to market, world market

Hi friends! How was your weekend? Hope it was a relaxing one spent with those you love. We didn’t have many plans, and fully embraced a low-key weekend after a crazy week.

Tom and livi running

Dogs at menchies

(dogs love Menchie’s, too. We get them a tiny bit of plain vanilla.)

Some pics from the around the weekend:

Got the hair freshened up,

Fresh hair

(PS if you’re looking for someone in San Diego, I highly recommend Shaylin at Jol Salon. I get really nervous when someone besides my mom does my hair, but Shaylin is awesome. Also, they have these shampoo massage chairs that basically feel like you’ve been enveloped into one hundred hands. I can’t even explain it, but it makes me consider booking random shampoo appointments haha. They don’t know I have a blog or anything like that, but wanted to spread the love!)

and had a fun zoo date with my best girl + some friends.

Zoo day

Friday night was orangetheory -which felt way more challenging than it has in a while- and family dinner at Soup Plantation (aka Liv’s favorite restaurant).

Soup plantation

Ok, so I love it as much as Liv does. I’m pretty sure a salad bar in the house would be my dream. 😉 In Tucson, we would take Liv to Sweet Tomatoes if she didn’t have much of an appetite that day. It still works. In Tucson, the Sweet Tomatoes is great, but here, it’s an entirely different level. They have beer, wine, avocado, and you can add grilled protein to your salad if you’d like. We’re huge fans.

Saturday morning, I taught Zumba, then we took Liv to her first swimming lesson. Even though she’s in the ocean quite often, she’s very rarely swimming in a pool. I’m not a great swimmer -I can float on a raft and doggie paddle like a champion- so I would love for her to have that skill, so she can feel confident in the water. She did an amazing job at her first class.<3

Next was a member appreciation lunch at the gym,

yoga teacher training (we learned about the bandhas and using them to seal in energy with a powerful meditation),

and grilling at home.

Grilled dinner 1 of 1 3

(There is a burger hidden under the romaine leaves with goat cheese, ketchup and mustard.)

Sunday, we all slept in (GLORIOUS), enjoyed brunch, and then hit up the last day of Friends & Family sale at World Market.

The Pilot was slightly skeptical, but was quickly won over by the two-for-one Duplo bars.

Duplo bars

We got some stuff for the patio, an end table, and a few spring things for around the house.

World market

If I had full reign of the decorating, here’s an idea of what would happen….

I love this

Yesssss.

Lunch dates:

Tom and liv at obistro

Hope you had a wonderful weekend! Heading off to teach. <3

If you had to pick ONE favorite store, what would it be? For me, it’s a close tie between Home Goods and World Market…

Your hair looks awesome! I haven’t had mine cut in almost 6 months so maybe I should do something about that…

I haven’t really looked around in World Market for anything except food. I just always get drawn there and end up buying all kinds of random things.

  2. Amanda on May 4, 2015 at 7:29 am

We’ve been grilling like crazy- it tastes so good after such a long, cold winter!

  3. Holly @ EatGreatBEGreat on May 4, 2015 at 7:29 am

Sounds like a great weekend and your hair looks awesome, by the way!

  4. Erica {Erica@EricaDHouse.com} on May 4, 2015 at 7:31 am

Made a trip to the salon this weekend as well. Being 22 weeks pregnant had me feeling frumpy so I needed to freshen things up!

  5. Mary on May 4, 2015 at 7:33 am

oooo world market…. i don’t think i’ve ever been there, but that looks like a sweet spot to get home decor! My boyfriend would probably hate it haha but I may have to swoop through there…

  6. RachelG on May 4, 2015 at 7:34 am

This weekend we did a bunch of house stuff, including picking up a gold meditating doggie statue for our garden. It’s so zen! I was so glad that Scott didn’t fight me on it. 😉

What a great weekend! Your hair looks gorgeous and I love the puppy yogurt pic!

  8. Laura B @ FitMamaLove on May 4, 2015 at 8:00 am

Love your hair–it looks gorgeous! Are those blonde highlights I see? Gotta love Cost Plus for things around the house–I’ll definitely be hitting it up when we’re on to the decorating phase of our remodel!

