October

 Chiles

October, you’ve been pretty good to us. It’s (almost) time to say goodbye and who knows? Maybe next month I’ll get some temps that make my moccasins seem seasonally appropriate. For now, I’ll be rocking them in 90*. Tis the season.

Moccasins

-I started making Liv’s Halloween costume in standard Gina fashion: two nights before Halloween. I felt like I was on Project Runway or something, the way I sat at the breakfast nook, carefully cutting and sewing. I used to sew, wayyyy back in the day when I’d make dresses for my dolls, and in middle school when I started my punk-y phase and made some of my own clothes. Needless to say, it had been a while, but I’m pretty stoked with how well it’s turning out so far.

 Halloween headband

It may have even convinced me to start making her headbands and bows here at home. Maybe.

-I googled the ending of the Handmaid’s Tale. I had to know if her daughter was still alive. Please don’t be mad. (I’m still going to finish it, though – it’s way too good)

Soup2

-Even though it still isn’t quite cold here, comfort food cravings are in high gear. Soup at a Mexican restaurant on Monday, homemade marinara Monday night. Our can opener is from the 1800s, so I fought those cans of San Marzano tomatoes even though I had to walk away for a second. In the end, I did a victory dance (you lose, can) and our house was filled with the amazing aroma of garlic, fresh basil and tomatoes, happily simmering away, for the rest of the afternoon and evening.

Hiit and steady

-There’s the interval workout I did on Monday, which left me swimming in a pool of sweat. Only 45 minutes, and based on those killer interval techniques I posted about a while back. The only thing that made me want to keep going was that it was a chance to watch the news and catch up with everything Sandy-related. I hope those affected by the storm and are reading are all doing well- I’m thinking of you and your families.

-There’s nothing in the world that’s cuter than a baby and a pumpkin.

Halloween 2

Or a baby and a birthday cake. Or a baby and her puppy. Or a baby in a bathtub.

Or a baby and her daddy.

Pumpkin patch 2

Or just this baby in general.

Also, lovin your moccasins. I need some new ones..mine have seen better days (they also seem to mysteriously have become too big..not sure how that happened lol)

    • Catherine on October 31, 2012 at 1:46 pm

They stretch out like crazy! I have started buying them a whole size too small.

      • Fitnessista on October 31, 2012 at 5:03 pm

i have to buy smaller in all of my flats, or they stretch too much

    that headband is adorable!
baby in general is definitely just cute! my sister sent some pictures of my niece with her first pumpkin, she’s 6 1/2months old now, and of course.. it went straight for the mouth lol

I’m actually ready for October to be over with. I think I’ve celebrated my birthday month instead of birthday week. After tomorrow it’s time to purge all the Halloween/Birthday cakes/candy – from the house and the body. 🙂

Olivia is so cute. Love her skinny jeans. 🙂

  8. Emily on October 30, 2012 at 6:45 pm

Her little jeans are to die for!! So cute!

  9. Lisa on October 30, 2012 at 7:30 pm

Aww she is so cute! I’m sort of really jealous that you’re still getting 90 degree temps. We just had the hurricane (but we’re fine!) and now we’re going to be plunged into winter any second. I’m thinking November is going to be a great month – lots of new goals to work on!

Hey there, I’m a new reader (from Canada) and I love your blog!

Question for you re:intervals. When you say 30 seconds ‘easy’ do you mean walking, or still running just at an easy(er) pace? I usually do 1 min sprints, 30 second walk, but I’m wondering if I should be running during the ‘recovery’ time?

    Thanks!
    Lucy

The pic of Liv by the pumpkins is SO CUTE!!

Is it bad that I can’t wait to have a baby just so I can have an excuse to buy sweet baby costumes?

  13. Erin @ Girl Gone Veggie on October 30, 2012 at 8:54 pm

Omg she is the cutest! I love the picture of the two of you! So glad your October was so wonderful, I can’t wait to see your family costumes!

