little guy here and there throughout the day (my 22 month-old can do lunges and crunches because he copies his mama) and recently my husband and i started doing insanity. when i feel like a run, i’ve been using the nike run app and just running around the neighborhood right before the sun sets. it’s beautiful!

  9. Emily on August 7, 2012 at 10:10 pm

I’m SO jealous. You have no idea. That gym is GORGEOUS.
I would kill to have access to a rock climbing wall.

    I’m glad you’re enjoying it! <3

This gym looks amazing! I wish my gym had classes in general, it’s just a cardio/weights gym but I still get a good workout in! I just have to plan my workouts more 🙂 And one time my husband and I got to try a gym for the day while on a trip in New Jersey and saw one of the cast members from Jersey Shore! Lol I acted star struck like they are actually famous.

Thanks for the links!!! I had just been thinking about googling some salad recipes, and the one link gives me a great starting point. Plus, I recently started incorporating some weights into my workouts and was wondering if it mattered whether you did weights or cardio first. It was like you anticipated my questions!

That gym looks amazing! I hope they build one near me!

    • Fitnessista on August 8, 2012 at 1:11 am

me too- i would loooove one

  12. Michelle@Peachy Palate on August 8, 2012 at 1:23 am

That gym is incredible!!! Mine is about 100th of the size 🙂 I’m a gym bunny but do strength training at home during the week in the bright am at 5 and then hit up the gym for cardio…running, elliptical or spinning in the evening. At the weekend I like going early on Saturday morning to the gym and Sunday is nearly always my choice of rest day.

  13. Morgan on August 8, 2012 at 6:42 am

My gym is pretty lame, but has all the basics I need! 🙂 My work schedule makes it hard to get to the gym, so I love doing yoga podcasts at home in the morning! Hope you have a safe trip back!

  14. The Healthy Hostess on August 8, 2012 at 7:27 am

I teach group fitness at Lifetime and it’s amazing. Tons of great equipment, motivated people and a free membership! 🙂
The child care is amazing too! Glad you had a great trip!

  15. Bek @ Crave on August 8, 2012 at 7:28 am

I love getting my workouts done group fitness style- my absolute favourite: Body Step! I love teaching it 🙂

  16. Amber @ Busy, Bold, Blessed on August 8, 2012 at 7:53 am

I’ve never been to Vegas! We’re supposed to be planning a big group trip for the near future, so we’ll see. I’ve been attending hot yoga classes at a local studio and I love the atmosphere and the people!

  17. Alicia on August 8, 2012 at 9:16 am

Lifetime is the closest gym to my work! The membership is a little pricey, but the amenities are amazinggg. I’ve done a trial membership with them and go as a guest with some of my co-workers and family members for now, but you better believe as soon as I pay off my pesky car, I’ll be joining that gym. 🙂

  18. Ali @ Around the VeggieTable on August 8, 2012 at 9:27 am

OMG I want to move into that gym. I quit the gym about two years ago and I definitely still miss it. I have no problem getting in workouts on my own at home (and running!) but I definitely miss the classes.

  19. liz on August 8, 2012 at 10:11 am

you didnt even mention lifetime’s locker rooms – such nice showers and great steam/sauna. i had to drop my membership when i had my baby (4 months ago) and i miss it everyday!

  20. Rachel on August 8, 2012 at 10:55 am

I’m thinking about joining the gym this winter because that’s what I always liked about it… as of now and the past 3-4 years I’ve been working out at home

  21. Kelli Preston on August 8, 2012 at 11:47 am

That gym is amazing. I would kill for a hot yoga studio at my gym. I knew that combo existed somewhere out there.

  22. Dana on August 8, 2012 at 1:05 pm

Hey, I wanted to ask, how do you feel about eating grains for dinner? What can you substitute them with? Like veggies and stuff ?
    Thanks,
    Dana

    • Fitnessista on August 8, 2012 at 3:39 pm

for the most part, i try not to eat a ton of starches before bed. i do every now and again, but mostly enjoy protein and veggies for dinner, maybe some fruit or chocolate for dessert

  23. Laura J. on August 8, 2012 at 3:11 pm

I used to go to Lifetime Fitness when we lived in Michigan. The gym is seriously amazeballs! Nothing like a billion different classes and times to keep you motivated! We go to a similar gym called American Family Fitness now. They have a class every 3rd Friday called Flirty Friday– it’s 45 minutes of pole dancing type workout and then 45 minutes of Zumba. I haven’t worked up the nerve to try it yet tho, haha. 🙂

  24. kim@hungryhealthygirl on August 8, 2012 at 3:14 pm

I think I need to move there just to join the gym…..amazing!! Glad you had fun in Vegas!

  25. Dusty @TooLazyYesterday on August 8, 2012 at 7:59 pm

You have been hanging out near where I live. I/my family live in Summerlin.

  26. ash on August 9, 2012 at 11:17 am

That gym is amazing! I’ve never seen a hot yoga studio at a gym, love it!!!! Glad you had a great trip!

  27. Lea on August 9, 2012 at 10:15 pm

There’s a lifetime fitness near me and I looked into joining them when I was on the market for a gym to join. I tried contacting several people there to find out how much a membership would cost but no one would tell me, just invite me to try a free day or week pass. That made me realize oh, if they won’t tell me I probably can’t afford it =)