    • Fitnessista on May 4, 2015 at 3:26 pm

yep! i got them done in early january and finally got them refreshed 🙂

I love that you signed Liv up for some swim lessons. I think it’s an important skill for everyone to learn, especially when you live by the beach.

I’ve been on a goat cheese kick the past week and it always makes me think of you <3

    • Fitnessista on May 4, 2015 at 3:26 pm

      amen to that!
love that so much. goat cheese.. so good

your hair looks incredible. i think i need to make a trip to SD for a haircut 😉

    • Fitnessista on May 4, 2015 at 3:25 pm

haha do it! we can have acai bowls too 🙂

  11. Megan @ Skinny Fitalicious on May 4, 2015 at 8:19 am

I would ZGallerie. I could buy every single thing and that store and find a place for it in my home. I do often find their things from last season at Home Goods which is awesome & cheaper!

  12. Morgan @ Managing Mommyhood on May 4, 2015 at 8:26 am

I’ve never been to a World Market, but I feel like I should keep my eyes open for one! I love Home Goods, but I don’t really shop in store too much. With a little boy, I really love me some Carter’s, but these days I’m pretty loyal to Amazon.. hahah

  13. Julie on May 4, 2015 at 8:50 am

Your hair looks great! So glad Liv is taking swim lessons; I think it’s such an important skill to have (for water safety/confidence). When I was little my dad used to ask our dog if he wanted to go for a ride (in the car), & he went nuts ‘cuz he knew that really meant a trip thru the drive-thru for a small ice cream cone. 😛

    • Fitnessista on May 4, 2015 at 3:25 pm

haha that is so cute! bella FREAKS whenever we ask her to come for a ride

  14. Carrie (This Fit Chick) on May 4, 2015 at 8:53 am

I love your hair! I want nice, bouncy curls like that! Looks like a fun and low key weekend indeed 🙂

    • Fitnessista on May 4, 2015 at 3:25 pm

thank you! hope you had a great weekend too 🙂

  15. Melissa on May 4, 2015 at 8:54 am

I think it would have to be TJ Maxx…I am a maxxinista for sure and have scored some AMAZING finds over the years. It is dangerous that there is one less than a mile from my house—I can literally “run to the store” (and have done that before!)

  16. Britt@MyOwnBalance on May 4, 2015 at 9:25 am

I really don’t think I can pick one favorite store! There are too many! 🙂

I’m planning on starting Cooper in swimming lessons when he is six months so he can get used to the water. I take him in the baby pool now but it would be good to actually have some lessons.

    • Fitnessista on May 4, 2015 at 3:24 pm

that’s a great idea. we waited a long time and i wish we would have done it sooner. it’s hard to research good spots though!

  17. Diana on May 4, 2015 at 9:37 am

Your hair looks fab! My fave stores are Ikea (for the food & the model setups) and the Container Store!

    • Fitnessista on May 4, 2015 at 3:23 pm

ahhhhh i love ikea! still haven’t been to the container store

  18. Crystal on May 4, 2015 at 10:20 am

My favorite store is the liquor store.

Just kidding. I love stores that have kitchen things like Williams Sonoma and Sur La Table. So expensive but I have to have it all!

    Pretty hair Gina!

    • Fitnessista on May 4, 2015 at 3:23 pm

      touche haha.

  19. Melissa on May 4, 2015 at 10:47 am

You r so pretty and your hair looks gorgeous!!! R those shuttle blonde highlights? Beautiful family pics, thanks for sharing! I love world market, I just want to tell the sales associate- ring me up for one of everything in here!” Lol

    • Fitnessista on May 4, 2015 at 3:23 pm

thank you so much lovely! they’re balyage highlights and lighter on the bottom than the top
and SAME. i love everything in there!

  20. Ashley @ A Lady Goes West on May 4, 2015 at 1:11 pm

Hi Gina! I love much of the stuff in World Market, but my hubby isn’t a fan. We have ordered some side tables from there before. I like Home Goods and Pier One, but if price was no object? Z Gallerie ALL the WAY! And as far as your lovely low-key weekend, nice job! Mine was good too! Orangetheory teaching and a country concert. Oh and even though I was born and raised in Florida, I’m really not a good swimmer hahah. Happy Monday!

