Six Pack in a Sweater Ab Burner

I put the call out on Facebook for what new quickie workout you wanted and ab burner went for the victory! I’m hoping to get some HIIT and dance cardio goodies up soon, too.

First, I have exciting news for you.

A Walk Down Memory Lane

Boy Meets World

Boys Meets World is gracing our TVs again with its presence (and the good news is that we once again have a working TV. I was glad for the peace and quiet, but now have to seriously get caught up on The Voice). I was a little scary excited when I found out. I was Topanga. Just in the same way that JTT was my real-life boyfriend. Anywayyyyyy…

Reading that little news blip gave me a memory lane stroll of that special time in my life (also known as TGIF nights). After reminiscing about how I once really wanted to grow up to have an apartment like the cast of Friends, my bedazzler and Cinnamon Pop Tarts, I got to thinking of how certain physical activities become SO much more challenging as we age. Remember jump roping and playing skip-it for hours? Like it was no big deal. Now two solid minutes of jump roping and my heart rate is through the roof! I think I could still rock a skip-it, though.

It’s funny how I sometimes think I can still do the things I used to. A toe touch after a looong hiatus and I was walking like a cowgirl for a week. Then there was last night when I thought I could do scorpion pose even though it had been over a year.

The entire story is in the video below, along with a killer new ab burner.

Six Pack in a Sweater Ab Burner

It’s called the “Six Pack in a Sweater” ab burner because it really is more shocking to have ripped abs under all of your winter gear! Hiding under that winter sweater, things tend to get a little fluffier during the holiday season. Here’s the thing, though: maintaining fitness and health goals all year makes it so much easier to take things up a tiny notch when the weather gets warmer. This is why it’s so important to have a plan that doesn’t make you feel overworked or deprived. Aim to maintain and remember that visible abs come from cardio and clean eats.

Here’s a (similar) text version for my friends who are at work right now:

Six pack in a sweater winter ab burner. Maintain your core strength year round with this ab workout. fitnessista.com #abworkout #abburner #coreworkout

I hope you love it–please leave a comment to let me know how it goes!

For even more fun, use it as a grand finale to the November Workout 😉

Have a great day <3

xoxo

Gina

Something to talk about: What’s something that you used to do when you were younger that probably would be tough now? For me, flipping off the bars comes to mind…I would probably land on my face.

Something to do: Be sure to check out the huge online bake sale here on the blog tomorrow am for Sandy relief! Anne is also hosting a fundraiser which ends today

lol! jtt was my boyfriend too! too funny!

  2. Erica { EricaDHouse.com } on November 8, 2012 at 10:02 am

Can’t wait to check this out after work today!

I’m shocked to hear Boy Meets World is coming back on air – I wonder what the premise of the plot will be?

  3. Brooke (beinvivacious.blogspot.com) on November 8, 2012 at 10:05 am

    I remember skip-its! I LOOOOVED that thing

  4. Christina on November 8, 2012 at 10:11 am

OMGeezzz… I had no idea about BMW coming back revamped. You just made my day!
Cory and Shawn get me ready in the morning. If I tell you this you can’t blame me for having your mornings stolen, but ABC Family runs like two hour blocks of the show every morning. Talk about TGIMorning 😉
For the record, I wanted Topanga’s hair, and my heart is broken to hear JTT cheated on me 😉
And please tell me why swinging is like the hardest workout ever now that I’m older? Come back youth.

  5. Nikki @ only25hoursinaday on November 8, 2012 at 10:12 am

TGIF on ABC was something I NEVER missed when I was a kid – Full House, Family Matters… great memories! I loved Boy Meets World so much – I was even inspired to give a note to my middle school crush after watching an episode of it (so embarassing now that I look back!!).

Funny you mention JTT – we’ve been watching re-runs of Home Improvement (don’t judge – it’s wholesome entertainment for the whole family!), and my husband and I always wonder where all those boys (especially JTT) are nowadays. We also laugh at the horrible haircuts and ill-fitting clothes – oh, the 90s!