  14. Natalie @ freshlifefindings on October 30, 2012 at 10:25 pm

Ahh you guys are all so cute together! And there is nothing cuter than a baby with a pumpkin. Also, I’m rocking the mocs’ too!!

Are we talking about Margaret Atwood’s The Handmaid’s Tale? If so, I’m friends with her (Margaret’s) cousin, and the funny thing is most people around here groan when they hear her name because we were all forced to read her books in school because she was a Canadian author with many local ties.

I actually have never read any of her books but I still remember my older brother whining about reading the handmaid’s tale in grade 12.

    • Fitnessista on November 5, 2012 at 11:54 am

no way!!! can you ask her what happens AFTER the end? haha

  16. Yaara on October 31, 2012 at 12:01 am

Aww Liv is the sweetest little pumpkin! She has such a personality now. It’s incredible. She is just glowing, curious, and seems like she just takes in the whole world around her! It must be the most exciting thing in the world to watch this little person grow up in front of your eyes! You must be so proud. 🙂

  17. Gina @HealthLoveandChocolate on October 31, 2012 at 12:30 am

Liv gets cuter every post I swear!

  18. Bek @ Crave on October 31, 2012 at 6:08 am

Can’t believe it’s almost November- tomorrow actually! Oh and that means December is next…and Christmas!

  19. Chelsea @ One Healthy Munchkin on October 31, 2012 at 8:22 am

That’s so awesome that you’re sewing Liv’s costume! My mom always made my costumes when I was a kid and they were always way better than the store bought ones. Liv is a lucky girl to have a mom who can sew! 😉

  20. Ashley on October 31, 2012 at 9:30 am

Those chillis look absolutely amazing! I am sewing my little girls outfit this year as well as we simply can’t afford to buy one. It’s actually been an incredible bonding experience for me and her (she picked out the design and the fabric and sits with me/runs around while I sew it).

  21. Meghan @ After the Ivy League on October 31, 2012 at 10:15 am

Great workout, definitely pinning that one! I’ve never thought to combine HIIT with a steady run. And Liv is too adorable, looks like you guys had a great October!

  22. Rachel Boller - Busy Mama on October 31, 2012 at 10:48 am

Your munchkin is ADORABLE! I could eat her face! I love that you’re making (made) her costume! Talk about an awesome expression of love! I wish I could sew. Instead, Mini Terrorist is rocking a store bought monster costume that makes him scream at me every time I put the horns on his head. Though seriously, it’s the perfect costume for my little monster of a toddler. 😉

Liv looks sooo cute!! 🙂 Happy halloween! 🙂

  24. Kim on October 31, 2012 at 11:31 am

Impressive sewing skills!!! I do semi-straight lines only!
Your little pumpkin is super cute – she is really at a fun age!!!
I’m envious of you 90 degrees – I’m a super cold weather wimp!!
    Have a great Halloween!!!

    • Fitnessista on October 31, 2012 at 5:06 pm

i’m a cold weather wimp too- hope you have a happy halloween!

  25. Abby on October 31, 2012 at 11:38 am

I’ve been wearing my flip flops even though its been pretty chilly here lately haha, my last ditch effort at holding on to the warm weather I guess.

  26. Rhiannon on October 31, 2012 at 3:49 pm

I have to give props to the Pampered Chef can opener. The electric ones scare me, so this one is right up my alley! It leaves the edges on the cans smooth and it’s very easy to use!! =) I hope you and your lil Pumpkin are having a great Halloween!

  27. melissa on November 6, 2012 at 5:00 pm

I LOVE your moccasins! I have been looking for a cute pair – – – what brand are yours?

    • Fitnessista on November 6, 2012 at 5:05 pm

minnetonka- i got them last year at nordstrom rack. so comfy!

  28. Mackenzie on April 24, 2014 at 2:45 pm

Phew! I tried this workout this morning and have to say I did not complete the steady state portion… I was too exhausted from the HIIT intervals! My easy pace was my jogging pace (9:15)… maybe I should do that portion slower?
