My kinda club

Whenever I physically injure myself, I tend to laugh first and then cry. We got to the basketball game last night (almost late, per usual), and the Pilot still had to change into his white shirt in the car since it was a whiteout game.

I said, “Hurry, let’s go!” and as I quickly jumped out of the car, I slammed my elbow onto the side.

What came out of my mouth was a guttural, primal scream and I immediately flung myself to the floor of the parking lot… totally cracking up.

The Pilot came around to check on me, and as I was laughing, tears were streaming down my face. (I’m sure I looked reallllllyyyyyy cool to all the passerby, haha)

“I broke my elbow! I just want to see Wilbur wave the flag.”

After assuring the Pilot that watching the basketball intro was more important to me than getting an X-ray, we headed into the game and found our seats before the National Anthem began.

Of course, my elbow isn’t really broken (but very bruised), and we got to see Wilbur wave the flag:

Arizona

(during the intro, the cheerleaders and dancers perform, and on the big screens, a video montage plays with past and present players and coaches announcing Arizona’s titles. It ends with “This is Arizona” and everyone goes CRAZY. I told Kyle that going to basketball games makes me feel like I’m at a club, because i get so hype-y, scream and dance a lot. He just gave me a strange look. )

Wildcats2

The game ended up being a bust (we lost), but I love my Wildcats <3

Some things of late:

I’m definitely feeling the effects of three intense teaching classes yesterday. It bums me out because I’m scary excited to try out Zuzana’s DVDs, but will be soaking up a rest day today. I’ll post a full review after I try all of the workouts, but they’re available on Amazon for a steal ($15!) if you are already a ZWOW fan.

Zwow

Munchies:

Beloved sushi salad

Sushi salad 1 of 1

Romaine, brown rice, avocado, cucumber, Tamari, smoked salmon, nori, garlic + applesauce

Risotto dinner leftovers:

Leftovers 1 of 1

The risotto tasted even more amazing the next day- I’ll definitely be making it again.

This morning, I have some very special macaroons to make and send out, and then Livi and I are meeting up with friends. This weekend is going to be spent prepping the final details for Winter Shape Up. If you have any preferences/ideas for how you’d like to receive the workouts/meal ideas (email, all on one page, posts, videos) please let me know! It’s going to be a very exciting Winter Shape Up- it’s the first one with PRIZES. Don’t forget to meet me back here for the fun, starting Sunday.

What are you up to this weekend? Are you taking any fitness classes or maybe running a race? Anyone other laugher/criers in the house? 😉

Enjoy your Friday <3

xoxo

Hey! Do you have the risotto recipe?

Im going to NYC this weekend! (Im from Canada). Im going to try a free yoga lesson from lululemon! I’m also bringing my husband and his friend (who has never tried). Im hoping he will meet some people and go on his own (he just moved from France to NYC, we are visiting him!).

    Have a great weekend!

  2. lindsey on January 25, 2013 at 11:24 am

Taking a street dance class tomorrow. I’m about 5 months pregnant and still teaching fitness classes, but the only classes I get excited about taking are Zumba and other dance classes. It gets my club fix in 🙂

  3. Paige @ Your Trainer Paige on January 25, 2013 at 11:30 am

Youch!!! That totally sounds like something I would do. That’s awesome how much your city gets into the Wild Cats games 🙂

  4. Laura S on January 25, 2013 at 11:32 am

I just got the ZCut DVD’s in the mail! I am excited to try them out!

  5. Helen on January 25, 2013 at 11:37 am

Three weeks before our wedding me and my husband were at a park playing catch and he threw a pop-up that I couldn’t catch. It hit me RIGHT in the eye and it hurt so bad but was so shocking I bust out laughing/sobbing. I was sitting on the ground at a park in front of all these kids crying from pain and laughing hysterically and looking like a nutcase.