  6. Erin on November 8, 2012 at 10:14 am

Monkey bars! Cartwheels! I could do those like it was nothing when I was little!
    Makes me sad I can’t anymore 🙁

  7. Hayley @ Running on Pumpkin on November 8, 2012 at 10:20 am

Going to try this today! Thanks Gina 🙂 I remember in elementary school PE class I was able to do like 15 pull-ups during the physical fitness test. Now I can’t even do ONE unassisted! Crazy.

  8. Heather on November 8, 2012 at 10:23 am

I miss being able to jump and tumble! Some of my old cheerleading friends have talked about taking adult tumbling classes, just for fun. I tried a cartwheel a few months ago and popped things I didn’t know I had hahaha!

Use it or lose it- twelve years may be a little too long of a hiatus to take from that kind of thing 😉

  9. Beks on November 8, 2012 at 10:26 am

I suddenly want to try to master the Skip It again. My sister had one, but never used it.

I’ve been watching Boy Meets World on youtube lately, but they need to get it on Netflix. I do most of my TV watching on Netflix. I miss that show, and similar shows, so much.

  10. Ali @ Peaches and Football on November 8, 2012 at 10:28 am

I read about BMW yesterday – I didn’t realize how many people watched it. I was never a regular watcher but I remember a few episodes. The ab workout looks great – definitely need to do that tonight. time for the abs to burn baby!

  11. Sarah @ Yogi in Action on November 8, 2012 at 10:39 am

I just heard about Boy Meets World! Did you hear that they’re going to call it “Girl meets world” and it’s going to be Cory and Topanga’s pre-teen daughter that’s the star? (I don’t know if that’s confirmed but that’s the storyline I heard they were going with).

And you guys can keep JTT- Devon Sawa was my boyfriend! Have you seen Casper?!

The thing that I can’t do anymore that was no problem as a kid would be to swim FOR EVER! I was on a swim team and we use to have 90 minute practices and at the end I wasn’t even tired. Now I swim for 30 minutes and am beat.

  12. Katie D. on November 8, 2012 at 10:53 am

I posted the Boy Meets World news on Facebook on Monday! I am PUMPED!!!

Today in functional training, we did hopscotch with a rope ladder and holy cow, it was HARD!

  13. Julie @ Sweetly Balanced on November 8, 2012 at 10:54 am

Ahh this is such perfect timing!!! I was thinking today I NEED to work on abs, always love a change-up in my routine! 🙂

  14. Katie on November 8, 2012 at 11:06 am

For me it is DEFINITELY the splits! Those used to be a great party trick, and now I am lucky to get in to triangle pose without being in pain for about a week…

BTW, I was more of a Harvey from “Sabrina the Teenage Witch” kinda girl 🙂

  15. Eating 4 Balance on November 8, 2012 at 11:07 am

I was so excited when I heard about the Boy Meets World spinoff a few days ago. I even title my WIAW post yesterday Girl Meets Food in honor of this momentous occasion. Lol 🙂

  16. Kristen on November 8, 2012 at 11:11 am

Whoa!! This news made my day! I still watch reruns of that show all the time.

I used to do flips into the pool. I think I might could still do it…maybe. I’m not gonna try though. An 8 year old busting her face on the side of the pool from a flip? Acceptable, understandable. A 28 year old? S-T-U-P-I-D!! Haha

I made your orange cranberry amazeballs and they were, of course, amazing. SOOO, I went a step further and made orange cranberry overnight oats!! They were just as fabulous as I had imagined!
I also made the zucchini banana pancakes. My son is a huge fan!

  17. Kristin M. on November 8, 2012 at 11:13 am

I looooooved BMW! And Topanga’s hair. TGIF was AWESOME. What’s also awesome is hearing that you’re hosting a bake sale for Sandy relief. I live on Long Island and am very grateful that the worse that my family is going through is day 11 with no power or heat. Yes it’s an inconvenience, however it is nothing compared to the devastation that we are watching other families go through just a couple of towns over. We know many people who have lost their homes and everything they own. Your contribution is so appreciated, I will be sure to check out the bake sale in the AM :).

