day dates + what to scope?

Hi friends! How’s the morning going? Hope you’re having a great day! I am getting ATTACKED by allergies. If you see me around town, don’t mind the constant violent sneezing. (Ps if you have any preg-friendly allergy remedies, please send my way.)

The Pilot was off work yesterday morning, so we did something that we haven’t done in a while: went on a little day date. Just as I’m trying to spend as much one-on-one quality time with Liv, I’m also enjoying any extra time where it’s the Pilot and myself, since it’s going to be a party here in a few weeks. 🙂

Me and pilot at ob

We sat on the patio for coffee at Jungle Java,

Mancrush

(I got an iced almond milk chai)

Almondchai

walked along the beach,

Ocean beach

and ran a couple of errands. It was perfect.

Some more pics from the weekend:

We spent Labor Day relaxing in a cabana with some friends, which was the ideal way to spend a sunny afternoon. The kiddos swam their little hearts out, the food was amazing, and we had a shady, cool spot to retreat to during the day.

Drink:

Lacroix

(I also had a virgin Bloody Mary that was BOMB)

and a kale caesar salad with grilled salmon.

Kale caesar

(check out those anchovies!)

We also took Livi to her ballet class, only to find out that classes were canceled Labor Day weekend. Fail to me. We’ll consider it a practice run. 🙂

I wanted to ask you guys about Periscope! I’ve had it for a couple of months now.. and have done one, which was Beto talking at IDEA. I haven’t even done a *real* one yet! Are you on Periscope? Which accounts do you love to follow? I’ve been LOVING Chalene Johnson’s posts and also Heather Waxman’s meditation videos. Please let me know if there’s anything particular you’d like to see on there. I have a couple of ideas for fun impromptu workouts. 🙂

Hope you have a wonderful morning! <3

xoxo

Gina

I’m still trying to get the hang of Periscope. I’ve watched people’s broadcasts, but haven’t done one myself. I honestly don’t think people would watch me if I did do one. *shrugs*

I haven’t gotten on Periscope because I’m not really sure what to do with it. Plus it feels like another social media platform I’ll have to manage. Maybe one day though, it definitely seems to be all the rage right now. I’ll have to check it out. And after seeing your Labor Day eats I’m jones-ing for my lunch break now! Wish I had a kale and salmon Caesar waiting for me 🙂

one of the thing I’ve learned about blogging is that you can’t fight the new things, or you’ll be left behind. i fought pinterest FOREVER, and now it’s one of my top traffic referrals. it’s nice to play around with the different platforms and focus on the ones you love and are good at, though. social media is great at overwhelming us haha

I’ve been obsessed with Periscope lately! Love watching Amanda Tress’s videos. I’ve done a few but also struggle on finding something ‘worthwhile’ to scope about.

I’ve become obsessed with Periscope lately! I really like Hilary Rushford’s scoping. That said I just watched a guy playing the ukulele in Hawaii so I watch the randomest things. haha

I am a few Periscopes that I follow, Chalene Johnson, her husband Bret Johnson ( his cooking show is the best!!), Purely twins, Darren Natoni ( social media security), and Coach Jimmy.

I have never done one myself as I feel you need a topic or theme.

    • Fitnessista on September 9, 2015 at 2:28 pm

ohhh i was wondering how his cooking show was!

  8. Julia@yogawinehappiness.com on September 9, 2015 at 9:34 am

My allergies were terrible while I was pregnant ( I gave birth to a baby boy two weeks ago). My midwife recommended Allermax. http://www.amazon.com/Country-Life-Aller-Max-Vegetarian-100-Count/dp/B000Y8UGHU

I take two every evening and two more in the morning if it’s an extra rough allergy day. It has worked really well for me. I would highly recommend it.

    • Fitnessista on September 9, 2015 at 2:27 pm

this looks AMAZING. i’m going to email my midwife to see if it’s cool, then amazon prime-ing some asap

I feel you on the allergies! I worked in the natural health industry while I was pregnant and when I had allergies my wonderful friend gave me Wish Garden Herbals. They have formulas for pregnancy formulated by midwives. It worked so well for me, hope this can help!

Looks like you had a fabulous weekend!! Nothing better than spending it with good company and delicious food 🙂 The beautiful weather and views don’t hurt either!