  6. Hayley on January 25, 2013 at 11:41 am

Oh I am most definitely a laugh/crier. The sound that combination makes is just awful, but I can’t help it lol. I was visiting my friends in TN when I slipped (silly brand new Toms!) and fell down CONCRETE stairs. This is the convo I heard:

My Friend: Oh my god, Is she okay?!
Her Boyfriend: Uh, she’s laughing so I think so
My Friend: No, she laughs right before she cries, too.

    Awesome.

  7. Haley @ fullnfit on January 25, 2013 at 11:46 am

This weekend I am heading to Hollywood to celebrate a college friend’s birthday.. going to be fun! Glad your elbow is a-okay =)

  8. Cara H. on January 25, 2013 at 11:54 am

Can’t wait to hear your review of Zuzana’s DVDs. I love the ZWOW workouts and am thinking of purchasing the cardio DVDs.

  9. Rebecca@Runningfoodbaby on January 25, 2013 at 11:54 am

just boring usual weekend plans over here – boo!

I’m always amazed at the amount of people at college games in the States. So not like that here in Canada-land.

  10. Sarah @ Yogi in Action on January 25, 2013 at 11:56 am

haha I always hurt myself and laugh about it. Or sometimes, if it’s infront of other people, I try and pretend like it didn’t happen.

The other day I was arriving at work, and I opened the door and hit my knee so hard on it, but these people were standing on the other side of the door, so I tried to pretend like I hadn’t hurt myself. But then I had to limp to my desk, so they probably still knew.

  11. Kristen on January 25, 2013 at 11:58 am

I’m so pumped for WSU! I’m finally getting over a lovely mix of sickness that I’ve been fighting for 2 weeks now…just in time. So I am READY!

The only request I have is for a workout to be posted the night before we’re actually suppose to do it. That way, for those of us who want to work out first thing in the morning can without having to wait for your post to go up with it on there. Sometimes it’s lunch time on the east coast when your morning posts go up.

I don’t laugh when I’m hurt but I often laugh when I’m nervous or mad. My husband has now gotten used to this but back when we were dating and we would get into any argument, I would often just start laughing. I really thought he was going to dump me because of this. Its hard to explain to someone that I’m really upset when I’m bent over from laughing so hard. Haha If someone started laughing right in front of me while we were having a serious conversation and I was telling them my feelings, I’d be pissed.

  12. Sarah @ MarvelousDarling on January 25, 2013 at 12:04 pm

I have my second hot yoga practice tomorrow! I tried it first on Wednesday and loved it. Simultaneously energizing and relaxing. I didn’t realize the studio was hot (it wasn’t labeled Bikram!) so I was dying in my sweatpants and long sleeve, but it was well worth it.

  13. LisaG on January 25, 2013 at 12:06 pm

I always laugh to keep from crying when I get hurt. (Just did that last night when I hit my shin on corner of dishwasher, ugh.) Glad you’re okay. I just bought the Zuzana dvd’s and the new Popilates; but haven’t tried either yet. I did go to Body Pump at 5:30 this morning.

  14. Kelly @ Laughter, Strength, and Food on January 25, 2013 at 12:54 pm

I am definitely a laugher/crier! I remember one time when I was younger, my friends and I were playing hide n seek in the dark (I know, very safe) and someone found me and I was running away from them and I ran right into a pile of patio rocks that my neighbor had in their yard. I flipped over them and had brush burns and cuts all over my arms and legs! To this day, my friend and I still talk about when she came running over to me because she couldn’t tell if I was laughing about the situation or crying because I was hurt because I was doing both!!

  15. Jeannie on January 25, 2013 at 1:05 pm

I def laugh when I get injured hahaha.
Yum salad! I’m so excited for winter shape up but are they any mods for preg women or do you not recommend prego women to join in?

  16. Emily on January 25, 2013 at 1:10 pm

I laugh/cry because I immediately want to reassure everyone around me that I’m okay, even if I’m not. I hate the panicked, “are you okay?!?” comments after I stub my toe or something. Folks, if I am still conscious enough to tell you I’m fine, then I’m probably going to live 😉 Now, if I am really injured, I WILL say so! And there will probably be tears involved.

