New shoes + Friday Faves

Is it just me, or did this week fly by?? Not that I have a prob with it.. love the weekend so much.

I think a lot of it has to do with the fact that we were super busy. We had something going on every day, also have a lot of fun stuff to look forward to this weekend.

Tonight, it’s a pumpkin carving party:

Pumpkins 2

(still need to go pick up the larger carve-able variety)

tomorrow is work, our Christmas card photos and an Air Force dinner shebang (the Pilot is speaking and I’m excited to go watch).

But first, before I get into anything, I have to show you guys these shoes.

Shoes

In our family, we have a tradition where the first person who sees a baby’s new tooth has to buy them a pair of shoes. The top two teeth came in together, so I figured it warranted a special pair of shoes, especially since she has one pair that fit her, but are not long for this world.

The TOMs ended up being too big, and the right size is now on the way, but the best part was her gasping and talking to the shoes. She does this new thing where she sees something she likes and GASPS. It’s hilarious and adorable- my nana and I had a blast watching her open the shoes and her reaction. The apple doesn’t fall far from the sparkle-loving tree.

Another fave this week? Random acts of kindness. I got home from work last night -it was a good day, just long- and was about to start making dinner when our neighbor brought over a Thanksgiving meal. Turkey, cranberry (I looove turkey and cranberry so much), potatoes, veggies, watermelon, bread and peanut butter cookies. No words. Everything was incredible.

Thanksgiving

Bella, after her walk and wishing it could be her Thanksgiving…

(don’t feel too bad.. that’s the face of an egg yolk bandit that I had cooked for Liv)

Your fabulous pics! Keep ’em coming (@fitnessista and don’t forget to use #HereComesHallowLEAN <— only a week and a half left!)

Julie @msluong made the peanut butter and jelly amazeballs. I need to make another batch….

We’re off to meet up with friends and then getting ready for tonight’s little get-together. See you later on the Fashion page (I’m crashing the party today).

Enjoy your Friday!

xoxo

Gina

Is there a pair of shoes you remember from when you were little? I had a pair of pink, sparkly cowgirl boots, with fringe. They were AWESOME. Any wonderful random acts of kindness lately?

Something to do: My friend Lacey’s 45-minute treadmill workout

Something to read: The mom stays in the picture <– a beautiful read

Ohhh my, I can’t get over those sparkly little TOMs – too cute! Our kid will most likely have way too many shoes… I’m obsessed with shoes as it is, and don’t even get me started on baby shoes.

    Awesome turkey day meal!!

Last week, an older gentleman saw my hands full with groceries and my 2-year-old and walked across the store parking lot to offer to put away our cart, a clunky, monstrous “car” cart. He pushed the cart all the way into the store. Very thankful for the random act of kindness. Passed it on by baking our teenage neighbor and her father cookies that night 🙂

Those shoes are SO freakin cute! I always wore little white cowboy boots when I was little haha and no, I’m not at all a country girl, I just loved them.

  4. Lisa @ Lisa the Vegetarian on October 19, 2012 at 12:03 pm

Those shoes are so adorable! I love sparkle too and any shoes with sparkle are the best pick in my book 🙂 For me, the week went by a little slow because things at work were difficult, but I’m super happy the weekend will be here in 5 hours when the work day ends! Happy weekend!

  5. Angie on October 19, 2012 at 12:03 pm

Those shoes are cute! I remember I had the cutest pair of white sandals when I was a baby, baby shoes are so adorable.

  6. Liz @ Tip Top Shape on October 19, 2012 at 12:04 pm

Aawww, that story about Liv is too cute!! And those shoes are adorable 😀

Totally agree about this week flying by. I’m happy about it, though!

  7. Jill on October 19, 2012 at 12:07 pm

How cute are those shoes?!! I just had to check them out on the website. I think my 14 month old and I need matching glittery TOMs 🙂

  8. Danielle@cleanfoodcreativefitness on October 19, 2012 at 12:14 pm

Love love those shoes! Wish they came in adult sizes lol! Livi will be the most fashionable baby ever!

