Meg: Cap toe flats

A trend I do not see disappearing any time soon are cap toe flats, a very chic take on a ballet flat. They definitely add that little pop of fancy you might want for a date night or an important interview. I haven’t found any for a decent price, so I went ahead and transformed a pair of plain Target flats into a leather + gold combo.

You’ll need:

-Plain Flats

-Blue Painter’s Tape

-Spray Paint (any color)

-A Pen and A Ruler

First, you’ll want to measure how much of the toe you’d like to spray paint. I went with 1”, next time I’ll probably do 1 ½”.

Make a mark at the spot you’ll be taping off, so you ensure the paint will be even.

Tape off the area with the painter’s tape. Spray the caps! I did a couple of coats, waiting for the previous coat to dry before doing the next.

Wait until the paint is fully dry, then peel it off revealing your lovely new caps!

Would you take the time to make your own cap-toes or splurge on a pre-made pair?

Adorable! I constantly ruin shoes by scruffing them on anything & everything …. this would be a perfect way to hide it!

I beat the crap out of my shoes, I’d probably also use a clear coat of laquer over the paint to help make it more durable.

Only downside is not trying them on in person!

I’ve been thinking about doing this but I haven’t found a good pair of flats yet! I love the color of yours! And of course I would do gold since I spray paint everything possible in my house gold!!!

I have this EXACT pair! They’re so comfy! I am definitely going to give them a little makeover now… such a cute idea!

Smart idea, Rachel– I may have to do some clear lacquer, too 🙂

I would totally do this. I just need to buy some cheap flats. What a cool idea!

The premade pair is cheaper and it doesn’t even take much!

I would definitely do this! So cute. Maybe a way to spice up one of my eight pairs of black flats? 🙂

I haven’t been wearing flats as much lately, but I would probably just make my own pair… just like I prefer to distress my own denim with a razor blade than to pay a little extra for it already done! =]

This is awesome! Another couple ideas are to paint the cap and then, if you are good at drawing, using permanent markers to draw designs over it or a cute stitching effect or another good idea is either over the paint or on the shoe directly without painting at all you can use some mod podge or hot glue gun and make a cap toe using gems or sequins, they also make sparkle colored paint/glue. I love also adding a bow or charm at the top edge Of the cap, adds a little style. just make sure whrn using mod podge or hot glue gun that the material of the shoes is compatible, suede is not normally good to use mod podge and sometimes the hot glue can melt it, its best on leather/ faux leather or canvas/cotton