Congrats on the Greatist honor!! You are definitely my favorite fitness blogger 🙂

  17. jenna on January 25, 2013 at 1:15 pm

I just did some of the ZWOW workouts this morning from her dvds-AWESOME, what a great buy!

  18. Amanda @ .running with spoons. on January 25, 2013 at 1:24 pm

The atmosphere of a game seriously can’t be beat. I’m a big hockey fan and I get ridiculously hyper whenever I’m watching a game live. Screaming, dancing, singing, jumping… all out, baby 😀 Sorry to hear that your team lost, but at least it was a fun night 🙂

As for being a laugher/crier… definitely – but it depends what I hurt. If I hit my funny bone then I laugh, but if I stub my toe, I curse like a sailor…

  19. Katie on January 25, 2013 at 1:24 pm

I have been getting so bored with my gym routine. I just bought the dvd’s. Can’t beat $15, and I’m ready for a change, plus my Mom and I can do them together. Thanks so much! Happy Friday.

  20. jodie on January 25, 2013 at 1:54 pm

I have already done 4 of the workouts on the dvd s and they are wonderful. You will definitely sweat.

  21. Danica @ It's Progression on January 25, 2013 at 1:56 pm

I mean this in only the sweetest way, but that fact that you laugh and cry when you get hurt is so strange/funny to me! I’ve never heard of anyone doing that before 🙂
I’m excited to hear your thoughts on those videos!

  22. KaylasDrawings on January 25, 2013 at 2:14 pm

Haha! Thats exactly how I get injured- laugh, cry and overexaggerate my injuries to justify my ridiculous cries of agony.
I may have to try risotto, it looks amazing, however making it intimidates me

  23. Carrie R. on January 25, 2013 at 2:14 pm

ACK!!! Sorry about your elbow!!! 🙁 Nothing like cracking a funny bone…

The traditional injury in my house is for me to open the cabinet above the dishwasher, bend down to unload dw, stand up…and slam back of head on cabinet door. A proud history… first I scream, then I rub, then I laugh hysterically. Try as I might to SHUT THE CABINET DOOR (a simple operation), I always forget…on occasion, my husband comes running, but generally I get the “Babe…you okay?” as he knows the laughs are sure to follow…

I am looking forward to Winter Shape Up…have been walking, doing the elliptical and Zumba-ing, but I could use a kick in the pants Gina-style! 🙂

  24. joelle (on a pink typewriter) on January 25, 2013 at 2:16 pm

Sounds like a great club to me too! I wish I had my alma mater nearby to attend the game of!

  25. Caitlin on January 25, 2013 at 2:50 pm

How’d I not see this new layout sooner?! I looooove it.
Those meals look to die for! And I know many ZWOW fans – had no idea Zuzana had DVDs out now!

  26. Sarah @ Making Thyme for Health on January 25, 2013 at 2:54 pm

If I can force myself to get out of bed, I am hoping to do a Body Attack class first thing in the morning.
    Have a good weekend 🙂

  27. Lucie @ Fit Swiss Chick on January 25, 2013 at 3:31 pm

Oh, that elbow thing. Sorry. It really hurts, I know. And yes, I laways laugh before crying. Especially when I hit my toe on the corner of my bed. Happens to me abour 300 day a year.
So much looking forward to the Winter Shape Up!! Sending you kisses from sunny Spain! Me and my BF are here for a shotrip since Wednesday and stay till Sunday. It is glorious and I am just happy to be at the beach.

  28. Allison @ Train Eat Repeat on January 25, 2013 at 5:23 pm

a few years ago when I lived at home, I was walking into the kitchen which has one step. My cat had puked so I stepped in that with a sock on, so you could imagine, so I didn’t want to step on it so I started hopping on one foot. I tried hopping up the one step into the kitchen and BOOM. I landed flat on my face, this is the one time where my arms didn’t come out and try to save me either. I started laughing so hard that I was crying, my mom came running in to see what happened. It was so painful, yet I couldn’t stop laughing! So i’m with you on those experiences forsure!! haha

  29. Jay on January 25, 2013 at 7:51 pm

Just came across your blog and I LOVE it! I’m very excited to begin your winter workout. Woohoo! Keep up the great work. J

      thank you, jay!

