1/20: Meals and fitness for the week

Happy Sunday! After an insane week, in a house full of sickies, the contrast of a particularly glorious weekend has been delightful.

The girl at Whole Foods got a kick out of the fact that as soon as she handed me the juice, the tiny lady wrapped up in the BabyHawk immediately started saying “Agua? Agua?”

By the time I finished telling her that it was juice, not water, she had already finished off a good third of it. The apple doesn’t fall far, that’s for sure 😉

I still can’t believe we finally have a REAL one in Tucson!

My purse has been shuddering in fear since it opened, but it’s pretty amazing to be able to go in and get a quick, healthy meal. The above photo was a large piece of turkey meatloaf, stuffed grape leaves, potato salad, greens and a potato Indian dish, shared with Liv.

A trip to Costco for staples:

a date night at home, consisting of wine, Taken 2, and a box of tissues for our sniffles,
and lots and lots of ZUMBA!

A friend from work organized a Master Class and ZIN Jam session with the incredible Eric Aglia, and I was so excited to see that my work schedule allowed me to go. For the master class, we danced for an hour and a half, and during the Jam session we learned choreography for 5 new songs. I feel like I’ve kind of been in a Zumba rut lately, since I’m not able to take classes outside of work (where I’m usually the one teaching or team-teaching). I always love to see other choreography and song ideas, so this was a great refresher for me.

Here’s what’s on the fitness and meal schedule for the week:

Sunday: Runday with a friend- 5 miles

Monday: OFF

Tuesday: HIIT and weights

Wednesday: Teach Zumba

Thursday: Teach Buff Booty and Glide

Friday: OFF

Saturday: Weights (maybe some easy cardio)

 

Some meal ideas:

-New quinoa muffins (recipe to come!)

-Greens and garlic stuffed salmon, baked sweet potatos

Kale frittata with millet crust

Cashew butternut squash risotto

Slow Cooker Enchiladas

-Make Amazeballs

-Chop veggies

Steam eggs

-For Liv: homemade applesauce, pancakes and some type of protein (not sure what yet)

So tell me, friends: what are you up to this week? Any new classes? New recipes? I always love to hear what you’re up to.

Has anyone else been in a plateau and needing a refresher? Don’t forget that Winter Shape Up starts NEXT WEEK (the 28th!)- mark your calendars!

For now, I’m off to make lots of Elmo cupcakes.

    I’ve been stuck in a fitness and motivation rut recently – think it might be due to the fact I know I have an endurance event next week (training for which has included sitting in ice baths) and it’s decided to snow here in the UK – going. to. freeze!

    Counting the days until the Winter Shape-Up – going to kick this funk into touch! Until then, the adorable polka dots and pigtails will cheer me up! x

    Workouts for me this week are weights, zumba, spin class and if I can make it a restorative yoga class. Meals are prepped and ready, lots of salads, turkey meatballs and veggies with marinara sauce, smoothies with lots more veggies snuck in, grilled salmon and grilled steak.

    Liv’s pigtails = cutest ever!

    I can’t wait for the winter shape up! I’m starting my triathlon training that week (upcoming goal: 4 sprint tris and finish with an Olympic in early September) so I think it’ll be a great way to help kick my butt into high gear and make sure I keep up with weight training so I don’t get injured. Bring it on!

    You and Liv just give such an adorable Mom-daughter-couple!
    I prepped meals only for Monday and Tuesday since I will be in Spain from Wednesday on, woot!!! Great healthy food and workout accessibilities there too (like the beach!!) . I did TRX Bootcamp class and GRIT from Les Mills this week – rocks and will be part of my routine now.

    I’m so happy to be running again that I feel like I have busted out of all ruts (for the time being!).

    Those little pigtails are so cute!!! (I only have boys so I have to get the cuteness factor from other people’s pictures.)

    Sounds like you had a fun time with the Zumba – I still haven’t tried (afraid I just don’t have that kind of rhythm).

    Oh can’t wait for you winter shape up! You always have such great workout ideas. Olivia’s pigtails are too cute. What a sweetie. I love that you are including your meal prep now. I always get such great ideas. Can’t wait for the quinoa muffin recipe. I am planning on making your perfect protein pancakes for the week this week!

    We did an 80’s zumba night Friday and our instructor debuted 4 new songs! We did Hero (80s love song), Thunderstruck, theme from Footloose and Ice Ice Baby. I loved them all!

    The risotto recipe sounds amazing! I plan to make some kind of butternut squash/coconut milk/curry soup this week. I made another batch of the delicious paleo bread on Friday night too. This time I made my own cashew butter in my cuisinart and it was SO smooth, even more than Artisana!

    Other eats include: hard boiled eggs, turkey meatloaf muffins, shrimp, salmon, roasted sweet potatoes, chard wraps, spinach & arugula salads, maple mustard Brussels sprouts, and prob some sushi at some point!

    Usual heavy lifting schedule this week with some HIIT and a few walks sprinkled in 🙂 . Enjoy your Sunday!

    Love the pigtails! Too cute! Planning my meals for the week today too. Got the new Bon Apetit magazine with some great looking one pot meals I’m going to try, like warm shrimp escarole salad. These days with a newborn and toddler, it’s all about quick and easy!

    I just wanted to tell you how much I enjoy your blog. I am a new reader and a new mom to a 2 week old and that is how I came across it in my frantic “breastfeeding tips” google search. I have been reading new and old posts daily while I pump. So thank you for keeping me sane during these crazy weeks. I am really enjoying it 🙂

    I have been meal planning for the past three weeks and plan to continue this! It helps so much! My big goal for this week is to go and explore my new gym! We just moved and I stopped by today to get info all about it. They have a tour of the gym on Th. that I want to take, but before that I want to go to a couple of their classes 🙂 Can’t wait for Winter Shape up next week!

    I’m excited for Winter Shape Up – I need something to spice up my workout routine!

    I’m living off a bunch of leftovers this week because I made butternut squash risotto and leek & potato soup this weekend! I have some leftover leeks, so I think I might make a leek and goat cheese frittata at some point too.

    No new fitness things here… I’m a crossfit junkie! But I have a few new recipes I’m trying. I tested one on my co workers this morning (bacon chocolate chip cookies) and they were a HUGE success. I’m going to make homemade salsa and hummus for snacks and I’ve discovered the dehydrator so I’m making a ton of dehydrated snacks!
