4/30: Things of lately

Potty seat 1 of 1

-I picked up a potty seat for Oliv. It’s not because I want to push the whole the potty training thing (let’s be real, it doesn’t sound like a party), but sometimes she’ll tell me WHILE she’s going, and she speaks so well. I figured at the rate we’re heading, she’ll be saying, “Mama, I need to use to restroom, please” and I won’t be prepared 😉 So I bought this potty seat at Buy Buy Baby and put it in the downstairs guest bathroom with her stepping stool in case she wants to use it. Yesterday, I introduced her to it, making sure to compliment how shiny and cool it is, and emphasizing the fact that it’s just for her. I’m leaving it at that… we’ll see what happens. The best part was when Tom came home from work and asked me if there was a way to remove it. He thought it was a permanent bathroom fixture and that we’d all have to figure out how to take care of business with significantly awkward efforts.

-Many days feel like we do so much, but at the same time, we don’t do anything. We run a couple of errands, have at least one class or play date planned, and the rest of the day, we hang out. We play outside, blow bubbles, draw with chalk, go up and down the slide in our yard, talk Bell for walks, read books, eat and watch some Elmo or Super Why together. All in all, it just feels like we’re hanging out and having fun together. Yesterday, we were walking through Trader Joe’s sharing an enormous apple, her in the Ergo while I pushed the cart, and I kept thinking to myself, “This is the good stuff.” She would put the apple in my mouth and start cracking up each time I took a bite.

-Even though so many other things have changed, the bedroom routine is exactly the same. We put on her bedtime CD (we switched from Jewel to Disney lullabies to change things up), read a bedtime story, turn on the Twilight Turtle thing and say goodnight. My mom got Liv a Twilight Turtle for Christmas -which is awesome because the stars turn off after 45 minutes- but Liv’s is a ladybug. I didn’t notice this until a few weeks ago, since we’d been calling it turtle this entire time. I didn’t think it was a big deal until we were watching something on TV and a ladybug scurried across the screen. “Turtle!!!” Um… so according to Livi, turtles are turtles and ladybugs are… turtles. Trying to fix it.

-We should probably get her hair cut, but I’ve been fighting it. It’s not that I think “Omggggg little girls have to have long hair!” (I would actually love to see it all one length at her chin- so cute), but it’s been with her since she’s been born. Some pieces are longer than others, wispier, thinner, but the ends have been there since she came into the world. It makes me sad to cut them off.

-This morning, she was asking for “spicy and chips” aka chips and salsa when she saw the salsa on my egg. “Please.” I gave her a bite, and she loved it.

I’m pretty sure we all wish breakfast served chips and salsa like Poco & Mom’s (an awesome New Mexico-style restaurant here in Tucson) 🙂

DIY Bath Bombs

Two things officially turned me into a bath person: our tub, which is much larger than any we’ve had in the past and LUSH bath bombs. It’s a huge deal, as I’ve always preferred showers, but there’s something seriously awesome about sitting in a super hot bathtub with your hair in a messy bun, a […]

Mother’s Day gift ideas

Mother’s Day is a little less than two weeks away, and once again, I’m so excited to be able to spend it with the amazing women in my family. Every day I wake up so happy to be in Tucson; we’re making up for holidays and fun memories since we were stationed away for a […]

Coconut fail

Coconut flour and I have never really been friends. Insanity is doing the same thing and expecting different results, and for some insane reason I keep trying to act like coconut flour can easily replace other flours. It doesn’t work. At all. I’m on a major tortilla kick -well, my whole life is a major […]

April 28: Meals and Fitness for the Week

Hi friends, how’s your weekend been? Hope it’s been an amazing one for you, too — I’ll post some pics of our fun adventures later today. Workout-wise, get ready for all new EVERYTHING in just a few weeks! Summer Shape Up begins May 27th, and I can’t wait to kick up my training plan with […]

4/26: Friday Faves

Hi friends. I LOVED reading your comments on my book post! Thank you for refreshing my reading list 🙂 I guess I need to finish A Thousand Splendid Suns- it’s already on the Kindle waiting. I’ll be referring to your suggestions when I finish it, too. Here are a few faves from the week: -An […]

5 All-time Fave Books

This post has nothing to do with food or fitness, but it’s fun to step out of the box every now and again 😉 I have this weird book thing going on lately. I’ll start a book, finish half of it, and be done. It’s been a little while since I’ve finished an entire book, […]

Kombucha update + NEW Ab burner

I’m not going to say I wasn’t a little freaked out to taste the kombucha.  The scoby looked totally healthy with no signs of mold, but there were definitely more strands of bacteria floating around in there. It’s pretty amazing how much the liquid changes in a course of 10 days, and the new baby […]

Quick toddler snacks + packaged finds

I still love making food for Liv, especially since (for now) the little lady has a huge appetite and will try anything. It’s always fun to share different things with her and see what she loves and doesn’t enjoy. As much as I like making her food, I also use some pre-made and packaged food […]

Focus On: The Raw Food Diet

Raw food is sexy. [photo source] There’s really no other way to put it. Even though I’ve strayed from my mostly-raw ways of the past, it is a lifestyle that I enjoy and (for the most part) support. In this post, you’ll find more details about a high-raw life and why it didn’t really work […]

PRO meals: Smoothie Packs

As I mentioned in my meal planning post, I’ve been feeling a little lackluster with dinners lately. I throw something quick in the slow cooker, or we’ll have the same things over and over again (especially since the Pilot was away). I will say that there was one lovely chicken pasta and wine night at […]
