Date night and doc

I think the post title pretty much says it all.

Marg

(jalapeño prickly pear margarita!)

How’s your week going so far?

The other night, the Pilot and I had an amazing date night at the Flying V at Loew’s Ventana. We go to Sunday brunch at the resort fairly often -it’s one of our all-time favorite breakfast spots- but had never been to the Flying V. We were blown.away.

We started off with the sea bass tacos, which were probably the best tacos I’ve had. Ever. I’ve had a lot (looooooot) of Mexican food in my life and whelp. They rocked my world.

The Pilot had buffalo chili along with the tacos -and jokes were made about Oregon Trail– and then our entrees arrived. I chose the ahi, which was perfectly seared and served with a delicious quinoa pilaf, and the Pilot got the strip steak. Needless to say, it was an incredible meal. I can’t wait to go back! Quite a few new restaurants have popped up downtown, too, which I think we’ll be checking out sooner than later. I’m determined to play tourist in Tucson before we move, making sure to try out all of the new and new-to-us spots before heading to San Diego.

On a not-so-fun note, I finally went to the doctor for my falling injuries yesterday. When I called the military medical group to tell them my knee was still bothering me 4 weeks later, they couldn’t get me in for an appointment, so they sent me to urgent care.

Knee

(doc drew that sketch of the knee)

They took X-rays -my joints looked good- but will need an MRI to see exactly what’s going on. I have to go back to base, get a referral for an MRI, get the MRI, and then to a sports orthopedic doctor. The urgent care doc thinks I may have a torn meniscus, so fingers crossed until we find out :/

Since this post is all over the place already, here’s a picture of my breakfast bomb from yesterday.

Breakfast bomb 1 of 1

The ingredients:

-Goat’s milk Greek yogurt

-a pouch of Mama Chia strawberry banana

-Egg White protein powder

-hemp seeds

30g of protein! Yeahhhhh.

Off to work for this girl and so ready for a fun girls’ night tonight.

Have a lovely morning <3

xoxo

Gina

hope it’s not a torn meniscus. good luck figuring it out; knees can be tricky. my knee is finally getting better one year later =/

  3. Jenn on November 7, 2013 at 9:46 am

Keep your chin up! I’ve had a torn ACL and torn meniscus and I am running marathons! Healing is possible with the right amount of time off, care and patience!

  4. Brittany on November 7, 2013 at 9:48 am

Ugh! Knee issues are a bear. I hope you hear good news after the MRI. :/

    • Fitnessista on November 7, 2013 at 9:56 am

      thank you, friend!

  5. Erin H on November 7, 2013 at 9:49 am

I really hope it’s not a torn meniscus! I tore mine in college, and it was the WORST pain I’ve even been through…I couldn’t even walk, let alone workout. I’m not sure if there are varying degrees of a tear (I assume there is); because you seem to be able to walk around, sort-of run, do squats, etc….so maybe it’s just not a bad tear. Here’s hoping it’s something else not as bad!!! Fingers crossed!!!

    The marg looks delicious!

    • Fitnessista on November 7, 2013 at 9:56 am

i hope it’s not it! if it is torn, it could just be a small tear or on the outside, which is why i’m able to do certain things without pain. fingers crossed. bah!
and yes, the marg was glooooooorious 🙂

Oh man that stinks! I hope you can get an appointment and feel better soon!

  7. Kate on November 7, 2013 at 9:56 am

    Hope your knee heals quickly!

  8. Sara @ LovingOnTheRun on November 7, 2013 at 10:01 am

Sounds like you all had a great date night!

Hope you get some news on your knee soon! I am injured right now with a femoral stress fracture so I know how hard it can be! You will get back to it! Just be patient 🙂 I know that is easier said than done, because I have been having to remind myself that a lot lately!

  9. Carrie on November 7, 2013 at 10:04 am

Oh no! I have had surgery to repair my meniscus twice! The irritation you described certainly fits the bill! The good news is the surgery isn’t terrible, but I can’t imagine doing it as a Mama!!

Crossing my fingers for you, take it easy and relax! I love funky margs they are the best, I always try to order the craziest one that the restaurant offers, makes for a fun date night 🙂 Lots of love your way <3 C

What a great quote! I hope everything starts feeling better with your knee—injuries are no fun. On a good note, I’m glad you had a fun date night and that the tacos were deeeeelish haha. That’s something, right?

  12. Sara on November 7, 2013 at 10:41 am

That margarita looks soooo yummy! And the food!…I LOVE Mexican food
Sorry to hear about your knee prognosis but hopefully the MRI will show some good news. Have a great girls night!