  9. Amanda @ .running with spoons. on October 19, 2012 at 12:18 pm

Eee! I’ve seen those baby TOMS shoes when I was looking for a pair of my own and almost died from the cuteness. Baby clothes are seriously some of the cutest things ever, and I can’t wait to dress up my own little one some day 😀 Your neighbors are so sweet for bringing over that mean! It kind of makes me feel guilty because I don’t even know mine… and I’m not sure how to go about getting to know them either 😕

What an adorable story about the gasping. I’d be gasping if I saw sequin shoe show up for me, too 🙂

  11. Michelle @ Eat Move Balance on October 19, 2012 at 12:26 pm

Did you ever have jelly shoes?!? Those were “the best” when I was a little girl. 🙂

    • Fitnessista on October 19, 2012 at 12:29 pm

loved jellies! except for when a rock would sneak its way inside

  12. Angel on October 19, 2012 at 12:29 pm

Love Love Love those shoes!!! 🙂

  13. Kerry @ Totes My Oats on October 19, 2012 at 12:34 pm

I love Livi’s TOMS! I love TOMS in general. When I was about 7 or 8, my family and I went to Ireland and I got these ugly (but so cool at the time) blue patent leather/sparkly Spice Girls wanna be sneakers… the platform and everything! I thought I was so cool.

  14. Abby on October 19, 2012 at 12:50 pm

The shoes are too adorable! After seeing the picture on instagram i went and ordered some for my daughter and neice! Can’t wait!
An act of kindness that I will never forget happened when I was 9 months pregnant and trying to carry my groceries + mail + purse and work bag up the stairs to our apartment. (the husband was unfortunately at work or he would have been doing the heavy lifting). Anyways i proceeded too drop everything at the base of the stairs. Only someone who has been 9 months pregnant knows what a disaster this truly was! Right as i was about to completely lose it, my neighbor and her soon walked by and helped me pick everything up and then carried it upstairs for me without even asking. This was extra amazing because I’d never even spoken to her beyond a passing nod and hello!
Even though it only took a few minutes of her time it made all the difference to me and I try to remember that when I see someone else who is in need of a helping hand!

Woah, such a beautiful and well-written article.
Really made me realize that I have only very few picture of me and my mom. I’m already 22, but it’s never to late to put her in the picture.
    Thanks Gina!

  17. Emily @ Glitz Glam Granola on October 19, 2012 at 1:04 pm

Omigosh that is so sweet about Liv and the shoes!!! Please post a picture of her gasping when she’s excited! Yay for a week that went by quickly and a fun weekend ahead! Can’t wait to read all about it!

  18. Laura @ She Eats Well on October 19, 2012 at 1:41 pm

I want sparkly TOMs. I love my TOM’s…I am wearing them now. At work…they are so freaking comfy!

  19. Danica @ It's Progression on October 19, 2012 at 1:42 pm

I read that Huffington post article about moms staying in the picture earlier this week–it’s so so true and important. We all have to agree that seeing pictures of our moms when they were young is such a fun thing!

  20. Beks on October 19, 2012 at 1:43 pm

I found this pair of t-strap mary janes while garage sale-ing with my mom (I guess I was three or four?), and I begged her for them (they were like a buck).

Fit me like a glove for about a week, when I hit a growth spurt. Go figure.

  21. Allison on October 19, 2012 at 1:48 pm

i love my first pair of baby-runners; the most adorable pink and purple Nike’s. They’re just so adorable that they sit on the bookcase in my office beside a childhood photo of my grandma and I.

  22. Allison on October 19, 2012 at 1:51 pm

Those sparkly Toms are too cute!! The first pair of shoes I remember having were tiny, bright red Minnetonka moccasins. I remember crying when I out grew them:(

  23. joelle (on a pink typewriter) on October 19, 2012 at 2:02 pm

OMG those sparkly Toms are so stinkin’ cute I can barely handle it.

