Friday Faves

Hi guys! Happy Friday <3 Sorry for disappearing yesterday. I was hit with a nasty virus and spent most of the day sleeping.

I finally moved from the bed to the couch during Liv’s nap time for some kombucha and magazine reading. Feeling much better today 🙂

Butter is back!! hahah. Great article, thanks for sharing. My husband and I are making a big move out of state in May and to be honest I think I’ve decided Tucson would be a better fit. I’ve never been, but it sounds like a great place. Not too big I am assuming? Get well soon!!

    • Fitnessista on April 4, 2014 at 5:53 pm

it’s big, but with a small town feel. of course i’m biased, but i love it so much here

My favorite Trader Joe’s prepackaged salad is the Shrimp Louie. Hope you feel better. There’s been something going around my group in San Francisco too. Not fun!

    • Fitnessista on April 4, 2014 at 5:52 pm

i love the shrimp louie, too!

My husband works on the f35 simulator (creating codes and such to make it do what it does. i think he’s genius 🙂 ). We are not allowed on site where he works. So he was at our local children’s science museum a couple of months back to let kids fly the simulator. Both of our boys loved it. It was a very rare opportunity to see what daddy is working on when he’s away from home.
    Have a great weekend! !

    • Fitnessista on April 4, 2014 at 5:52 pm

that is so cool! i’m hoping tom can get into the f35 when the a-10 is no longer around 🙂 livi had a blast flying it today, too!

That salad looks amazing!!! I was craving one just like that last night but had absolutely no ingredients in the house. Thankfully, today is grocery shopping day 😀

  6. Erin @ Girl Gone Veggie on April 4, 2014 at 12:44 pm

Happy Friday!! The weather is going to be in the 70s this weekend so Josh and I are looking to get in some couples runs. We just signed up for a 10k this summer so I really need to start training!

  7. Rhiannon @ Bound to be a Buckeye on April 4, 2014 at 12:57 pm

I’ve had sinus issues for a few days now. I hope they pass soon! LOVE the yoga shirt!!! I want a Buddha just like that for our landscape this year 😉

Hoping you might know of a dentist in the Tucson area (know you are military but thought I would ask)? Thanks for any recommendation.

I’m watching 2 of my boys race in track meets and meeting friends for dinner…other than that chilling! Should be a good weekend 🙂

Glad you’re feeling better. Stinks that you’re sick at this time (not that it’s ever a good time to be sick). Yes, I’m loving Food Should Taste Good chips! I was recently able to try some of their newer flavors and they’re so good (and all gluten-free for me!).
Hope she enjoys the simulator! Sounds fun!

  13. FitBritt@MyOwnBalance on April 4, 2014 at 2:03 pm

    Hope you feel better!

That NYC article is interesting! I don’t believe No. 11 at all- I think those musicians can just decide to play! I totally believe No. 16- The Puerto Rican day parade shuts down the city! I read No. 19 while eating lunch-gross! No. 28 is definitely true! I’ve seen No. 40 and it is way cool! So fun, I’m sharing this with friends.

    Have a great weekend!

thank you, hope you have a great weekend too <3

I had a plain kombucha at lunch today and it was so so tasty! Well, except when I sucked down a huge chunk of kombucha mushroom toward the end!

    • Fitnessista on April 4, 2014 at 5:49 pm

haha i never drink that part!

Re: “This just makes me so happy” — I knew that was what it was going to be before I even clicked on it — such a great video!

The first time I saw “The Lion King” musical, I was totally unprepared for how beautiful that opening number was going to be & how much it would affect me! And let’s be honest — I still get a bit teary watching that video 🙂

My favorite thing is that I’ve been teaching Pilates for a whole month now! 🙂 Feeling lots more confident in my teaching abilities.

Glad you are feeling better! We are all about the natural remedies these days–especially raw apple cider vinegar mixed with EmergenC.

Now I’m ready for my 3pm latte. 🙂

    • Fitnessista on April 4, 2014 at 6:30 pm

that is amazing! the first month is the most challenging, and you’ll just keep getting better now 🙂

      • priya on April 4, 2014 at 7:07 pm

That salad looks amazing! I’m all about salads this week… my favorite is my bbq shrimp & corn salad with salsa. So good! My weekend is uneventful because I have to work on Sat. 🙁 But I hope to have a great Sunday with my husband! Maybe lay out by the beach or catch a movie. Have a great one!

“Every night, I have a glass of wine after dinner. It’s like a high-five for making it through the day”

LOL you rock my world, Gina! this is hilarious! 🙂

    p.s. glad you’re feeling better

  28. Mila on April 5, 2014 at 8:49 am

Also wanted to comment on your inbox issue: have you tried setting up automatic filters in Gmail?
    (it takes like 5 seconds)

This way, you can “re-route” certain pieces of mail into their own folder (skips the inbox), and then you’re seeing those emails grouped together; you can batch read them later.

for example, I do this for a folder I call “Shopping and Coupons” and *all* shopping-related emails/offers go in there: gap, amazon.com, cole haan rather than “cloggin up” my inbox

other folder categories include: Chase, taxes (any relevant online receipts), Family (so it doesn’t get lost among all the other stuff!)

    • priya on April 5, 2014 at 9:31 am

      Can you reroute for yahoo?

      • Mila on April 6, 2014 at 6:10 am

Yes, you absolutely can forward just some messages to another account.

        Example (for Chase emails):

        1. Click on an email in your inbox you want to filter – open it.
        2. In the top right hand side, you have the Reply arrow, and then another “down” arrow (if you hover over it, you will see it’s labeled “More”), click on it.
        3. Select the third option: ‘Filter messages like these’
        4. Then you will see at the top, “Filter From [email address] ex: “notifications@chase.com”
        5. Delete “notifications” and leave just @chase.com (this will filter all emails with this ending)
        6. Click on “Filter messages like these” link and then select your options (I usually do SKIP INBOX/Archive it) and then assign a folder in Gmail, otherwise, here you can forward it to another email address.

There’s nothing like a ‘buch when you’re not feeling 100%:-) Glad you’re feeling better! I haven’t used that shampoo and conditioner, but I have used the leave-in treatment and loved it. I enjoy these posts because I get ideas for new things to try–thanks!

  31. Kirsten | Fit + Fab on April 5, 2014 at 6:53 pm

That salad looks delicious! I don’t think I’ve had that one yet (must do it now). Trader Joe’s makes some of the best ready to eat salads ever.

  32. Karissa on April 5, 2014 at 9:08 pm

Glad you’re feeling better! Moving PLUS being sick = no bueno. 🙁

I got the green bottle version of that conditioner – LOVE it, been using it a couple times a week in conjunction with my special treatment shampoo.