  30. Victoria @ Reluctantly Skinny on January 25, 2013 at 8:54 pm

Those DVDs look like a lot of fun; I love trying new workouts – keeps it interesting. I started officially training for my first 1/2 marathon this week, and I started taking a kickboxing class, which is a lot of fun. Congrats on being named one of the top health/fitness bloggers.

  31. Bek @ Crave on January 25, 2013 at 10:17 pm

We are linked! I hit my elbow crazy hard yesterday so much so that a tingling/pins and needles/firework type pain went all the way into my wrist and pinky and wouldn’t go away. It’s still sore now thanks to bruising. But my goodness I’ve never hit it like that. Elbow buddies 😉

    Good luck with the baking!

  32. Caitlin on January 25, 2013 at 10:46 pm

SO EXCITED for winter shape up! I’ve never done it before, but I absolutely loved summer shape up last summer so I know I’ll love this too! Unfortunately I have to start a week late because of a medical procedure, but hopefully that’ll be fine!

  33. Julie on January 25, 2013 at 11:34 pm

Hey, we’re UCLA fans and watched that game last night! We were pretty stoked about the outcome, though (sorry!). I’m definitely a laugh first, cry later type too–I remember dropping a jar of mayo on my hand and then later asking my then-fiance to take me to the doctor for an x-ray. Oops!

    • Fitnessista on January 26, 2013 at 12:47 am

      boooooooo haha.

  34. Brooke on January 26, 2013 at 12:02 am

Sorry about the loss…. not really, Go BRUINS! Ha ha! I am definitely ready for winter shape-up. I agree with another comment, I like to work out early so a post the night before would be helpful. Thank you!

    • Fitnessista on January 26, 2013 at 12:47 am

AHHHHHH! it’s ok, we can still be friends 😉
yep- the monday workout will be up sunday afternoon.

  35. Jennifer on January 26, 2013 at 12:08 am

I just came across your blog. I’m in Tucson too. You have a great blog and I have added it to my favorites.

Hopefully the Cats can bring it tomorrow!

  36. Rowan on January 26, 2013 at 12:48 am

Well it is still below zero here in tge frozen tundra, so I will just be bundling up and heading to the gym for some cardio. Dreaming if spring for an outdoor run!

  37. Juliet on January 26, 2013 at 4:01 am

Elbows are the absolute worst to bang!!! I don’t know what it is!

  38. Shaina Anderson on January 26, 2013 at 12:40 pm

Oh man….your elbow is a must-laugh-when-you-bang-it spot, no matter how retarded you might look haha. Those DVDs look awesome! I’m excited to read your reviews!!

I’m in a hair show this weekend, which was really poor planning on my part (but I needed to grow a pair and just go for something new…and holy cow is it new! haha). I’ll be gone all day tomorrow for the show, which means I have to spend today running around like a crazy lady grocery shopping/cooking for Patrick and packing for myself and the baby since we leave at the butt crack of dawn for our East Coast trip on Monday. Ah!

Hope your elbow feels better and I’m stupid excited for the Winter Shapeup!

  39. Kerry on January 26, 2013 at 1:02 pm

Hi! I love, love, love your blog. You are super motivational and I so appreciate that. Have you ever written any posts on how much exercise we should get a day or a week? Cardio vs strength. I’m trying to lose my last 30 pounds and workout 6 days a week, 2 hours a day. It seems there are many answers to this question! Thanks so much.

  40. Emily @ www.main-eats.com on January 26, 2013 at 5:35 pm

Hope your elbow heals quickly! Looks like a super fun night!

Congratulations on being included on the Greatist list of the best health and fitness blogs! Really looking forward to the winter shape up – I loved the one last year!