  24. Amanda on October 19, 2012 at 2:33 pm

Can we talk about how I made bars out of my favorite chocolate chip cookie recipe the other day? Except instead of chocolate chips, I put white chocolate chips and candy corn (chopped in the vitamix first) in them. They blew my mind. The only reason I haven’t eaten every last one (ok I took some to work) is beacuse I don’t want them to be gone. Ever ever.

  25. Laura @ LauraLikesDesign on October 19, 2012 at 2:34 pm

Those tiny Toms! Oh my goodness!

  26. Life's a Bowl on October 19, 2012 at 2:47 pm

Itty-bitty Toms are adorable, love the sparkles 🙂 I always got a pair of jellies every summer for the beach 🙂 Pink + sparkly, they were awesome!

RANDOM ACT OF KINDNESS I DID TODAY: A GUY LET ME GO IN FRONT OF HIM AT TIM HORTONS IN THE DRIVE THRU SO I PAID FOR HIS BREAKFAST. ITS THE LITTLE THINGS!

  28. Lisa on October 19, 2012 at 3:48 pm

Oh my gosh, dying over those shoes!!!

  29. susan on October 19, 2012 at 3:51 pm

I don’t really remember any childhood shoes, but a pair from my teenage years – and I cringe as I type this – included a pair of Buffalo platform shoes. They had a solid rubber platform sole, maybe 2.5 – 3 inches thick, and were incredibly ugly, when I look back… Not sure if they existed in the states, but they were really popular in Germany, like twelve, thirteen years ago.

And I actually just posted about a random act of kindness on my blog this morning! Someone paid for our food at a restaurant. We were shocked and incredibly grateful!

Love the little TOM’s. I’m planning on getting my son a pair too for next summer (it’s rainy season here and canvas shoes don’t seem like a good choice for a puddle-jumping 13 month-old).

  30. Sam @ Better With Sprinkles on October 19, 2012 at 3:53 pm

Man, do you think those TOMS come in my size? Too cute!

I don’t remember any shoes from when I was little, but I do remember a sparkly black and silver dress from when I was about 4. I was a sassy child 🙂

  31. Cfayla Johnson on October 19, 2012 at 4:19 pm

While I normally check out your blog for the foodie in me, I couldn’t help but jump on the bandwagon and leave a comment about those adorable TOMS.

Precious! Thanks for sharing and looking forward to more of your food adventures.

  32. Caitlin on October 19, 2012 at 5:41 pm

Those shoes are adorable! TOMS are so comfy and I love their philosophy and mission, too 🙂 When I was little, I remember having purple velvet sneakers. I thought they were so cool…along with my lime green sparkle jeans. Clearly I had style 😉

Also…just made something I feel like you would love…homemade pumpkin spice mocha hot chocolate! Just almond milk, pumpkin puree, stevia, vanilla, pumpkin pie spice and cinnamon, and cocoa powder melted and mixed together in a sauce pan poured into some fresh coffee 🙂 so.good.

  33. Allison @ Train Eat Repeat on October 19, 2012 at 8:44 pm

    such cute shoes!
I dont really recall any certain shoes from when i was little, I liked to be barefoot ALL the time though.. so maybe thats why i am in love with Vibrams now? haha

  34. Bek @ Crave on October 19, 2012 at 9:48 pm

Those shoes are so cute! I don’t actually remember any baby shoes, but I remember my shoes from the age of 6 or so- Posh Spice shoes, huge foam wedge shoes, white shoes and boots. I would wear the ONE pair forever till they broke, then be heart broken when I couldn’t find the same pair haa

  35. Beverly Aragon on October 19, 2012 at 10:42 pm

Baby TOMS and Uggs gotta be two of the cutest things in the world!

Those shoes are adorable! I remember my favourite pair of shoes as a kid was a pair of pink jelly shoes! Are those even still around?
