The best St. Patrick’s Day cocktail

Or “for life” cocktail, really.

Lucky irish girl

There’s not too much “Irish” about me. There’s a little bit on my great-grandmother’s side, the fact that I used to Irish Step dance (I had a mean slip jig), and I married an Irish man. He introduced me to wonderful things about his family’s culture -they actually own a bar in Ireland that we’d love to visit someday!- including this cocktail. It has a rich sweetness to it, a little goes a long way as it’s very rich, and is absolutely perfect for the upcoming holiday. We’ve had some pretty memorable St. Patrick’s Days, like when we visited Savannah and the power went out in the entire city. (I was convinced it was aliens or an attack of some sort.) But with all of the ones we’ve spent together, my favorite was the night we stayed home in Valdosta, watched movies and drank copious amounts of this cocktail.

My version with almond milk, the Pilot’s with heavy cream or regular milk:

Ingredients 1 of 1

[One of these things is not like the others]

As you guys know, I tend to stay away from dairy for health/skin reasons. I don’t stay away from Bailey’s for any reason ;)

Here’s the recipe for my favorite cocktail, which I’ve dubbed “The Lucky Irish Girl.” Even though I’m mostly Irish by association, St. Patty’s is one of my favorite holidays. Hope you enjoy this drink as much as we do!

Drink 1 of 1 4

Lucky Irish Girl Cocktail

(feel free to make up something else if you’re sharing it with dudes)

Makes one

-1 oz Baileys

-1/2 oz Kahlua

-1/2 oz Frangelico

-2 oz milk of choice

1. Mix all ingredients in a cocktail shaker with a little ice.

Baileys 1 of 1

2. Shake it up!

Shake 1 of 1

3. Strain, pour, and bottoms up.

Pour 1 of 1

*To make the drink even more festive, feel free to add in some green food coloring! I actually blended it up with a little spinach for color, which sadly, does not magically turn it into a healthy elixir (bonus vitamins! haha). It does make it pretty, though :)

Cheers!

Drink 1 of 1

What is your all-time favorite cocktail or mocktail? This one is my all-time fave, and I also love some good sangria and these saketinis.

Any past St. Patrick’s Day adventures to share?

I pretty much stay away from dairy for the same skin reasons (plus I’m intolerant), but there’s always some exceptions you have to make;) Like St. Patty’s. I’m generally not a fan of baileys, I’m more of a hard liquor lover. I have to say I love the green color of the cocktail though! Maybe I’ll make a cocktail with green juice and vodka instead:)

This cocktail looks yummy! I love a bailey’s latte but St. Patty’s is really the only time I make one. We like to make a leprechaun trap with my 5-year old son. I turn the milk and toilet water green and hide little treats throughout the house (chocolate gold coins). This is also the one time a year when we buy sugary cereal, lucky charms so that is a treat for him.

This is a fun post. :) I love St. Patty’s day! I don’t love beer at all, but I do like it on St. Patty’s if it’s green and all that. Haha. These cocktails look way better though! What town is the bar the Pilot’s family owns in? That’s awesome! Ireland is my favorite place I’ve ever visited.

I love just baileys and kahlua over ice, so I definitely think I would love this with the frangelico. I nice, rich drink to sip and savor.

Interesting combo! I’m not too much of a fan of st. patrick’s day because I’m not a beer drinker. Now, cinco de mayo is more my holiday since I would rather have a margarita.

I love this idea! I’m super Irish and grew up Irish Dancing in parades. St. Patrick’s Day is one of my favorite holidays. I’m giving this recipe to my fiance in hopes he’ll make it for us! haha

Looks very delicious and I wouldn’t mind trying a few of these this St. Paddy’s Day. I’m part Irish (on my mother’s side), but sadly, I don’t really have any crazy holiday stories.

YUMMMMMM! I didn’t get to partake in the adult festivities last year as I was 7 months preggo, but THIS looks SO. GOOD. In addition to making it green, I might use mint Baileys to make it a little Thin Mint-ish.

We celebrate BIG time over here. My FIL’s parents were fresh off the boat.

This sounds so good! I normally stick to wine or whiskey/bourbon, neat, but occasionally something a little fancier is called for. I love a good old-fashioned or anything with ginger in it : )

Like the idea of adding the spinach. Are you sure it cannot be classed as one of your 5 a day!

I also love a good sangria. Or a lychee martini, a cosmopolitan or a daiquiri is always nice too and I can delude myself into thinking its healthier with all the fruit.

St. Patrick’s Day is the day I love most . . . I’m Irish thru and thru. I usually stick to beer with an occasional shot now and then (either a Jameson Irish Whiskey or a shot called an “irish car bomb”) – I will be drinking Guinness so even if you were to add green food coloring – it would still just be really dark! Will be having a more authentic meal of boiling bacon, colcannon (mashed potatoes with cabbage and bacon or ham mixed in) and soda bread. It really is my favorite day. Enjoy the holiday with your Irish ball and chain. Slainte! (Irish toast – to health)

That is awesome that you gave up dairy! I took myself, hubby and teen boys of of it last year. I am so glad that as a young Mom when they were babies, I did not give them dairy. (think it was that Mothers instinct) After reading the mucusless diet, studying Dr. Morse it changed my whole view on dairy and it is NOT, IMO meant for humans and causes so much acidosis in the body :=) I am so blessed that my gp doc agrees with me!