I just got on Periscope for the first time this past weekend after Matt had been telling me about it. Turned out my friends and I were staying at the FSU player hotel and found ourselves in the middle of their breakfast/morning meetings/player + coach arrival and I was convinced to “scope it”—it was really fun 🙂 When I’m bored, I find myself logging in to see what others are up to or if there are any random topics that appeal at the moment.

That being said, while I find it easy to do a live broadcast, I find it kind of difficult to find broadcasts or “search” and follow users within the app itself. I wish they had a “key word” or “topic” search—I’ve read that it’s a common complaint and I’m sure it will continue to improve as they enhance the app. The geo search is nice, but not as useful necessarily.

    • Fitnessista on September 9, 2015 at 2:25 pm

i totally agree! also, sometimes i prefer text over video. it’s so much faster to read something than to watch a video

      • Melissa on September 9, 2015 at 2:41 pm

Yes, but I have to say my inner voyeur is pretty intrigued with this format. haha!

Have you tried a neti pot? I used it multiple times/day when I was prego and it was a lifesaver. There are concerns about bacteria getting into your brain, but if you use bottled, distilled water you’ll be fine (I always used tap water but would probably do bottled just to be safe).

    • Fitnessista on September 9, 2015 at 2:18 pm

i have.. but i made the mistake of inhaling once. i’m pretty sure i got water in my brain haha

  15. Carolyn on September 9, 2015 at 1:42 pm

I used a nasal spray, flonase I think, while pregnant and it was awesome. It’s worked better than anything else I’ve used for allergies. I hope you find something that helps!

    • Fitnessista on September 9, 2015 at 2:16 pm

good to know! i just started using this saline ocean mist in my nose and hoping it will help!

  16. Megan Little on September 9, 2015 at 2:27 pm

    Hi,
You should check out wish garden herbals. They have a blend for during pregnancy that is in a glycerite. Check it out here…. https://wishgardenherbs.com/herbal-remedies/Kick-It-Allergy-For-Pregnancy-47/?return
    Best of luck!

  17. Amanda on September 9, 2015 at 3:53 pm

This might be dumb, but… what exactly is periscope?

  18. Brittany on September 9, 2015 at 6:19 pm

Liv in her ballet outfit = my heart is melting. 🙂

I’m on Periscope as well. I’m following a bunch of peeps but haven’t done a scope myself yet. I think an impromptu workout or a recipe video would be fun!

  19. Adrienne on September 9, 2015 at 9:12 pm

I love periscope! Heather Waxman is also one of my faves 🙂 if you like meditations you should check out Grace Smith, she’s great too! I also really like Rebekah Borucki (BexLife) and Danny J.

    • Fitnessista on September 10, 2015 at 9:57 pm

awesome, i will definitely check those out!

  20. Nicole Paolone on September 9, 2015 at 11:11 pm

Okay, so I just did my first periscope (@Nicolettaful) of the rain today in Irvine (yes, Irvine, CA). It was pretty cool, though I’m not sure I’m doing it right! I’m following you so I’ll look out for your broadcasts 🙂

  21. Kimberly @ Healthy Strides on September 10, 2015 at 7:56 am

I used doTerra lavender oil for my allergies when I was pregnant. It’s an anti-inflammatory and helps with some of the pressure. I’d dab a LITTLE on my sinuses, at the base of my nose and inside the nostril. Boom! I could breathe in a minute. Peppermint oil is also great.

    • Fitnessista on September 10, 2015 at 9:55 pm

that’s great to hear! do you use a carrier oil with the doterra? or is it mixed in?

  22. Leyna on September 10, 2015 at 8:59 am

Young Living Lavender has worked miracles for my allergies. I was on allergy shots 3x a week for years, and prescription allergy meds. Nothing worked. And they say people in AZ don’t have allergies- HA! When mine are really flared up I ingest it by applying a drop into the inside of my cheeks. You really want to make sure your only using the purest essential oils since the other store bought brands are cut with filler chemicals to make them cheaper. If you have any other questions, shoot me an email 🙂 Hope you get some relief soon!!! I know how miserable it can be.

    • Fitnessista on September 10, 2015 at 9:54 pm

awesome- thank you for the tip! i may start experimenting more with oils once the beeb is here. i finally took a claritin today and can breathe, thank goodness

      • Leyna on September 12, 2015 at 8:43 am

        Hallelujah!!

  23. Hannah on September 17, 2015 at 7:46 am

What’s your scope name?! I can’t seem to find you 🙂

    • Hannah on September 17, 2015 at 7:46 am

Never mind, i took “The” out and found it 🙂
