Can you believe that Monday is New Years eve?! What do you have planned?

I think we’re going to spend the day relaxing and then head to a family/friend party later that night. Since little miss will be a pumpkin by about 8pm or so (even though she stayed awake until 9 on Christmas Eve), I’ll probably come to home to put her to bed and watch the ball drop with one eye open. Party animal, for sure.

I’ve never been a huge fan of staying up until midnight on New Years Eve. My most memorable ones have been the more low-key nights spent with family or friends, usually at someone’s house. Of course there was the NYE we went up to Phoenix with a bunch of squadron friends and danced the night away, or that one time we made Jolly Rancher-infused vodka….um, yeah- but for the most part, I’m happy with Indian takeout, a comfy couch and a movie ;)

I like the idea of New Year’s Eve, but it’s mostly a reminder for me to take down Christmas decorations and jot some goals down for the next year. Speaking of goals, I’m doing a switch-up on the usual inspiration board this year! I hope you’ll join me… all the details will be up on New Years day :)

For all of my party people out there, here are some fun ideas for any NYE celebrations:

Appetizers:

Goat cheese, fig and bacon flatbreads

Sunflower seed and cashew cheese with cranberries

Red and Green Quinoa Lentil Salad (this is one of my all-time faves)- just serve in little bowls or cups

Quinoalentilsalad 1

Roasted veggie soup- same, just serve in little bowls or cups, garnished with a drizzle of olive oil, pepper and chopped parsley

Soup 1 of 1

Cocktails:

Pear Apple Ginger Saketinis

Pour

Chocolate milkshake cocktail (omg. Would be so easy to make with chocolate almond milk, too!)

Chocolate milkshake cocktail R109824 ss

What to wear:

LOVE this post with holiday ideas from Meg

Check out these GORGEOUS sparkly tights…

I die.

So what are you doing New Years Eve? Any fun traditions that you and your family share?

xoxo

After we had kids, we started hosting family oriented New Year’s Eve parties. 14 (or 15) years later we are still going – kids of all ages are always welcome. It is always a random mix of people and the more the better. Food, drinks, and fun every year. It is a great way to start the year with people we care about and still be together as a family.

My family always gets together for all holidays – including NYE and New Year’s Day. I’ve become so used to the tradition. Even though I’m at the age where most people go out and do crazy things for NYE, staying home with family and yummy food and drinks is where it’s at for me :)

I have never been out for NYE. I’ve always enjoyed a quiet evening at home. Growing up my family rented fun movies (a combo of new releases and old faves), and we spent the evening eating TONS of food and enjoying the evening. Even now, and for the past 4 years with my husband, we’ve always stayed at home. I usually make a “fancy dinner” and use our wedding china, and then we curl up on the couch, drink champagne and watch Anderson Cooper and Kathy Griffin ring in the new year. Is it the most exciting NYE celebration? No, but I love it and look forward to it every year.

I’d love to have a cody eve at home, but we are invited to a party :-) I think it will be fun, it’s somewhere in the Swiss mountains, very pure and native. We will sleep over so it should be fun!!

I love “regular” nights in for New Year’s Eve…I’ve never been much of a partier and most years don’t care if I make it until midnight or not! Maybe it’s because after all the festivities of Christmas I’m ready to be done? …not sure. At any rate, we’re actually hosting something small this year at our place and then taking the train downtown (we live down there) to go ice skating…so I guess if we’re hosting I have to stay up this year. ;) Should be fun.

LOVE those tights…that’s the main reason I wanted to comment. ;) Happy NYE!

My friend and I were just talking about how we hate going out on nights that everyone goes out on. It’s too much of a hassle. And I feel everyone thinks if you go out on nye you have to go big and in my experience that just means someone in the group will be disappointed or unhappy with the plans. I’d much rather stay in and cuddle up in sweats and watch a good movie. And that flatbread looks deeeeelicious!

My family’s tradition is to stay home in PJs and work on a jigsaw puzzle. It sounds lame, but it is so much fun!

I’m a fan of low key NYE celebrations too. I think this year I’m just getting together with some friends for a girls night!

Those tights are gorgeous! We will just be at home, probably playing Monopoly or Yahtzee with our two boys… so I guess I would be slightly overdressed in those tights. Sigh… :)

I’m boring, I will be at home with the hubs and kids. I *may* be able to stay awake until midnight, but it’s doubtful. Plus, I’m running a 5K on New Year’s Day and I’m kind of picky about a good night’s sleep before a race!

Happy New Year’s to you and your family.

I’m hoping my youngest is feeling better by NYE so we can all get some sleep! I plan to enjoy a nice glass of the wine we received at Christmas and to try my best to stay awake until midnight!

Happy New Year to you and your family. I hope 2013 is even better than 2012!

I’ve never been too excited about New Year’s Eve. I love thinking through what goals I want to make for the next year though and reflecting on how 2012 went, but a nice dinner and a lazy night at home is a perfect NYE to me!

Usually I spend a relatively quiet New Years Eve, but this year my husband and I will celebrate the ringing in of the new year in Paris, France. I’m very excited and look forward to the opportunity to dress up and be out in the mayhem – at least for this year :)

AND like many others commented, those tights are FAB!!!

We’re not really big party animals on NYE either. My boyfriend and I will go to my family’s house and the 5 of us will spend the night playing games and eating. It’s always fun!
