5 minutes of fiery ab frenzy

Thank so much for all of your wonderful feedback on the new blog design. Cody did such an incredible job- I really love it. The blog has gone through a few facelifts as time has gone on and things have changed around here. Of all the changes I’ve made, I like to think/hope my photography has at least gotten a little better.

The Pilot found this gem while searching through the 2008 archives:

Date

If you’re wondering what the heck that is, that would be a date on a paper towel smeared with almond butter. The sad thing is that at the time, I didn’t even think it was blurry.

Anyway.

The new blog design is one of the many moments where I wish we could all chill and drink a glass of wine.

Wine and crackers

Since I have yet to figure out the logistics of a virtual vino party, how about an ab burner to celebrate?

Ab burner

“To celebrate.” Heh.

Feel free to add this in after your regular strength/cardio routine, or just for fun before bed. Fellow postpartum mamas, be sure to have the go-ahead from a doc to resume ab work (diastasis recti is no joke), and as evidenced by the video, I’m still building back my core strength. As always, be kind to yourself, honor your body and injuries. Feel free to adjust and modify as needed.

Please leave a comment to let me know how it goes!

Enjoy! <3

xoxo

Gina

What’s your favorite core strengthening move? I have a never-ending hate-love for the plank.

Congrats, Gina! It’s so beautiful and clean! I love it! Also, I’m staying with my Dad for the week in Wisconsin and made him and my step-mom your three-A’s pizza – it was a huge hit. I actually ate half of it myself – whoops. Happy Wednesday 😀

  3. Jaclyn on September 5, 2012 at 11:40 am

Love the layout! I think you should think about adding Facebook and Twitter buttons to where you have a Pin It button at the bottom of your blog posts? I want to share your workouts and info! 🙂

I was reading your blog in 2008 and started my own shortly thereafter and actually have a pic of a medjool with PB and choc chips in it on my site from early 2009. I came across the pic about 6 mos ago and wonder WHAT was I thinking…b/c like you, at the time, I actually thought it was a decent photo 🙂 Ahhh, life is a journey, right!

  9. Kristen on September 5, 2012 at 12:53 pm

LOVE the new layout, Gina! Looks so crisp and professional! Very bright and cheery too, like you!
Just did the AB burner after a PT workout sesh… we rarely do just an AB focused workout with my trainer so it’s always nice to get in a little specified burn to the belly. The “bicycle up” was a new one for me and definitely gave me a “make it hurt so good” feeling. 🙂 Thanks girl!

I am loving the new layout Gina! It’s clean and crisp with just a hint of girlie, which I love! Tonight is a planned ‘run’ night and I think I’ll add your ab burner to the end of my workout. I love pilates for core strenthening!

The blog is awesome! I laughed when I saw your blurry date picture, thats pretty much what all of the pictures I take for my blog look like. Cell phone pictures, psh.

  15. HS on September 5, 2012 at 1:56 pm

New layout looks great Gina!! No offense to the previous one, but I always felt a little goofy being seen reading it. It is looking fantastic now!!

One question–what crops are you wearing in the video? I’m loving them!

    • Fitnessista on September 5, 2012 at 3:52 pm

i felt goofy reading it. haha

  16. Samantha @ My Full Life on September 5, 2012 at 2:19 pm

Diastasis Recti freaks. me. out. That is one of many excuses for why I haven’t worked my abs for nearly 4 months postpartum. Sad, but true.

    • Fitnessista on September 5, 2012 at 3:51 pm

it took me a long time to feel comfortable really working my core again. still getting the hang of it, we just need to be patient with ourselves

      • Rochelle on September 5, 2012 at 4:17 pm

My baby is almost 5 now. I guess I can’t still use that as my excuse anymore, can I? 😉

  17. Chelsa on September 5, 2012 at 2:22 pm

I like how your broke up the plank into 6-10 seconds holds instead of the traditional 60 hold which most people have a hard time with.

So excited that I saw you referenced on another bloggers comment board! I was trying to figure out what kind of an ab workout I wanted to do after my run today. Now I have one! It looks good. I’m stoked to give it a go.
I don’t know what your blog design used to look like but I think it looks great now and am excited to start checkin you out!

    Hi Gina,

What software do you use to add all of the cool text effects to your videos? They look great! Thanks. 🙂

  25. Rebecca on September 5, 2012 at 4:28 pm

Great workout! I really needed a quick ab workout to do after my runs. This is perfect. Thanks!