  13. Courtney on November 7, 2013 at 10:49 am

Can you compare the taste goats milk Greek yogurt to regular Greek yogurt? I’m curious! I tried almond milk yogurt and nearly gagged. Major fail.

  14. Sana on November 7, 2013 at 10:53 am

I hope it’s not a torn meniscus! I tore mine in college and my knee has never been the same since. I love your blog and workouts but I can’t follow them because they are usually high impact and my knee can’t handle it. Hopefully you get good news from your MRI!!

  15. FitBritt@MyOwnBalance on November 7, 2013 at 10:54 am

Oh knee issues are the worst. I really hope that it is not too serious!

  16. Megan (The Lyons' Share) on November 7, 2013 at 11:01 am

Hey Gina! So sorry about your knee :(. We are literally leaving in 15 minutes to take my husband into surgery for his torn meniscus. It totally sucks, but in the grand scheme of things it’s a fairly easy surgery and recovery (we hope!), so there’s always room to look on the bright side. Crossing my fingers for an even better diagnosis for you!

  17. She Rocks Fitness on November 7, 2013 at 11:02 am

Beautiful breakfast and that margarita looks DELISH! Glad you went to the doctor and hopefully you will get a definite diagnosis so you can move forward and start the right healing process. Like everyone else, I hope it is nothing too serious. 🙂

  18. Jackie on November 7, 2013 at 11:18 am

I hope they have better results after the MRI for your knee!

  19. Beverly Aragon on November 7, 2013 at 11:35 am

Sending healing vibes your way, pretty lady!

  20. Lucie@FitSwissChick on November 7, 2013 at 11:36 am

Good luck with the knee!! Cross fingers for you.
I did play tourist as well when I lived in Berlin and was about to move away – was so fun and nice to discover everything!

  21. Captain Comptition on November 7, 2013 at 11:49 am

Dinner sounded great, doctor visit not so much. Good luck recovering no matter what they find on the MRI. I love the idea of playing tourist in your own city.

  22. Carrie on November 7, 2013 at 12:01 pm

I will be interested to know what the MRI is like. I have a triage appointment in a few weeks for a slipped disc and may have to have one. It looks a pretty tight fit in those MRI tubes! A friend of one said you gave to treat it as a challenge and not press the panic button. 🙂 Good luck.

  23. Jamie on November 7, 2013 at 12:19 pm

My lateral meniscus is currently torn – I did it almost exactly a year ago during CrossFit. After 8 weeks of rest it wasn’t better so I got an MRI and found out. THey said I’d have to have surgery to fix it… so I’ve held off. I can still CrossFit, but certain moves bug my knee more than others. but I’m not in PAIN and can deal with it. I just alwasy wrap it before working out. Hope yours isn’t torn! Good luck

  24. Lauren on November 7, 2013 at 12:54 pm

Along with everyone else, sure hope it’s nothing serious on your knee

But I have to give into my 13 year old self on the Dr’s illustration…;)

  25. Tracy on November 7, 2013 at 1:14 pm

I’d love to dive into that margarita 😉

Stay positive about your knee! Docs can be wrong!

  26. Julie @ Better Life with Burgers on November 7, 2013 at 1:20 pm

Yikes, good luck with your knee. I hope that process isn’t too stressful (I get so frustrated with needing to visit eight places to get referrals and orders before actually achieving anything) and that you get good news!

  27. Michelle @ A Healthy Mrs on November 7, 2013 at 1:38 pm

Glad to hear you finally went to the doctor! Hope they fix you up soon!

  28. Anna @ Fitness à la Anna on November 7, 2013 at 2:14 pm

Good for you for going to the doctor – I am totally the same way when I get injured, I leave it until the last possible moment…or until my friends and family force me to go 😉 Fingers crossed its nothing serious!!

  29. Alisha @ Alisha's Appetite on November 7, 2013 at 2:38 pm

I just posted that exact quote/picture the other day 🙂 🙂 Great minds think alike? Also fingers crossed it’s nothing serious with your knee!!

  31. Brittany on November 7, 2013 at 4:00 pm

Soli Beat was at my house when I got back from errands. Did the warm up and half of the first dance but I couldn’t do a ton of jumping around as my father was sleeping right below me and I didn’t want to wake him. But I am SO gonna try to do the whole thing tomorrow when he is awake. I am so excited! I absolutely LOVED the parts I did!

  32. Annette @ FitnessPerks on November 7, 2013 at 4:03 pm

Awwww man, I hope it’s not too serious!

  36. Steph on November 7, 2013 at 6:56 pm

Sure hope everything is goes as smoothly as it can with the knee. I had surgery for a torn ACL last year and it was no fun, but now I’m back at it. And sea bass tacos…oh yeah.