  18. Kate @KateMovingForward on November 8, 2012 at 11:30 am

Oh. My. Word. I just did a 4 minute tabata combined with your booty-burner and this ab workout and I am spent!! Geez-louise it was killer! 😀

  19. Amber @ Busy, Bold, Blessed on November 8, 2012 at 11:58 am

Yes I loooooooove Boy Meets World! A few years ago, I used to watch it while I was getting ready for work haha. I love all those horrible 90s shows. Wonder what shows we’ll be looking back at in 15-20 years and think, wow that was primetime tv and now it’s so corny!

Hmmm definitely monkey bars and other climbing playground things. I used to be so fearless and now the bars hurt my hands and my hips and I’d rather pass haha.

  20. Anne on November 8, 2012 at 12:02 pm

Omg I was OBSESSED with Boy Meets World. And with TGIF!

  21. Danielle@cleanfoodcreativefitness on November 8, 2012 at 12:17 pm

Love this video! Looks like a killer workout! I used to love Boys meet world! I always looked forward to TGIF! They need to bring it back!

  22. Stellina @ My Yogurt Addiction on November 8, 2012 at 12:37 pm

I need to fit more AB workouts into my routine, this looks great!

Something I can’t do anymore is play hookie from school! Now that I’m in the real world with a real job…the days off are far and few between! :-/

  23. kim@hungryhealthygirl on November 8, 2012 at 12:54 pm

Can’t wait to try the workout. It looks super challenging. I can’t wait for the BMW remake!! I loved TGIF TV. Something I used to do constantly when I was young that is much more challenging now….cartwheels. I would cartwheel all over my yard and living room and now I try one and they are just so darn hard. 😉

  24. Katie on November 8, 2012 at 1:27 pm

I can’t believe Boy Meets World is coming back! I used to look forward to TGIF on TV, my friends and I would call one another on commercial breaks to discuss what was happening in the show…oh we were silly!

For my it would have to be tumbling, I was in gymnastics starting at the age of three and I would do cartwheels or walk in a handstand all the time…now my cartwheels are not so pretty and now when I’m in a handstand I feel like a Weeble cause I’m ALL over the place.

Can’t wait to try the Ab Blaster, it looks like a great one!

  25. Ashlee on November 8, 2012 at 1:50 pm

I did your Movemeber workout yesterday! So fun! I loved it.

  26. Liz @ Tip Top Shape on November 8, 2012 at 1:58 pm

I am so excited about the BMW reboot!!!! And this workout is great 😀

  27. Ali @ WHOLEistically Fit on November 8, 2012 at 2:00 pm

Great workout & love it’s title!! 😀 When I was younger I could get away with slacking on my post-workout stretches. Not any more!! Believe me, I’ve tried (like a zillion times) & I keep trying. Not sure when I’m going to get it through my brain and accept the fact that my body and muscles don’t have the elasticity they used to…. 😉

  28. Erin @ Girl Gone Veggie on November 8, 2012 at 2:06 pm

I used to LOVE skip its! So excited for a boy meets world spinoff! I heard corey and topanga might be the parents!

  29. Brittany on November 8, 2012 at 3:36 pm

BOY MEETS WORLD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! My brothers and I watched that show ALL the time! I still think of quotes from that show. I missed it so much. One of the patients at the hospital I work at turned on the TV last week and I heard the music and I nearly jumpped out of my skin I was so exited!

    • Brittany on November 8, 2012 at 3:39 pm

Oh and my mom still refers to Danielle Fischel as Topanga!

  30. Anna S. on November 8, 2012 at 3:55 pm

Love the workout and LOVE the capris you’re wearing in it! Where are they from??

  31. Michelle on November 8, 2012 at 4:02 pm

Loved the ab burner!!! Thanks for posting!

  32. Shari on November 8, 2012 at 4:16 pm

So excited about the BMW sequel!