    • Fitnessista on May 4, 2015 at 3:22 pm

i was so bummed when z gallerie closed in tucson! i used to go all the time. hope you had a great weekend!
what do you think about teaching orangetheory? i’ve considered it, but since it’s one of my favorite workouts, i’m not sure if i want to steal the joy from it by always thinking about timing, coaching, etc. i’m sure you can relate, but once you teach a class, it becomes very technical and even when you attend, you’re paying attention to the instructor and behind-the-scenes stuff

      • Ashley @ A Lady Goes West on May 4, 2015 at 3:33 pm

Hi Gina! I plan to write a post in-detail about my thoughts on Orangetheory soon, but I’ll tell you that it’s great that I do not have to DO the workout, so I can focus on helping others more. I enjoy the time I can spend correcting form on the floor and rower, because that’s not possible when teaching Les Mills classes. I’ve learned that the OTF corporation is a well-oiled machine, and there are a lot of resources at my fingertips! I can definitely tell you more soon! It’s still pretty new, but overall, LOVING it! 🙂

        • Fitnessista on May 4, 2015 at 4:19 pm

yeah, i love teaching classes like that! it’s nice to be able to focus on motivating and coaching instead of having to do the entire thing. i was just wondering if you think it took any of the magic away from TAKING the class for you, or do you think you enjoy it even more now?

          • Ashley @ A Lady Goes West on May 4, 2015 at 4:25 pm

Nope – it’s not gone! I still push myself hard during the class and get in the zone. It’s funny how I can switch off the instructor part sometimes. So, to answer your question finally, yes, the JOY is still there! 🙂

  21. Erika S. on May 4, 2015 at 2:24 pm

I love World Market. I saw they extended their F&F sale until today which is awesome! I’m with you on Home Goods…it’s like my other version of Target…they have a black hole. I love it but my wallet hates me!

Those salads look awesome…my eyes zoomed in on those jalapeños…yummzzz!

    • Fitnessista on May 4, 2015 at 3:21 pm

yes, i saw that too! i’m trying to stay away from the website haha.

  22. Kara on May 4, 2015 at 5:07 pm

Your hair! Gorgeous! Looks like you have extensions. It’s grown so much!

  23. Heather@hungryforbalance on May 4, 2015 at 5:54 pm

World Market is hands down, one of my favorite places ever! After Starbucks 😉

  24. Liz @ I Heart Vegetables on May 4, 2015 at 7:13 pm

I went to World Market this weekend, too! I snagged some perfect accent pillows!

  25. Hilary on May 4, 2015 at 7:51 pm

I had to laugh at your salad topping choices in that pic – I love hard boiled eggs & black olives on my salad and I feel like it is such an odd combo to most people (add beets & sunflower seeds, and I’m a happy girl). I went to Sweet Tomatoes for the very first time a few weeks ago, while on vacay in Florida. I wish we had them in Michigan!

TJ Maxx is my all-time favorite store. Some of them are connected to a Home Goods, and that is the ultimate combo!

  26. Elle on May 4, 2015 at 7:55 pm

Target wins my favorite store, hands down!

  27. Cassie T on May 5, 2015 at 3:54 am

Your family is so adorable!! Liv is growing into such a pretty young lady!

One favourite store is definitely Target! I knew I loved it before but didn’t realise how essential it is until I moved to Europe and don’t have one! What do you mean I can’t buy an $8 tank top in ever color when I just went in to buy toothpaste???

  28. queenoffitness on May 5, 2015 at 2:43 pm

well i don’t think i can beat the liquor store comment above (hilarious) but wegman’s is my favorite store. it’s an awesome grocery store chain in NY, PA and MD. i always say i want to live there. it consistently makes the list of fortune 500 companies each year. sadly, the closest one to me is 90 mins away but when i’m in the neighborhood i drop in and get my fill of products i love and want to try.
