Holiday HIIT Workout

With all of the holiday gatherings, traveling and extra to-dos right around the corner, time to workout can be a little more scarce than usual. One of the things to remember is to focus on the quality of your training, not the length. That’s why I created this holiday HIIT workout for you. It’s short, sweet and super effective. Plus, you can do it anywhere!

During this busy time of year, make your workout a time to destress and take a moment for yourself by choosing the activities you enjoy the most. One of my favorite holiday workout memories was a spin class here in Tucson–we were visiting from Valdosta at the time–and the instructor played remixes of holiday music for the class. It.was.amazeballs.

The holidays are the perfect time to get a little more creative with your workout routine to avoid burnout. One of my favorite things to do is find an at-home workout with minimal equipment to do while pastries bake, or at a hotel while we’re on vacation.

Holiday HIIT Workout You Can Do Anywhere

I put this together as a 5-minute cardio quickie you can do ANYWHERE with just your body weight!

Here’s a text version for my friends who are at work today.

This 5-minute workout is built on research-based HIIT methods to burn the max amount of calories in a short amount of time. Perfect for the busy holidays! fitnessista.com #holidayhiit #hiitworkout #holidayworkout #fiveminuteworkout #quickworkout

Holiday HIIT Workout Tips

-Modify as you need and always talk to a doc before making any fitness changes.

-This workout is based on the best research-based HIIT methods. Feel free to alter/modify as you need to!

-During the 30 seconds ON rounds: push yourself!!

-Feel free to repeat up to 4 times (for 5 total rounds), but I’d say the magic number is 3-4.

-For even more excitement, add these HIIT blasts in between rounds of a strength workout.

Hope you love it! Please leave a comment and let me know what you think <3

Off to teach.

xoxo

I can’t wait to do this plus an ab burner in between baking a pumpkin chocolate chip bread and waiting for my parents to get into town. Gina, thank you so much! Without you I would be stressing about not having the time to spend an hour at the gym.

This kind of good decision, to do a quality work out, is going to lead to more good decisions for me for the rest of the day, such as not overeating!

Happy Turkey Day to everyone in Tuscon! 🙂

I love your workouts and have been doing Tabata and some of your other suggestions for the past year or so. I incorporate them in to other workouts or do a couple in a row for an after-work blast. I just found out I’m newly pregnant (!!) and am wondering what your thoughts are about doing these style workouts in the first trimester, particularly since right now I am feeling all right (but wonder if it’s just a matter of time before that all goes downhill).

Thanks for any thoughts you have!

Finally did this workout. Visiting family at home and rembered this quickie you posted. Ran 1 mike then did Holiday Hiit 4 times. My little nieces were following along with me by the last round. Such a good workout!

  24. Zoe on April 17, 2013 at 11:41 am

This was an awesome workout! I wanted something at home that would shake up my routine and confuse the body a bit! I did 5 rounds and in between each I did an ab exercise fro this ab burner: http://fitnessista.com/2011/08/pretty-young-things/

    Goal accomplished; I am SWEATY!
    Thanks 🙂