    • Brittany on November 8, 2012 at 9:41 pm

Me too!!!!!!!! I told my brother tonight and he almost screamed he was so excited! We grew up on that show. All us 90’s kids!

  33. Amelia on November 8, 2012 at 4:43 pm

OMG it’s been so long since I’ve thought about this show!! This was a hilarious memory for you to bring back – love it!

  34. Amelia on November 8, 2012 at 4:46 pm

Ah, I can’t wait to try this tomorrow! Thanks so much.

Do you remember the little yellow ab wheel? I suppose it still gets used, but we utilized a similar version in body pump yesterday (with the bar) for an old ab track and holy cow I’m feeling it today!! Talk about core stability and wanting to vomit all at the same time.

    Yay for blog bake sales!

  35. Rachel Boller - Busy Mama on November 8, 2012 at 5:52 pm

Oh man, my boyfriend was Ryder STrong from Boy Meets World! Hah!

Love the ab workout but man…. I will be feeling that one for the rest of the day. 😉

  36. brooke @ sweats & sweets on November 8, 2012 at 6:13 pm

I used to LOVE TGIF on abc on Friday nights, along with Sabrina the Teenage Witch. Ah, memories. And yes when you’re younger you could do anything that kills you now for hours and never tire out. If jump-roping were only as fun as it was when I was 5. Double dutch was the best.

  37. Tonya on November 8, 2012 at 6:49 pm

Loved this ab burner!! Was nice to spice it up from the normal crunches and side bends! Thanks for posting 🙂

  38. Courtney on November 8, 2012 at 6:56 pm

Oh JTT…be still my 10-year-old heart! Yep, his beautiful face was hanging on my walls back in the day. Lol!

  39. @pluvk on November 8, 2012 at 9:29 pm

How funny! I wasn’t a JTT lover (I was kind of off the grid… Matthew Lawrence. Yum.), but one of my best friends was OBSESSED with JTT. We would come up with completely crazy scenarios on how she could meet him… hopefully followed by a white wedding and picket fence where he’d be the “Man of the House.” I miss TGIF.

  40. Diana on November 8, 2012 at 9:55 pm

I did this ab workout after my Tabata routine and I loved it! Thanks for posting it!

btw I just recently moved to Tucson, and was wondering what gym do you train and teach classes at? 🙂

  41. Vanessa on November 8, 2012 at 11:11 pm

Loved the workout, Gina! More please 🙂

  42. Fionnuala on November 9, 2012 at 12:12 am

I remember hanging by my knee joints on the monkey bars upside down. While I think I could physically do it, I don’t know that I have the guts to try.

  43. Ilana on November 9, 2012 at 5:12 am

Be careful with those inversions mama! Tried to force my body to do scorpion before I was ready, ended up herniating a disc. Super fun ha.
Thanks for the JTT flashback…… Those were the days!

  44. Bek @ Crave on November 9, 2012 at 6:19 am

    I love working the abs!

  45. Chelsea @ One Healthy Munchkin on November 9, 2012 at 7:31 am

This ab burner is just what I needed! I haven’t done an ab workout in weeks. 😛

When I was younger I did gymnastics, and I could do things like cartwheels on the balance beam and flips on the bars, but I definitely couldn’t do that now without falling flat on my face!!

  46. Carrie on November 9, 2012 at 9:37 am

Thanks so much for the text version!!! Made my day!

  47. Rhiannon on November 9, 2012 at 12:38 pm

If you’re a Grey’s Anatomy fan, they totally killed off Mr. Feeney last night!! I hope he can find some kind of home on the new Boy Meets World =)

  48. Sarah M on November 9, 2012 at 12:49 pm

Loved it!!! My abs were burning, but in a good way : ) Exactly what I needed to motivate myself during these colder months.

  49. Tori on November 9, 2012 at 9:31 pm

Speaking of BMW, has anyone heard that Disney is in the talks of making a sequel show called Girl Meets World with cory and topanga’s daughter?! Um, heck yes! http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/11/02/boy-meets-world-sequel-series-disney_n_2068602.html
