Hi friends! Happy Friday! Hope you have a fun and relaxing weekend ahead of you. This morning, the Pilot and Liv are celebrating Father’s Day at an event for her school and then we’re off to a party.

In pure Friday fashion, here are some things I’m loving from the week and around the web. I always love to hear what you’re enjoying, too, so please join in the fun and shout it out in the comments section!

#1 by far has been your enthusiastic SSU check-ins! I’m so so happy you’re enjoying the workouts and meal ideas so far. Our Facebook group is going strong, and I especially enjoy seeing all of your beautiful sweaty workout faces. 🙂 You are doing an amazing job so far! Keep up the great work. I’s never to late to join in the fun; all the info is here! (Newsletter friends: you’ll get all of your week 2 schedules and links in your inbox today.)

Ssu2015 week 1 checkins

Our GoPro! Since my DSLR is a little more…fragile… (I try to be super careful with it following the death of my old one), there’s something magical about a camera you can take to the beach with you, swim with it, and attach to your paddleboard. I went for a run in Hawaii with it strapped to my chest like the goober tourist that I am. We filmed some other videos to share, too, so I’ll be uploading them soon. I totally want to get the dog harness for it and get some video from Bella’s point of view. 😉

How to let your spirit (not your ego) be your guide.

What your iPad is doing to your kid is kind of shocking.

I really want to try this, but am afraid of the result looking like this:

5k music for running a 9-minute mile.

Watch real guys find out they’ll be dads. Bring on all the tears. (Also, any last-minute Father’s Day ideas?! Slacker here is spending the afternoon brainstorming and getting things ready.)

Someone went and photoshopped giant cats into Jurassic Park because the internet.

Why it’s ok to sit this one out, mama.

Protein-packed vegetarian snacks

 Happy Friday!!

We started the weekend early with a concert last night! Darius Rucker was so much fun. That was my favorite thing this week too!

Two weeks after starting OrangeTheory, I think I’m officially in love! I am not good at pushing myself out of my comfort zone when I’m running outside/by myself, and OTF does just that – I’m so happy I decided to add 1 class/week onto my workouts to help me train for my upcoming triathlon & half marathon this fall. Thanks for the inspiration to give it a try!

    • Fitnessista on June 19, 2015 at 9:17 am

The Kids an d iPads article- wow! I had been wondering what kind of impact all the technology has on kids…. That looks like a fantastic breakfast, and those pineapples! Too good 😀

I’ve been looking for a smaller camera to take with me when I travel something that’s not as large and in charge like my DSLR. I’ll be checking out the GoPro. Thanks for mentioning it!

    • Fitnessista on June 19, 2015 at 9:15 am

yes, they’re so small and easy to tote around, especially when you’re on adventures

  10. Emma @ em-poweredwellness on June 19, 2015 at 9:13 am

I hear so many people raving about GoPros, I am so tempted to get one! Lugging my DSLR around on adventures is a pain–and as you said, not healthy for the fragile thing!

    • Fitnessista on June 19, 2015 at 9:15 am

it is SO nice to have a camera that’s a little rough and tumble!!

My husband and I attached his GoPro to his uncle’s black lab and it was hilarious. We were playing fetch with the dog off the side of a dock, so the dog would run down the dock, fly into the water after the ball and, of course, bring it back to us. We were all laughing pretty hard at the video, so it’s a worthy experiment in my opinion 🙂

I am 100% in agreement about technology being so readily accessible is a negative for growing children. Exposing them to screens at such an early age has been proven to have a negative impact on language development in children under 2 years.

Father’s Day idea: My 3 year old and I put together a homemade book for Daddy. I asked my son what some of his favorite things are that he does with his dad and I wrote down all of his ideas. Then I put together a “My Day With Daddy” book starting from waking up to going to bed with drawings or prints of a playground or eating a sandwich for lunch or whatever else. I let my kiddo help with it. Then we laminated it and put it in a 3 ring clear folder with a coverpage. On Sunday, when my husband tells our son to pick out a book to read, he’ll pick that one and surprise daddy with it!

I saw someone wearing a GoPro on a roller coaster the other week!!! I’m thinking it would be awesome for some acro yoga experts to do!!

Have a wonderful weekend and happy Father’s day (x2!) to the Pilot!!

  15. Chelsea @cute and clever on June 19, 2015 at 12:56 pm

I really don’t think you’ll have any issues contouring with the Anastasia kit, just be gentle with how much you use 🙂 If you are worried you’ll waste your money, just try the NYX version for much cheaper!

  16. Amanda on June 19, 2015 at 1:00 pm

Hahahah whenever I try to contour i inevitably just look like I smeared dirt on my face

I love the article about the iPad. We have found something interesting. When we have our toddler play with the iPad to do Thomas the Train apps or even watch children’s educational shows on the tv, he has night terrors that night. He loves them both so we were letting him watch 30 minutes in the morning. When we don’t have him watch them, he sleeps fine. So we don’t have him watch them anymore. Not sure if you ever experienced this with your little lady…
