the 6th love language

Hi from the long weekend. Thank you so much for the sweet birthday wishes for Bella! 🙂 We’re back in the swing of things today, and I’m excited that it’s going to be another short week. The Pilot was off for 4 glorious days, and we took turns sleeping in each day. I woke up at 9:30 yesterday and felt like a new person. I’m a huge fan of the Five Love Languages, but I feel like the author missed a major one: SLEEP. The gift of sleep is a surefire way to show someone you love them. Or at least me haha.

Some pics from the weekend:

Friday night, the Pilot went to the gym and I took the kiddos to Kid Ventures, so Liv could run around freely and P was very entertained by watching all of the kids. Afterwards, it was getting close to their bedtime, so we picked the quietest, darkest, most date-night-iest place… and got takeout.

Bo-beau kitchen, I missed you so.

We shared the goat cheese, beet and jalapeño flatbread,

for my entree, I rolled with the usual:

and dessert was flourless chocolate cake with toffee crumbles, brûléed bananas, strawberries, and homemade ice cream. No words.

Wine and dessert

(Oh, and wine. Always.)

More weekend pics:

Scenes from Saturday’s long walk,

barre o’clock,

and first time at lemonade.

I’ve been wanting to try it for a while, so I was excited when I was in the neighborhood and could finally give it a whirl. The philosophy behind lemonade is that it’s a “modern day cafeteria.” You pick how many portions you want of their fresh items -tons of salads, veggies, and protein mixes- and you can get sides to go along with it, like grilled sandwiches, soup, or grilled protein. The desserts alone are worth the trip… they had macarons the size of my face.

Giant maracon

It was like a hamburger! haha.

I will definitely be back. 😉

Last night, I taught a sweaty spin class, and we steamed up the entire room! I drew a terrible bike cartoon on the foggy mirrors before leaving, but it’s kind of hard to see.

Im an artist

(Probably in the top 10 of worst-quality photos here on the blog haha.)

Dinner was courtesy of the Pilot, who made Mongolian BBQ salmon and crispy lemon green beans.

He flies airplanes… and he cooks. 😉 #dreamboat

Tonight, I’m getting my hair colored (yasssssss) and getting things ready around the house before my MIL, SIL, niece and nephew arrive tomorrow. We can’t wait to see them!
Have a great night.

Also, thank you again to those of you who pre-ordered Post Baby Bod. I am blown away by your excitement. If you missed the preorder, no worries, the full plan will be available in March.

so excited for winter shape up!!!

  2. On more than one occasion I have declared eggs as my love language. 😉 That chocolate cake sounds like the best thing on the planet. I want it shipped to me stat!

  3. My love language is Acts of Service and my hubby’s is quality time. LOVED reading that book earlier this year — I hadn’t read it until I saw you post about it here, and it’s offered us some wonderful insight for our marriage!

  4. I liked the five love languages but I can’t remember what mine was. I need to go back and refresh!

  5. I’m pretty sure sleep would be mine too. I’m not a lot of fun to be around when I’m deprived. You really lucked out on that pilot. And why doesn’t Phoenix get cool restaurants like that? I feel like they’re all chains. Scottsdale has a lot of cute places like SD. I don’t even like eating out because nothing is healthy at the chains. I can get something healthy, but I have to practically re-arrange the menu to make it happen.

  6. That macaroon though! Before I kept reading, I saw that picture of it next to your salad and I was like, man, that is the world’s smallest salad! How was that satisfying?!? But nope. Just a big ‘roon.

  7. You and your pilot make such a good team! That must be especially important with two little ones. My love language is definitely receiving gifts. Give me chocolate or flowers and I’m all *heart eyes*

thank you! yes, it’s critical, especially right now. i feel like we just high five each other as we rotate through tasks throughout the day

  8. Vanessa B says:

How do I sign up for the winter shape up?

    • Fitnessista says:

if you want the workouts early, sign up for my newsletter! otherwise, everything will be on my blog and anne’s blog ( monday am

  9. Yay!! Winter Shape Up!! I was just complaining to my hubby how I can’t get to the gym with a 3 year old that is having problems sleeping through the night and a 3 month old who is still figuring out her sleep schedule. I can’t wait to do another of your shape up series! Will this one have videos?

    • Fitnessista says:

oh man. i definitely feel ya on that!
it will have videos in the rotation, but i’m still healing from the birth and didn’t feel totally comfortable making new ones. instead i’m focusing on lots of variety and new workouts throughout the week to keep things exciting 🙂

      • Sounds good, I can’t wait to get started! You’re wonderful for making the summer and winter shape up programs. I can’t imaging putting something like that together with all you have on your plate. It is greatly appreciated!

  10. Sleep is def a love language! Even when my other half visits, naps must happen

  11. w-w-w-WAIT. you mean WSU starts on Monday right?! I just want to make sure I’m not missing it!

  12. My heart dropped for a minute when I saw “WSU started on Monday”. I was googling trying to find the post! Lol! Assuming you meant starts on Monday?! Can’t WAIT!!

  13. Sleep definitely sounds like the 6th love language for parents. My love language is act of service, helping around the house or cooking together is always appreciated.

  14. Sleep is SO important! And i only realized it when i got a little older. I wish i could appreciate napping when i was younger. Now a nap is more like a treat! Speaking of …This macaron just made me drool all over…. i used to get them as a treat when i was living in |Strasbourg, France for a few months and i swear they are a slice of heaven. Not that your salad doesn’t look mouthwatering!!

  15. I cannot wait for WSU! I actually still use the videos from 2014(?)’s shape up all the time!

Also just a heads up because I’m not sure if you are aware or have any control over what ads show up – I came to and the first thing I see is a giant happy meal at the top of the page :/

    • Fitnessista says:

BOO FOR THAT. i’ll email my ad guy. i disabled all fast food restaurants but somehow that one must have snuck by

  16. I LOVE lemonade. I live in the midwest so when I went to LA last year I ate it more than once during my trip 😉

  17. I love this- sleep is everything!

  18. We loved that book, too! My love language is Words of Affirmation, although it was almost tied w/ Quality Time & Physical Touch close behind. I told my fiancé that I’m so easy – he has 3 to pick from (not sure he’d agree in that assessment…). 😛 His is Physical Touch (go figure). Chocolate wouldn’t be a bad love language either. 😉

  19. I don’t remember what my love language is , but sleep sounds like a real contender right now. I also have family coming into town this weekend! Hurray! And I’m very excited for WSU! 🙂

  20. So psyched that WSS starts Monday! My workout routine needs some new life!

  21. I ate at Lemonade on a layover at LAX and it was soo good. They had some Brussels sprout cold salad thing with figs, mmmmm. They actually have a cookbook, which I of course bought, but mine tasted nothing like it. Total bummer. Enjoy eating there while you can, this Michigan girl is jealous of your proximity!

    • Fitnessista says:

i had that one! it was SO GOOD. interesting that the cookbook recipe tasted nothing like that. i’ll look into it! and yes, i’ll go back for you 🙂

  22. What nail polish color are you wearing in that pic with the giant macaron? It’s amazing! I need it life.

  23. I’m totally “words of affirmation,” while my husband is “touch.” Opposites attract! 🙂

  24. Chelsea Anthony says:

Funny fact about my love languages: 7 years ago mine were Quality time & physical tough. I retook a quiz a few weeks ago and I found it to be interesting that after 7.5 years of marriage and a child, my love languages changed to words of affirmation & acts of service!
