NYC adventures part 1

I’m here in NYC for a Reebok launch party with some blog friends! I’ll be sure to share the details and lots of pics from the official event, which is tomorrow morning <3 Also coming up: a new Fashion post + a Reader’s Request featuring a current health trend.

New York, you never lose your magic, do you??

It’s been a few years since I’ve been here, but it never gets less exciting, even after a long and blahhhh day of travel. I left for the airport at 4:40am, still almost missed my flight (the usual nonexistent Tucson security line was bumpin’– I ran to the gate with my shoes still off) and had to sprint through the Dallas airport to make my connection.

Needless to say, I was pretty excited when I landed at JFK, hopped into a cab, and was quickly at the first stop: the Reebok Fit Hub on 5th Ave in Manhattan. I met Julie and Heather there, along with Michelle and Darren (both powerhouse fitness instructors) who kindly showed us around.

The Fit Hub is a retail store with Reebok goodies, which is awesome because the products are harder to find in stores and usually have to be ordered online. It was fun to try things on and check out the gorgeous spring colors. Underneath the store, they have a full CrossFit box.

We were tempted to join in the WOD fun… but instead, we lived vicariously and snapped a couple of quick pictures 😉

Our workout was waiting for us at the Exhale Spa, where we were treated to a Core Fusion barre class. I’m a huge fan of the Exhale DVDs (and reviewed a couple on the blog during my Valdosta days), and was really excited to take a class in a studio.

Unnamed

The instructor Kat was phenomenal and lead us through a killer barre workout with the usual suspects: isometric holds, pulsing movements, hip tucks and full range of motion exercises to fully fatigue every muscle. Needless to say, I’m going to be a liiiiittle sore tomorrow.

In addition to the Core Fusion classes, Exhale offers yoga, a full spa with massage, skincare and acupuncture services.

They also have a very cute boutique:

(still holding strong with my “no clothes shopping for 40 days”)

After our workout, we checked into the hotel and grabbed some food at The Todd English Food Hall. We shared the lobster guacamole (which was extremely fresh and lovely),

Kale salad

and for my meal, I rolled with the kale salad + chicken. The kale salad had yams, dried cranberries, pear, pumpkin seeds and fontina cheese in a light vinaigrette.

Tomorrow morning, we’re off to the Skyscape launch and then going to spend the rest of the afternoon exploring!

See ya soon <3

xoxo

All-time favorite city to visit?

Are there any classes or fitness events in your city that are totally unique? I love hearing about different studios and classes.

Someday I’ll make it to the big apple!!! Pretty envious of your trip, and can empathize with your “no shopping” rule…would be tough to do!

My favourite cities to visit have been San Fran and Sydney! On my list are Singapore, London, and NYC 🙂

Looking forward to seeing your Reebok recap. Loving their new line of runners. A lot of the Les Mills instructors here in Aus are wearing them as part of the new Reebok->LM partnership, and they are so lightweight and fantastic!!!

    EnjoY!

I think my favorite city to visit would have to be Chicago! Love it so much!

    Have a blast!

That kale salad sounds divine. Enjoy the wonderfully exciting Big Apple!

I’m so ready for a NY trip. Last time we took our then 2-year-old and I was 28 weeks pregnant. I’d live to go with just the hubby.

Have a great time! I’m looking forward to all your posts!

At the risk of sounding like a snob, I’d have to say that Paris is my all time favorite city to visit. I’m extremely lucky to have been there twice in a span of 13 years. Being from Boston, I’m naturally inclined to not like NYC, but I do enjoy going from time to time. It’s just a bit too much for me; I like being able to see the sky instead of skyscrapers. When it comes to other East Coast cities, I’m more of a fan of DC. Oh, and Quebec city is always a nice getaway for a long weekend to make you feel like you’re in an old city in France!

That dinner looks delicious! Would love to try to recreate! Thanks for sharing!

NYC is definitely my favorite city — my husband & I are headed there next week! So excited! 🙂

hmmm my default response would be paris having been there several times in the last few years (i cannot get enough pierre herme macarons). BUUUUUT, after just getting home from tokyo 2 weeks ago, i can now safely say that they have the most incredible shopping in the entire world! i have never seen so many luxury stores and giant department stores with gourmet grocer basements! any designer you can think of has multiple stores and all of my faves (suno, kenzo, opening ceremony etc). i mean there’s even a pop up louis vuitton (legit one) in the train station?!