  26. Cai on September 5, 2012 at 4:33 pm

    Dang.
This video burrrrrned. Totally embedding it in my own blog post today! 🙂

  27. susan @ susonia.com on September 5, 2012 at 4:41 pm

Thank you so much for sharing the ab burner!! I tend to focus on getting out of the house for a quick run or a class to exercise, but 5 minutes of abs are perfect to squeeze in when my little guy naps!

  28. Madison @ Pointy Toe Shoe Crew on September 5, 2012 at 4:53 pm

Dayummmmm girrrrrl that gave me a sweet an burn! I’m glad it was only five minutes haha. Great job on the new blog design too! It’s actually my first blogiversary today so I’ve doing a lot of looking back. Even in that short time a lot as changed. Can’t wait to see how different it will be when I’ve been blogging as long as you! You’re inspiring in so many ways 🙂

Love the new layout! And that ab burner looks amazing, going to give it ago in the AM for sure!! I have a new-found love for any plank moves now that I have the core strength to do it for more than 1 second 🙂

  32. Jennifer on September 5, 2012 at 5:56 pm

Love the new layout, Gina. On the old blog no matter what I did with my browser settings a huge chunk of the content would be ‘off’ the page (I’d have to scroll over to read the end of a sentence and them back to the other side for the start of the next). So far all of the content is staying within the white border. 🙂

  33. Natalie @ FreshLifeFindings on September 5, 2012 at 6:02 pm

Can’t wait to try the ab frenzy 🙂 The blog is so pretty, love it!

  34. Christi on September 5, 2012 at 6:13 pm

I just finished the ab “frenzy” and am definitely feeling the burn. I had to do the modification too on those bicycle type moves. I guess I am a little tired and obviously need to build up those ab muscles. I also really enjoyed the 7 minute leg video you posted recently. I wanted to do it again today but couldn’t find it so I’ll try again later. I did it after a run a few days ago and thought, “hey it’s only 7 minutes I bet I won’t even feel it.” Well you were right in saying that I’d be thinking about you the next day b/c I actually felt it for two days after. I can’t believe such a short workout could really make a difference, so I plan on doing that one more often. I would love to see a similar video for arms, I am terrible at pushups but am using weights several times a week to try and build my upper body strength and tone my arms. Thank you for all of the videos, they are very appreciated.

  35. LisaG on September 5, 2012 at 6:51 pm

I love your new layout; simply because you include the pilot and Olivia. I’m gonna try your ab workout tomorrow. Im still sore from the last two days workouts; so right now Ill join you in a virtual wine “cheers!”

  36. Katheryn on September 5, 2012 at 6:52 pm

Great ab work out. I did it after my run this morning. I had baby #3 three months ago, so I definitely felt the burn.

  37. Brittany on September 5, 2012 at 7:30 pm

That picture cracks me up, but I feel the exact same way about my photography. I cringe looking back on some of my old posts.

I’m totally doing the 5 minute ab burner tonight!

  38. Anne on September 5, 2012 at 8:08 pm

Yey, I love your ab burners! They are so simpple to follow and are a nice switch up to my normal routine!

Hi Gina! Just did the ab burner and loved it! I did the Triple Threat Cardio Workout last week and was a sweaty mess! Thanks for sharing!

  42. RachelG on September 5, 2012 at 10:20 pm

Gina, you are such an inspiration! I’m sending my mom the link to the fitness page ASAP so she can begin incorporating weights into her workout. I wouldn’t even know about that if not for you! 🙂

  43. Corinne on September 5, 2012 at 10:57 pm

Hey Gina! I wanted to let you know that I share your infatuation with almond butter. I just found a super delish almond butter cookie recipe that I wanted to share with you.
    Almond butter cookies
    1/4 C sugar
    1/2 C wheat flour
    Pinch of salt
    1 t baking soda
    1/3 C almond butter
    1 t molasses
    2 t vanilla
As many chocolate chips as necessary

Mix dry than mix in wet ingredients. Bake 12 min at 350 degrees.

Thank you for your wonderful blog; it’s always so fun to read!

  49. Sarah Crowder on September 14, 2012 at 1:02 pm

I know I’m late to be commenting but just wanted to let you know I finally got around to doing this and LOVED it! Pinned to add into the rotation for sure. Keep ’em coming and thanks for the motivation from a mom with a 6 month old longing for her pre-pregnancy abs!

Nice 5-minute ab burner workout! It’s great to see a routine that’s more than just crunches and leg lifts!
