Hi from San Diego! We decided to take a little long weekend getaway. I’m so excited to be here with my little fam, surrounded by ocean,

seals…

oh, and gluten-free cupcakes. What more could a girl wish for?

We got into La Jolla at 2:30am- Liv was WIDE AWAKE and cracking up like a little nut.

When we tried to put her to sleep in her pack n’ play, she cried, so we brought her into bed with us. When it was 4am and she was still trying to pry my eyelid opening and laughing, I put her back in her pack n’ play and we all happily slept until 10am. We made our way out and about by 11, around the same time as the rest of the St. Patty’s party animals slowly wandering around ;)

Since we’re in vacay mode, I don’t have anything planned or prepped as far as eats go. We’re going to eat our way through San Diego per our usual standards. We’ve already enjoyed breakfast at The Cottage and on the way here last night, Liv and I shared this pizza from Sauce (artichoke and mushroom) and a salad.

I’m excited to be able to take a few fitness classes while we’re here, too.

Here’s what’s on the tentative plan:

Sunday: OFF (lots of walking and exploring)

Monday: Pure Barre

Tuesday: Power yoga

Wednesday: (back to real life) teach Zumba and Barre

Thursday: OFF

Friday: Strength and HIIT (40 min)

Saturday: Teach World Beat

It’s going to be a fun week of fitness for sure.

I hope that you’re enjoying St. Patrick’s Day! What’s on your food and fitness menu this week? Taking any new classes?

See ya later with some pics from the day!

does that mean you’re doing HIIT for a total of 40 minutes? I’m always confused about how much of HIIT to do and for how long since bodyrock says “do it with us everyday!” although I know you advise 2-3 times a week. Have a wonderful vacation, it looks beautiful!

no, hiit for 20, weights for 20. i would die if i did hiit for 40 minutes!
i 100% disagree with bodyrock for that. if you work that hard everyday, you’ll overtrain and plateau

Hmm I just want to say ,if you clue yourself up on Bodyrock, or as it’s now called- The DailyHiit, the site , workouts and programmes do not advocate doing Hiit everyday at all.
It’s best to properly research fitness programmes before starting them, or making presumptions about them.

Your past San Diego posts are the reason my family stopped at La Jolla when we were there last year-and it was the best part of our California trip! I miss it (especially those stinkin’ cute seals), enjoy your time!!!

Oh that sounds like so much fun, what beautiful pictures! (And the pic of the pizza made me drool just a bit.) So glad you get to enjoy a long weekend with your family- enjoy and happy St. Patty’s day to you! No big plans here, recovering from being a bit under the weather- picked up a DELISH round of Irish soda bread from whole foods yesterday though, YUM!

I hope to visit Cali one day! It must be nice to live in San Diego and see the seals all the time. No big St. Patty’s Day plans for me, but I did get a green lime refresher from Starbucks to celebrate. Enjoy the vacation :)

We have a beach house in La Jolla and I was just there a couple weekends ago looking at those exact same seals and had breakfast at The Cottage :) If you want recommendations for food, I highly suggest lunch at George’s at the Cove and dinner at Roppongi. My two fave restaurants there for sure! Hope you have a blast!

I love your pics from San Diego! I made a note about The Cottage as a “must” when I go in June. Do you have any other recommendations for must do’s or eats? We are going for the RNR half marathon and staying 5 days.
Looks like you all had a great time!
    Thank you

I’m just going to jump in and add my 2 cents :-) The Mission (2 locations – Hillcrest and downtown SD), Cafe 976 (in Pacific Beach) and Hash House A-Go-Go (Hillcrest) are amaaaaaazing for breakfast (or anytime really but a must for breakfast) and Isabel’s Cantina (right behind 976 in PB) is delish for dinner (same chef as The Mission).

I lived in Pacific Beach for 2 years and they pretty much knew my name in all of these establishments. :-)

since its Sunday, its grocery day so getting some healthy and clean food planned for the week. As far as fitness goes, I gotta get back to the gym and get running! Got a half marathon in less than 70 days. Eep!
I wish I could just go to san diego for a short visit, or anywhere that doesn’t half snow for that fact… Saskatchewan is getting terribly frustrating with the constant snowing this past week. come on spring

I have a pretty random question, but feel like you would give me an accurate answer. I am trying to lose weight. I have tried so many diets and failed. I notice you eat a pretty high fat, lower carb diet. Do you think this helps with weight loss, or just maintaining weight. How many grams of fat should I am for a day? I notice I feel satisfied eating fatty foods, like the almond flour bread, rather than eating a regular slice of toast. Can you give me any direction?

    Thanks, your blog is inspirational.

      hey j,
my diet is higher in protein and carbs with moderate fat. (i just don’t post my daily toasts with almond butter or mugs of cereal because they’re pretty boring)
i feel a lot more satisfied with real fats in my diet, like nuts, egg yolks and avocado. i wish i could be more help but it really is a matter of finding what works best for you. if you feel more satisfied with a higher percentage of fats, i’d definitely experiment with that. i think one of the keys is to watch sugar intake if you’re eating high fat.

Enjoy your time here in San Diego! And if you haven’t already, I highly recommend you venture out into Hillcrest and North Park for some really good food. Encinitas is also a gorgeous beach town. Also, ‘Station Tavern’ in South Park is a hip burger and beer bar with an outdoor play area for kids. Have fun!

My fiance and I were just in San Diego for a short vacay last weekend and had an amazing time. We walked along the beach and went for a hike at Torrey Pines State Park in La Jolla, in case you’re looking for more things to do. The San Diego zoo was also amazing. They have pandas and a baby kolas. Hope you have fun!

ahhh you’re in San Diego!! I finally moved back home after being away. San Diego is the best and the weather is perfect right now. One little suggestion- Maybe take a few workouts outside and go for a run at the beach? :) It’s not everyday you can run next to the Ocean. Mission beach/Pacific Beach is a fun place, :)