So glad you’re enjoying my city! I love taking yoga classes in the spacious Exhale studios. Let me know if you need any suggestions for workouts/sights to see.

maybe I’m biased after living here for 6 years, but NYC is kind of amazing 🙂
My favorite place to visit is Los Angeles… however the traffic there drives me crazy

What a perfect trip! The hotel looks stunning, and all the fitness stuff sounds like a blast. Not to mention you’re with Julie and Heather – love you three girls!

I love NYC and can’t wait to go back for a visit. I feel like you owe it to yourself to run through Central Park if you’ve never done so. That’s something you cannot do anywhere else 🙂 One of my favorite places to visit (and run) is Chicago. No other city like it and I’m lucky enough to live two hours away.

  12. Cassie Vaughn on March 12, 2014 at 10:53 am

    I love Charleston!

  13. Jackie on March 12, 2014 at 11:04 am

Omg I love NYC! Have a blast!

  14. Stephanie on March 12, 2014 at 11:20 am

Are you ok? Saw there was a building collapse/explosion in NYC.

  15. joelle (on a pink typewriter) on March 12, 2014 at 11:46 am

Ah, I love NYC!! Hope you’re having a wonderful time! I definitely miss living there sometimes. 🙂

  16. Kelly on March 12, 2014 at 12:15 pm

So funny! I had the same (similar) kale salad and chicken for lunch yesterday! I use lemon oil oil for the vinigarette and it is killer! I’m sure your was much tastier if made by Todd English. 🙂

  17. Iris R. on March 12, 2014 at 12:18 pm

Looks like so much fun! I had always thought I would hate NYC (not much of a city girl), but I went at the end of the summer for a bachelorette party and had the best time. I’m excited to go back some time on my own terms – more of a Brooklyn foodie tour and less of a girly fantasy weekend 🙂

I also tried some barre classes at Pure Barre a while ago with a LivingSocial deal. It was too expensive to keep going but my new gym has some barre classes I want to try.

Favorite cities to visit have been Seattle and Portland.

Looks like you are having a blast. Lobster guacamole??? Sounds like heaven! That kale salad looks delish!

  19. Megan @ The Skinny-Life on March 12, 2014 at 12:48 pm

L.A. is my favorite close city to visit. I also adore Mexico beaches in Rocky Point. I visited NYC last year for the first time and loved it! So much to see and do. I want to go back when it’s warmer of course. Funny about Tucson airport. That’s one thing I miss about Tucson….getting through security is easier than Phoenix.

  20. Tracy on March 12, 2014 at 12:51 pm

Look forward to the hear the details of the event. Those always sound like so much fun!

My favorite city has to be NYC closely followed by San francisco. I love the ethnic diversity in both.

    Have a great time!

  21. Julie on March 12, 2014 at 1:15 pm

    LOVE San Fran!

  22. Rhiannon @ Bound to be a Buckeye on March 12, 2014 at 1:32 pm

You’re a stroooong woman to not shop there!! It looks like your trip is off to the perfect start 🙂

My favorite city to visit has been Ft. Lauderdale. It was so beautiful and had some of the cleanest beaches that I’ve been to. It also had a shop that I could get superman ice cream at. That’s one of my favorite childhood treats, haha.

  23. Cassie on March 12, 2014 at 1:59 pm

If you have time, you should check out Soul Cycle! I’ve heard amazing things about it and Kelly Ripa loves it 😀

  24. Jacquelyn @justjacq on March 12, 2014 at 3:41 pm

I live near NYC and man did you get some nice days to be here! Our weather has been so crappy lately. If you’re still here Thursday I hope you’re ready for some 20 degrees!

So great meeting you ladies earlier today! Let me know if you need any suggestions while you’re in NYC!

I love a city with history, and Luxor was amazing (even if it isn’t so great to visit these days). Domestically, I LOVE DC.

London is my favorite city to visit!

    Hi Gina!

We are taking the kids to Disney soon and I’m wondering, would you recommend the skyscapes since we’ll be doing lots of walking?

Also you wouldn’t happen to know any good personal trainers in the NY/NJ area would ya? 🙂 Harder than I thought trying to find one!

    TIA

Washington, D.C. is hands-down my favorite city to visit! There are always so many free things to take advantage of. Everyone is very active, and you can visit so many farmer’s markets in the city.
